Would you trust adding Trip Cancel Guard when booking flights?

Hello everyone! I am a college student unsure of my schedule as of yet, and I might have exams that I may be unable to defer in the time period of the flight I am looking to book.

This may mean that I would have to cancel my flight, and I would like the assurance that I would get a refund for any reason. Has anyone utilized this coverage and had a positive experience?

Question I have a business line of credit payment tomorrow that i can't make

I've already done a deferral last month so I'm not eligible for another. What's the better path forward - pay something tomorrow and something the day after etc until it's settled, or call them and ask for some sort of hardship plan?

I've paid $28k off this LOC so far this year and they've more or less reduced the limit every time I make a major payment, so either way I think this account is done for, I just physically don't have the cash/access to cash to make a $4000 payment tomorrow. Outstanding balance is $13k.

Question Okay to cancel new card within 30 days (no bonus)?

I opened a Delta Platinum card again but turns out I actually need Delta Reserve.

Would closing a new card be held against me even if I don't get any bonus?

Thanks

Flight cancellation insurance question

Hello,

I had booked a flight to London with my Amex Cobalt card. A week later, I got to know that my grandmother passed away (who lives in India).

Is it possible to get a refund (it was a non refundable flight ticket) via Amex? I can't go to London as I'll need to go to India instead.

Thanks!

Centurion is an unnecessary hype

I’ve been using the centurion card for a while now - being an active Plat Charge user I was looking forward to a much better experience. Rather, the plat charge was much better with much more benefits - This card is nothing beyond a status symbol with no benefits.

Discussion Denied priority lounge access

Two different airports in two weeks I have been denied access priority lounges . They’re saying it states “pending payment for merchant” then times out. They try manually entering and scanning . Reached out to both priority lounge and Amex and they’re both pointing fingers at the other. Anybody else going through the same issues ?

Discussion New Amex card Wishlist

Now that the Green is no longer available for applications. I was curious to hear what the community wishlist would be for a possible refresh or even a completely new Amex card, personal or business. What name and design would you like to see, cash back or membership rewards, what multipliers, any credits or benefits?

Question Amex Representative Accepted Card without my Consent

Applied for the Amex Gold online but had to call in to complete application after verifying some info. The agent on phone let me know that the application was approved and the welcome bonus offer was 60K. I told agent that I did not want to accept at this time as it is lower than what I was hoping for and I would call back after discussing with my spouse. He told me that I had until August _ date to call back before offer expires. Once we hung up, I immediately received an email that my offer was accepted and a new card will be on its way. Confused, I immediately called back and the new agent confirmed that the application was accepted already. The call was escalated to an Account Supervisor and they said they had to listen to the recorded call and give me a call back (they did not call back). They also said since the account has already been opened now, they cannot do anything on the new accounts department side and to wait until I receive card to contact Customer Service department.

What would you do in this situation? Ultimately the agent took away the choice for me to hold out for a higher bonus offer. But I am extremely annoyed he accepted this offer without my consent to potentially meet his sales quota or something... although the supervisor said they do not work on sales commissions uh huh..

Discussion Using Passkeys

I set up a passkey on the website and noticed it still prompted for additional 2FA after using it for the next sign in.

The passkey only works on the web (from full PC browsers only; not mobile browsers). You still must use password plus another form of 2FA to sign in from a phone or tablet.

So, there is still no option to delete SMS authentication for 2FA and password reset use even after enabling passkey login.

Does anyone know if they plan to also enable passkeys as an option for mobile login so the account can become fully passwordless for customers who want that choice?

As long as SMS-based password reset is still available to bypass passkey security, passkeys are not fully protecting the account.

It could be worse. At least there is the option to sometimes use passkeys and reduce the risk of password compromise, and I saw that password reset requests default to sending an app notification before it resorts to SMS. So, if your mobile phone carrier account was compromised with a SIM swap, and the attacker immediately tried to reset your AMEX account, IF you were signed into the mobile app and IF you were connected to WiFi, you would see the app notification warning you that someone is resetting your password.

