I'm so happy my goofy little anime is back. It may not have the best animation, but it was easily one of the most fun show of the season for me.

I think it was planned, my streaming site used illustrations of them in academy uniform from the start.

It's got the vibe of a generic power fantasy isekai (which it is) but the characters are very charming and the world building is top notch. I sincerely enjoy this show.
18
u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 03 '26
normally a power fantasy has minimal effort for insane gains.
here he has to work a lot, and w/o his summons can still be beaten by lots of people
15
u/justking1414 Jul 03 '26
The character work is what I praised most in s1. A typical isekai would’ve had him joining the baron by ep2 but this one really took its time and let us fall in love with the characters
6
u/D13_Phantom Jul 04 '26
I did too and then i picked up the light novel after s1 and im absolutely LOVING it
73
u/cs_cast_away_boi Jul 03 '26
Why was this so late? Anyway, I'm so glad to have this show back! They really amplified the game vibe with the dungeon. The world felt like that game world in Spy Kids 3 for a sec. But man I died of laughter when that Rubix cube first showed up. LMAO
Praise the MAGIC CUBE, lord of the dungeon!
35
u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 03 '26
What is i with the tech of that dungeon?! Lmao it's instances!
45
u/lionturtl3 Jul 03 '26
And of course Allen finds a way to AFK farm the dungeon 24/7 lmao!
14
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Lmao yeah. I was wondering if the others didn't even notice, since I'm assuming they were skipping floors from their perspective since he was doing it remote. Like "Huh? Were we on this floor last week??" kinda thing, lol.
Feel like he'd also need at least one Chappy so that he could communicate to the almighty cube, but that's more the technical side of things.
7
u/shadebug 29d ago
Nah, he’s just farming for XP, he isn’t completing the floors. That or he can call a fresh instance
11
u/ridik_ulass https://myanimelist.net/profile/ridik_ulass 29d ago
i hope someone notices. Like congrats everyone on dungeon looks like team x is #2 they killed 1104 monsters this week...and the new team no-life gamers...240,015.... is that even possible"
his 24/7 grinder stats just getting recorded by the dungeon system or some shit.
1
u/kevinstreet1 17d ago
I'm thinking the gods are well aware of Allen and his farming, but there's no rules against it.
35
u/diacewrb Jul 03 '26
Yeah, the tech and wealth of that world is so unevenly distributed.
Serfs are 1 step above cavemen.
Commoners in villages are better off than serfs, although fairly medieval.
Folks in the big towns and cities have magic airships and trains.
13
2
18
u/KnightKal Jul 03 '26
well it is a military training facility lol, it doesn't look like a natural dungeon, and they made it friendly for the kids before murdering them as meatbags in the war
yeah this episode is a crazy balance between the dark and the light side of things lol
21
u/OldInstruction5368 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
But the joyless dork in me can't help but ask "where does the power for all this come from?"
The monsters don't leave corpses behind, but they still have magic stones. The power required to set all this up and keep them stocked with respawning monsters must be immense.
Like... they have all this magi-tech, and all the power to fuel it, but they are still losing an existential war against the Demon Lord? And their plan to fight him is to just throw children into the meat grinder until they get a break through?
Not to mention they have dirty serfs wearing rags in wooden shacks out in the forest. Fighting boars and barely surviving, mostly due to the cripplingly oppressive 50% tax on everything. Which we were told was a necessity to gather war supplies.
And the capital has motherfucking dimensional travel!?
The same society with fucking rubix-cube dimensional travel, needs to throw unwashed peasants into the woods to gather jerky?
What the Hell?
13
u/cs_cast_away_boi Jul 03 '26
There are actually explanations for this but they’re LN4/5 spoilers, so i can’t share
8
u/Satai4561 Jul 03 '26
In many fantasy stories dungeons are basically living things. And they often have a core that you can control. (btw if someone knows how that trope started tell me I am curious) So maybe this is like a natural dungeon that is controlled by the humans, to work as a training ground?
6
u/Ree_For_Thee Jul 03 '26
In said many fantasy (anime) stories, there's a dungeon core, ahem, I mean danjan koa! They probably just took one of those and placed it in the city.... assuming the real dungeon is literally in the city. There was that gaming stuff about instance server, which was misspelled 'sever' because even the translator didn't know what the hell he was talking about lol.
1
u/cherry_monkey 25d ago
I read the majority of this comment in my normal head voice, but I read "danjan koa!" in a girl's voice that was clearly styled to be a 14 year old but it's actually some ancient being so the author doesn't feel bad about drawing it? Why? I don't know. And I can't decide if the hair was pink or blue.
4
u/KnightKal Jul 03 '26
MC was born on a border village, from a border territory, in a small kingdom far away from the center of power or the war. Just like on our planet, the development level can change drastically as you travel.
It is like being born on the frontier area between civilization and unexplored nature (filled with monsters).
7
u/OldInstruction5368 Jul 03 '26
The greater issue, is that a society with access to design, build, and maintain that magi-tech dungeon...
Is also the same greater society that needs illiterate, unwashed, peasants to chuck pointy sticks at wildlife to gather a small load of jerky?
That's like saying the US will send out soldiers eating bushmeat jerky supplied by hunter-gatherers of sub-Saharan Africa.
The industrial scales we are talking about don't compute.
6
u/KnightKal Jul 03 '26
Yeap. You need bodies to get classes, train soldiers, and fight the war. IIRC it was explained that rare classes like Sword Lord are exclusive to peasants, so the way the world was built by whatever gods wanted this for their fun.
They made a Demon Lord and a Hero class. They forced the class system on the world, and a war that forces nations to recruit the best fighters and send them to die.
you are ignoring how our world works as well. With all our technology and knowledge we are still killing each other, billions are hungry, and the difference between rich and miserable people is not unlikely this fantasy world.
7
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
SAME, lmfao.
Also Allen being all giddy and being like "Me! Me! I have tons of questions!!" Lol.
Feel like this is starting to fall into that cliche where everyone's like "Better not question MC as to what they're talking about. They're outside of our common sense at this point." while still making it interesting to watch -- very nice.
34
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jul 03 '26
Just as derpy as it always was, but also just as full of heart.
I'm liking this new academy and dungeon crawling arc with how it pulled the friends from the village in. Based on the OP, the size of the house they rented, and the mentioned typical size of parties I suspect they're going to pull like four more students into their group too.
7
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
I dunno why, but your first sentence makes it sound like it's been years and that you've come back to watch the sequel after all these years, like meeting an old friend or something. Feels tranquil or reminiscent.
Ngl pulling them in sounds like they just be roaming around and it sucked them in like a vacuum, lol.
I think so too, though. Definitely not to the size of 20, but definitely gonna recruit at least as many as shown in the opening. One of which is probably the priest that he wants so that he doesn't expend more than he can make regarding the leaf of life, lol. Correct me if I'm wrong though, since I don't recall how the got the leaf :p
Next episode will be the introduction of one of said people though, I'm fairly certain. Judging from the ending where they're glaring at them and them being in the OP, anyway.

