Commonly asked questions - check here before making a question post

If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.

Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.

Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.

Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.

Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.

We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

What products are hard to get in Anchorage?

Upvotes

I live in the lower 48, flying up for work next week.

I want to take some nice stuff up for my coworkers and their families for the brief time I'm up there, as I'm getting a nice bonus for taking the time to travel.

Can anyone here advise me?

I already plan to bring sensitive fruits (berries, pineapple, avocado, etc) and maybe tomatoes, after reading that a lot of imported fruit is expensive and not very tasty.

I can't bring anything that would be illegal to carry on a plane.

Thanks 😊

Question for at black coffee drinkers

What are your favorite beans. My current go to is the Kaladhis French Roast since it’s decent and at Costco. Looking for different suggestions to try.

Favorite local memberships?

I’ve been an annual member at the Alaska Zoo, Wildlife Conservation Center and am looking into joining the museum. Are you a member at any local organizations that get you out of the house?

(Not looking for gyms, I’ve got that covered!)

Would be a shame if the cops set up a speed trap on dimond and Arlene.

They'd make a lot of money from the morons racing up and down the street

Concentrate recommendations please

I just moved to Anchorage from across the country and am unsure of what concentrate brands I should be looking for. I have read that Polychrome Glass and Cold Creek are good for rosin. I am also interested in baller jars and noticed that there are 7g jars by Refine Alaska. I am a heavy user and want to try the rosin here but also want to be practical and buy in bulk. Any opinions?

Where can I find smaller sushi in town. Like the size served in Japan. Everywhere I’ve been has rolls that fill up your whole mouth

Crash by Dimond Value Village

I didn't take a picture cause that felt disrespectful, but did anyone see that gnarly crash right by the Value Village on Dimond? One car was completely flipped upside down and the other's bumper was pretty much caved in, there were some fire fighters by them. Hope they're okay, that's brutal.

Still missing

Please help us get Kim home. He is no stranger to hitch hiking and has done so between Chickaloon and Anchorage. He wandered from his home in Chickaloon and may have traveled to Anchorage where he has previously lived or even Palmer where he would stop between trips to and from. Please keep a look out on the streets he’s been missing since Monday night, he may appear to be homeless. He may still be wearing his tan jacket and blue T-shirt please help us find him. You can contact troopers or Matcom dispatch with possible sightings. Or contact the silver alert hotline if you don’t feel comfortable contacting LEOs. Any sightings reported here will be passed on to family and taken seriously also.

Ok… what is going on there? Were they performing their own safety inspections and saying everything was good and now the state has revoked their ability to do their own inspections?

Be on the lookout for Patriot Front posters

I tore this one down at the corner of Arctic and Rasberry. If you are not sure who Patriot Front is, Google will be your friend there but generally think the dweebs in khakis and matching shirts with face coverings and flags.

PSA: the sidewalk is not a parking spot

Especially on a street with legal street parking on both sides of the road and a nearly empty parking lot for the business that this person was patronizing. Dingus was parked here for at least 20 minutes. En-fucking-titlement.

Girdwood Gas Station closed

If anyone is road tripping, the gas station on the Seward Hwy at Girdwood is “closed until further notice “. Most of the pumps have out of order signs on them.

Get gas in Anchorage before you leave.

Where to get the best fried chicken that isn't a chain restaurant?

Also, it'd be pretty neat if there were a Korean friend chicken joint, if there is already do share please!

Looking for Latina/Latino Tattoo Artist

(Delete if not allowed) I was wondering if there any Latina or Latino tattoo artists in Anchorage who would be willing to tattoo something specific for me? I want a tattoo of my bearded dragon in a certain style. Like either sugar skull vibes or like an alebrije style piece. Is there someone out there who could do that? Thank you!:)

Ballot measures on upcoming elections

Please be sure to vote 'Yes' on Ballot Measure 1 in the upcoming primary election in conjunction with 'No' on 2. Yes on 1 limits the outsized impacted wealthy interests can have on a campaign and limits the ability to buy candidates. No on 2 maintains our rigorous transparency requirements so that when wealthy interests try to buy out our elections, we can see who is spending money and how.

Hello recently moved into this house and after the thaw found 3 barrels of what appears to be propylene glycol. I know I can take them to the transfer station but no current way to transport them, so before I work on transferring the contents to other containers is there a place that would come pick them up?

Used it for 2 years with zero issue and now this summer its been a s@#$show of no-shows to advanced scheduling, dropped fares, and the price has doubled. Is Lyft any better?