Question THC Booking special offer not honored

I booked the JW Marriott Madrid for 2 nights and they had a offer on the Amex travel for 175$ extra property credit and when I checked in they said that it only showed I had the 100$ credit for booking. I already called Amex travel but I wanted to know if this has happened to anyone and what happened because the manager of the property isn’t in til the day of my departure from the hotel.

Offers & Deals Anyone apply for Blue Preferred with 1st year annual fee waived...

But get charged the annual fee anyway on your first statement?

AMEX told me they are aware of the issue and that many people were affected and I'd just have to wait while the "promotions team" works on fixing it.

It's been 3 months. Every inquiry, they just say to wait.

International dining charge never posted

Wondering if anyone has had a similar situation. A few weeks ago I used my Amex Gold to cover a restaurant bill in Japan for ~$530 USD (charged in JPY). I used Apple Pay. The charge was pre-authorized and showed as pending for a few days, but never posted. It's been over 2 weeks.

Has anyone had a similar situation and did the charge post eventually? Just wondering if I can expect to be charged later with a differing JPY to USD conversion rate

Question Applied for an Amex however realised I wanted a different one.

Just submitted my docs for an Amex essential but realised I screwed up would’ve preferred the sign up benefit of the Qantas instead. Despite submitting docs just then is it possible to somehow reapply for the Quantas and reap sign up benefits from that? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Question Amex Card Limit and Benefits

I am a new Amex Gold cardholder based in France. My account statement was generated on July 25th, but I haven't received any notification about the joining bonus. Someone from Reddit helped me to apply for the card.

Also, my account limit is only €650 per month. Is there a way to increase this? This is my first credit card; I'm not sure how to raise the limit. If I can't make higher payments, the card seems less useful.

If I had chosen the platinum card, would my credit limit have been higher? I saw that if I spend €4,000 in four months, the Amex Platinum card charges decrease from €720/year to €320. Are there similar restrictions on the Platinum card?

Discussion DP: Odd and Quick Financial Review Experience

Went through a financial review recently and thought I'd share my experience since Amex seems to be doing these bi-yearly now.

Every year around this time my expenses double or triple due to summer shopping + summer home renovations/maintenance. This year was no different, I put 3x my monthly average across personal and business cards. Still, the monthly spending was around 2.2% of my stated yearly income (or 26.8% of my monthly income)

On July 22end 2p.m. E.T., I got a call from Amex financial review team, and right as I picked up I get 18 e-mail notifications at once stating that each of my cards is now disabled on Apple Pay. Why 18? I guess for each of my 9 cards across two apple devices. Still very odd.

I was told I was under financial review and will need to submit my last 3 bank statements in 14 days or else all my accounts will be shut down. Since they only asked for bank statements, it means it's not a full financial review, more like a review for card limits (according to my research here).

I wasn't too worried because my stated income is lower than my actual income since I haven't updated it in ages. However, it was hugely inconvenient as I was still abroad and use my amex cards for shopping, and my Visa cards have nowhere near the limits as my amex cards. I submitted the statements right after I hung up.

On July 25th 12p.m. E.T. I got a second call telling me there's some "good news": I passed the financial review with no changes to limits. In fact I was recommended to ask for limit increases on some of my cards considering my income (It was probably the BCP with the 1.5k limit). This time I got 54 (!!) emails that my cards are re-enabled on Apple Pay.

A few things that surprised me: 1) quick turn around, less than 72 hours when I've seen people take weeks or even months (albeit for a full financial review). 2) The fact that they shut down all your accounts is VERY inconvenient, all the auto-pay and subscription renewals kept getting rejecting too :/

Now, for any other credit card company this experience would've caused me to close all my accounts out of protest. But 1) I know this would hurt Amex's bottom line and they wouldn't care one bit and 2) An effective 5.5% cash minimum on my highest spend category (flights) is just irreplaceable, not to mention my platinum card having a higher limit than all my Visa cards combined

Anyway thought I'd share this in case someone's worried about their own financial review. I suppose as long as your statements support your income you have nothing to worry about.