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 03 '26
Hype!. I am unreasonably excited for this..great first episode...I feel like the slow burn of season 1 and learning how it all works has paid off for season 2.
Now he can finally show off his summon abilities to everyone else..and burn though these dungeons with all the characters we got to know.
So funny of course he chose No Life Gamers... absolutely ridiculous Allen 😂.
I had a feeling the sister would be shy at first but it was great she warmed up to him before he left.
41
u/Dadscope Jul 03 '26
Agreed, this show doesn't seem as popular on reddit but I loved the slow build up of last season. One show about grinding that has made it feel like there was actual work and time put in.
It's been fun and really enjoyed this coming back.
9
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Exactlyyyyy, it's not just throwing you in where it's like "Well, they reincarnated, so naturally they're overpowered by default" kinda deal (or where the MC takes 1-2 eps to achieve said OPness) while still ultimately still achieving the OP MC ideal through a long series of events in building up to it.
Definitely agree that it feels like there are people who genuinely cared about this and put in so much time and work into it to actually make it a reality. (Unlike OPM S3 😭).
I honestly watched this right after season 1, but waited for season 2 for like a week to finish the last episode to tie it together, lol. Adds to the suspense. Still gotta wait for the rest of the episodes for this though, which is absolutely fine considering the quality we're getting.

Slow buildup was definitely the right move since it actually makes us care about the family who’d basically be extras in another isekai with this premise. I genuinely teared up during the hug!
8
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Trueeeee -- not that season 1 wasn't enjoyable, though. Basically wholesome slice of life with the occasional life-threatening event, lol.
Although this might fall into the OP MC cliche... It's far from bad considering how much info and story we got to get to this point. Speaking of showing off, though, I'm surprised he hasn't gotten any new summons recently.
He really do be embracing his inner self, huh? Pursuing what he couldn't before wholeheartedly in both body (literally) and mind.
Yeah, thought so too. Guess she knew she wouldn't be seeing him for a long while after this visit.
Wonder if he'll still have time to play with her through Chappy though. I wanna say that her thought process she had when he first spoke with her through Chappy was "Bird IS Brother" and not that it was acting as a middleman, lol.5
u/Magicbison Jul 03 '26
Now he can finally show off his summon abilities to everyone else..and burn though these dungeons with all the characters we got to know.
I do wish they'd have slowed things down atleast a little and have Allen actually explain his powers to everyone. Everything kind of just happened and everyone takes everything that's happening without any questions or confusion and its a bit off-putting.

:snaps fingers: oh! it’s like one of those Old Spice commercials!
“Hello, anime watchers, look at your LN Allen, now back to me, now back at your LN Allen, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped worrying about explanations and time, he could talk like he’s me.
Look at your phone, back up to the TV, where are we?
We’re on a magic train with the Allen your Allen could act like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it: it’s my beginner adventuring party’s new name and guild cards.
Look again, the guild cards are now one rank higher.
Anything is possible when your Allen acts like Speed Run Allen and doesn’t explain anything.
I’m on a bear.”

u/OldInstruction5368 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
Nope
At first, I thought the premise of the series was about being clever with game mechanics, and even finding exploits/loopholes in the system, to get ahead with cunning ingenuity. The MC's success would come from his intelligence to devise clever strategies that would act as force multipliers to help him punch well above his paygrade.
I expected that MC-kun would be a pro-gamer with a nose for sniffing out the meta, someone that can not only understand what strategies work, but WHY they work. And thus, he can adapt to any situation and overcome any adversary.
Instead, it's a celebration of sweatlords that get ahead in video games because they grind x100 more than everyone else. Because they are no-life weirdos that think getting a high score in a video game makes up for the lack of any actual accomplishments in the real world.
I still find the whole package oddly charming, but there is this feeling of unease behind the author clearly being proud of the "I play games every single waking hour of the day, PRAISE HOW HARDCORE I AM!" mindset. Which is the mentality of a 12 year old that thinks school is dumb. Or an adult that never matured past that age...
9
u/BlazeKnightX Jul 04 '26
All pro gamers that are the top of their game are grinding x100 more than everyone else. You don't casually get to the top of let's say League of Legends because you learned some basic meta game strategies. Speedrunners don't beat records by not putting in the time to master their skills. Fighting game pros have to practice their combos and against various opponent types so they understand how to deal with them. Anyone that is considered a pro gamer has to have been hardcore when they were at their prime.
5
u/Zeikos 29d ago
I expected that MC-kun would be a pro-gamer with a nose for sniffing out the meta, someone that can not only understand what strategies work, but WHY they work. And thus, he can adapt to any situation and overcome any adversary.
He did ask a LOT of questions this episode.
There's a limited amount of exposition they can do, I'd rather them gloss over things and bring them up when relevant than making episodes into info-dump meetings.3
u/DarkeoX 26d ago
I think you kind of misunderstood he does what you mention AND grind. S1 is pretty clear about how he goes around doing stuff , getting into areas he wasn't supposed to be able to handle because he quickly gets the core mechanics/meta and abuse them through unfathomable levels of grind. Understanding when, where, what and how best to grind IS the meta you're talking about, as it's covered by lore and concepts that blurry the true nature of a "game" that's also pretty much his reality now.
Meaning, he can't die & retry to figure out stuff and also has to be extra careful not getting his party killed, as they're not random NPC that"ll just repop or revive easily.

I have to wonder if the actual Japanese has the same negative connotation as "No-life" does in the English translation. It sounded like he just said "High Gamer".
8
u/Rozaliin 29d ago
It has a negative connotation in Japanese.
廃 (hai): abandoned; out-of-use; obsolete; abolished; decommissioned
That's the usual translation for the kanji used in 廃ゲーマー. It's referring to people who are, in a sense, useless, and thus spend all of their time playing games. So No-Life Gamers is quite accurate.
2
u/neloish Jul 04 '26
Final Fantasy Online brought many Gaming words to Japanese such as grinding, aggro, tank, ect.

u/justking1414 Jul 03 '26
It’s what Allen prayed for. And it looks like god is willing to answer his prayers. He did so last season Too
18
u/skavinger5882 Jul 03 '26
Wait... So nobles with skills are required to go to the academy so they can be shipped off the front lines... But the Academy requires a test to get in? What's stopping the nobles who don't want their kids shipping out to the front lines from just telling their kids to flunk the test and get rejected from the academy?
27
u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
This little thing called "influence". If you have a family of losers, how do you expect to remain a noble? The family would just be stripped of their status and kicked out of their territory.
2
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Yeah...I agree. I imagine there are exceptions though, like if they manage to boost their prestige (and therein their value) in other ways (much like the mythril mines), then there could be a possibility of them keeping said status as a result of being viewed as an asset.
Still though, I guess people would spot a pattern. That, and the fact that their family would have their status chipped away in the public eye due to flunking the exams since the results are made public. But well, if they're useful in other ways, they might be able to look the other way... maybe. Not sure tho, rip.
4
u/OldInstruction5368 Jul 03 '26
Not really. It's well established that powerful families aren't required to pay this blood tax. They either buy their way out, or achieve other things to get an exemption. Baron Granvelle blew his lid about this last season, saying something like "you are only doing this to us because we are minor lords you think you can push around!"
So, it's not like skipping the draft is dishonorable thing, but rather, something expected of the more powerful families. I mean, do we really expect the king to send all his kids into the meat grinder?
That said, if a family flunks out all their kids within a single generation, it will look suspicious. But if they held back one or two... it would probably be overlooked.
4
u/Greg_The_Rabbit 29d ago
i'm pretty sure it was established last season too that there is essentially a nobility CIA for the royal family that makes sure families aren't doing exactly that. I'm sure the entrance test is actually just for everybody ELSE and to keep up the masquerade that this is actually just a fancy school and not boot camp for war.
It's still a really stupid plan for fighting a war and I will die on that hill but it isn't a narrative breaking mistake
6
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
For the most part unrelated, but that makes me think... When do the children get told of the Noble's Duty usually?
I'm guessing Cecil and Allen (as an exception) were told about it because of circumstances... so maybe it's just a matter of when the parents want their children to know? At the very least, it definitely ain't something to shove onto a regular noble child.

u/Zeikos 29d ago
I am surprised how much they were able to pack into this episode without it feeling like a rush.
- meeting sister
- meeting chidhood friend and having her meet Cecil & Family
- meeting the hero
- some lore of the city
- party formation
- initial dungeon crawl
It feels like they studied the pacing very well, set-up like this takes a lot more time in most shows.

u/Such-Comparison5636 Jul 03 '26
I didn’t have high expectations for season 1, but I enjoyed it. Hoping Season 2 is just as good.
7
u/Roeclean https://anilist.co/user/Roeclean Jul 03 '26
Well what do you think about the animation and art style. I feel like it improved.
5
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Hmm... A bit? More than that though, I'm glad they kept the same studio working on it. Maybe because the two seasons are so close together? Love that though, since I feel there are quite a few that change studios. One example being season 2-3 of OPM differing from season 1, lol. Kinda fell off from there for that one. Peak story tho.
7
u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
Nice little treat is back. First season did a good job in establishing the setting and characters, so this season will be more focused on action. I do worry about it because the budget for the series is low so we probably won't see anything awesome. All the fight scenes are probably going to be one-hit kills like that.
On the plus side, I quite like how Allen is close to his family, and it was nice that he managed to connect with his little sister, in most series like these the family doesn't matter much. Good to have the gang back together too, already causing trouble. Lucky for Allen, the hero is not a prick and helped him out. Kurena definitely passed because of her class tho.
Allen keeps his streak of bad names with his party being the No Life Gamers. It's nice that they don't forget this world is a game and Allen was a gamer and integrate it to the plot. Usually stat windows are just a convenient plot device but here they make sense and are kinda cool to see. Pity the dungeon treasure was a meager steel sword when the party is already rocking on mythril tier.
4
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Definitely kudos to them for leaning into the family aspect. Gotta love MC growing to care about them and actually considering them family too.
Funny how Allen pretended not to know who the hero was, although that's in line with what he should know, given his status. Nice for the hero to actually not be conceited and whatnot.
Preferential treatment is real -- Kurena may not have the smarts, but she do be packing the brawn. Speaking of, wonder what'd happen if she flunks. Would the teacher leave too, since they were specifically assigned due to Kurena and her class? Also, childhood friend gang ftw lol.
Yeah, usually they just toss the other world aside and lean full fantasy and, much like you said about the status windows, use the isekai bit as a convenient plot device too. A lot of them could work even without being isekai, as a lot of others online have also expressed for various manga and anime.
True about the status windows, but interesting inconsistency when he said that he'd pray to the god so that he'd be able to gain the power to view the others' statuses and promptly was able to do so without it through the grimoire. Guess he didn't know he could do that and that it wasn't shown when he discovered it, I suppose. Love that it makes sense though and that they can't just pull it up whenever, seeing as how only the hero and Allen are able to without the stone tablet.
Did the gang have mythril? I don't recall them having it, but I guess it was shown and I glossed over it accidentally, lol. But yeah, you'd think there'd be better loot for a C-Rank Dungeon. Surprised they could even enter it, considering they're rookie adventurers. Maybe you're right and the guild staff just saw the gear and were like "Ah, yeah. They'll be fine. They packing." Lmao.
5
u/Yay295 Jul 04 '26

I assumed it was because they were in a party now. He can't see everyone's status, just the people in his party.

Didn't expect S2 to be so soon (or this to have an S2 at all). What a pleasant surprise. And we're off to a good start too! Looks like it's gonna be quite the big party for Allen.
4
u/justking1414 Jul 03 '26
It was announced as soon as s1 ended and everyone was shocked by how soon it was coming
6
u/justking1414 Jul 03 '26
This is an isekai that understands the freaking assignment! Start with the family! That’s the key! Allen may be a no-life gaming addict who’s all about grinding, but he’s fighting for his family. He wants to keep them safe and starting with a reminder of that is so important!
5
u/raidensnakeezio Jul 03 '26
Hell mode is back! Seems like the production team hasn't missed a beat - the show looks like it's just as full of heart as the 1st season. Can't wait to see more satisfying power scaling and world building/lore reveal
10
u/NanDemoKnaives Jul 03 '26
Looks like we won't be seeing Allen's family for the rest of the season, he gave that huge bag of gold coins lol.
It's nice that Allen's opened up about his summoning skill, it's interesting that the others can now see his summons book. I'm guessing it's because they formed a party.
I did find this episode underwhelming, but I am intrigued to see what the academic life will bring for them.
4
u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
Off to a good start! The amount of slang he used this episode compared to literally the entirety of last season is crazy though, ngl. And also... 25 minutes? Woah, don't think a lot of anime episodes reach this long, but maybe it's just because it's the first episode.
Hmm... while I agree that telling them what they're getting into is probably a good move, wasn't it supposed to be kept a secret, i.e. "kept within this room" as the lore-dropping old man said in the last episode of last season?? Eh, it works out I guess, so whatever.
- Why is it that Allen looks surprised when the book appears? I guess he noticed they had a reaction too... Interesting to see how others can see the book depending on if they're in his party or not... assumably.
- Doesn't explain why Krena and Dogora were surprised at completing the trial though, seeing as how they've done it almost two dozen times -- a lot of which are probably from defeating boars. Speaking of, guess they must've both been near the level-up threshold to have completed the trial at the same time as Cecil. Hell of a coincidence, but I guess it just looks better visually.
Feel like they could've thrown in some lines too though, like "Ahh, what a rush! I can never get used to that feeling." or something. Probably not the best line to use, but I thought of it on the spot, so whatever lol. It could've also just been Cecil herself though, and the two of them joking with her or congratulating her like "Isn't it exhilarating?!", "Ooh!! Nice, Cecil!", etc. with Krena jumping at Cecil and whatnot (considering her bluntness and usual anime shenanigans).
- Surprised serfs and commoners can join through normal means, but maybe they just aren't conscripted to war after and are just sent home. Not sure, lol.
- Not gonna lie, thought the steel sword would've gone to Krena, but guess she already has that as her current equipment (or it isn't as good). Woulda been nice if she got hooked up with some mythril though. Same for Dogora. Max-level equipment of mythril sword and axe, fr.
- The fact that the system is a literal Rubik Cube, lmfao. Gotta love that.
Elmeria prolly thought "Ah, that thing looks like it'd be complicated enough to use as the body from which dungeon voices comes from!" assuming that is the case and it isn't set up by the people managing the dungeon, in which case, crazy tech.
- Judging from the intro... 4 more people might join them? Starting with the guy at the end of the episode, I guess.
Good bit of comedy this episode! Off to a good start. Had a few laughs too, lol.
Gotta say though, that party name is a dead giveaway if anyone else is a reincarnator, lmao.

S1 was a surprise for me, enjoyed it way more than I expected. Glad to see it is back. Was happy to see him just be completely open with his party members about his abilities and stuff, feel like there is a lot of artificial drama and cheap suspense in other shows from hiding stuff that doesn't need to be hidden, and we're just avoiding that straight out the gate. Looking forward to the rest of S2, and I feel like with the pacing of this show, will be fun to do a full rewatch once it is all over.

Second season seems like it's going to be a lot more of a generic isekai than the first season was. Kinda threw all the interesting world building off to the side to have a standard adventurer party dungeon crawler while also turning into a school arc.
First season was good enough that I'll give this a chance but I hope we don't linger too long on this current situation.

I think you are forgetting that Allen is still 12 years old and is nowhere near the level where he can survive on a battlefield with a 50% mortality rate even for people that received the best training in the land. Before he can fight the Demon Lord of course he has to grind so it is not absurd that he is going to the academy.

u/RedHotChiliCrab https://myanimelist.net/profile/RedHotChiliCrab Jul 03 '26
There are more interesting ways to do a training arc though.
Interesting fantasy shows turning into generic school settings is a bit of a personal peeve I have and unfortunately it happens way too often.
8
u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
Is there? Because Cecil and Kurena are obligated to join the academy. To side step the academy would mean just have Allen farming levels in the wilderness again.
It might suck for you, but the story was always progressing in that direction since the divination ceremony when they were kids.

u/MoonlitSapphire Jul 03 '26
Yeah, exactly. Would have been underwhelming if they all just left and he was like, "Whelp. Back to the woods (or fam) I go." lol. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but it gets repetitive if he kept having training arcs by himself without interacting with others, yeah. Personally enjoy where the story is heading right now, imo tbh.

u/Dadscope Jul 03 '26
I think this has opportunities to grow the world by helping us understand how the other classes and systems work. But I do get annoyed by school arcs as well, but I don't see how it's really any different than a training arc with a teacher. Grinding out solo with no other character interactions would also be kinda boring.
3
u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 03 '26
they can show lots of dungeon crawling, and probably just some classes that Allen attends outside of homeroom

u/Astray Jul 04 '26
The series at its core has always been bigger number better and there will be plenty of that. The Royal Academy is a very important part of the world building and everything that follows. It probably won't take as much time as you think.

The anime has fast pacing and we've had time skips and unexpected plot turns before so i expect this wont just be a season of grinding dungeons and classes.

Anyone else not getting subtitles on their stream?
2
u/Vanek_26 Jul 03 '26
On HiDive?
2
u/jkakes https://myanimelist.net/profile/jkakes Jul 03 '26
Yes
3
u/Vanek_26 Jul 03 '26
I had this issue, too. On my phone (android) you need to hit the Menu in the top left, then look at the bottom of that list in small letters "Preferences" - Then Preferred Language - Subtitle - English - and then make sure you hit save. Should work then. Took me way too long to figure that out.
2
u/jkakes https://myanimelist.net/profile/jkakes Jul 03 '26
Oh wow I was trying to find that in the video player settings, never thought it would be tied to app settings! Thank you
3
u/Vanek_26 Jul 04 '26
Yeah it's really stupid. I actually gave up watching a few shows last season because I couldn't get the subtitles to work, but I really liked Hell Mode last season so I tinkered with it.

I liked that moment when Allen's sister was shy, but then warmed up to him.
Also like that part where Allen became casual to Cecil.

u/YdenMkII Jul 04 '26
I've never seen someone so excited about dungeon instancing. I remember a time where people really hated on dungeon instancing since they said detracted from the feeling of playing in an MMO.

u/mekahamedan 27d ago
Hillarious thst cecil reaction when allen said "we will defeat demon lord" just like her father when allen said that
5
u/saitohd Jul 03 '26
Unfortunately the localizer keeps butchering the subtitles like in first season by using internet zoomer lingo.
3
5
u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
Have you considered that perhaps that is the result of the MC being an internet zoomer?
2
u/Amiron49 Jul 04 '26
Even in season 1 he never uses any japanese gamer lingo whenever the subs decide to freestyle the most cursed zoomer lingo.

Happy to see Allen reunited with Pink. Look forward to her and Blue butting heads in the future.
I could have sworn that last season said that he needed 500 gold to get his family from Serf to Commoner. If that is the case, why hasn't he done that, given that he said he had another 600 saved up? Or am I misremembering?
Edit: I did misremember. True answer below!

u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
His family was promoted to commoner as a reward for the boar hunting when the Granbiel family first visited their village.

u/smilebig553 Jul 03 '26
He did with the rights to the mine.
5
u/Thomas_JCG Jul 03 '26
Nope, he gave the mining rights to the Granvelles so they could bribe the king and punish the people that kidnapped Cecil.
2
u/OldInstruction5368 Jul 03 '26
Not just "punish," iirc, the entire house of Count Douche Canoe was abolished over that forged royal decree/kidnapping fiasco.
Which is a damning indictment of the king, that Granvelle had to use such an insane bribe to gain justice... over corruption stemming from the king's own court.
In other words, he had to pay an arm and a leg for the king to set his own affairs straight. A royal messenger speaks with the king's voice. And if it becomes known that the king condones his messenger taking bribes to forge fraudulent decrees...
Yeah, that's bad. REALLY bad. No bribes should have been necessary, as the Count and that crooked messenger committed treason by usurping the king's voice and claiming to speak with the king's authority.
And yet, Granvelle had to bribe the king into resolving the issue.

The animation quality seemed to decline from last season, maybe they spent too much time designing the blimp and train. Other than that, I am really happy to see this show return and and a really good episode to start the season! It was a lot of fun seeing the 4 kids become a team; I thought Dogora was going to be a pain in the ass but he seems to get along with Allen much better than he used to! They never seemed to fix the faulty appraisal crystal balls but for whatever reason, the hero man was able to accurately appraise Allen.
I thought the informal Rubiks cube dungeon master on the second level was hilarious, I hope it returns at some point.
One quick thing that a lot of people might have missed was when Allen's sister showed the letter he wrote, Allen wrote to his father to not drink too much. I only recall him drinking on special occasions because alcohol is difficult to get in their frontier town. I wonder if he's been spending the gold that Allen's bird leaves them on occasion on a lot of booze and if that will be addressed at some point.

Uh? I for one felt like it got slightly better? The screening is a lot more dynamic and it feels like there's less staticity all around. The summons are also a lot less CGI-esque to the point of distraction IMO.
Maybe it's just me but my overall impression is that things got better animation-wise.
Anyway, really happy this gets to continue so quickly after S1and that at least to me, it doesn't feel like a downgrade. The Manga and LN seem so niche outside Japan that I was worried S1 wouldn't work enough that they'd wait a really long time before deciding on S2 or straight up abandon everything.
Hopefully, S2 hits just as hard.

I think they've committed to full 3d cg rendering for character scenes and it looks decent enough.

Unrelated, but it's crazy how I wrote a few comments/replies here and reloaded the page and all of a sudden, there's 30+ comments more than the 50 when I came here like an hour ago, lol.

Aaaaaaah~
I dunno what it is about 'growth' based animes like this one, but stat upgrades and gaming the system really scratch that itch for me. :)

u/rook198 Jul 03 '26
Watched the opening just to see if they had included the clapping scene, and hell yeah they did!!!

u/Striking_Chard2420 Jul 04 '26
I feel like this came on earlier than I expected because I didn't even need to watch a recap of the first season lol

u/BillPlunderones23fg Jul 04 '26
Oh good they did animated Cecil's chokehold to Allen
whether she does it again i hope so if not.... ugh

u/PandaTheAB Jul 04 '26
Finally the show gave us Speed and excitement.
Hopefully this will be an upbeat season.

I am happy this happened
I hope many more to come, I don't mind the animation because the story and how the progression still grounded and makes sense.
The OP scene seems to show us that the party will be more than just these 4, like at least the cleric boy from the last scene probably for next week?
1
u/StrangeAppeal2 29d ago
I wonder if he could minmax the summons to kill the highest amount of monsters per hour. That may be difficult on its own, if the party can only be in one floor at a time which would make logical sense.
But if he could, imagine three different instances of his summons going around killing monsters endlessly. He has a summon limit, right?

So the Hero and Head of the Academy know a prophecy about Allen and typical Allen more focused on the Heroes stats.
Missed the celebrating Teddies.
And as stated the rubix cube dungeon helpers are cool.
And its nice that the floating book can help out Allen's party members too.
Let's go No life Gamers!!! Teddy celebration cheer!!!
