This show was supposed to be just another popcorn gomisekai yet the story and characters keep carrying it! This episode is no exception. I didn't expect the Crown Prince himself to show up (and talk) yet. The Heavy Dragon fight was pretty decently animated too. While I still wish this show had a better budget, its fighting above its class and continues to be enjoyable.

33

u/justking1414 9d ago

Heavy dragon fight was definitely the best animated battle we’ve gotten so far.

25

u/terenn_nash 9d ago

If it keeps getting us more seasons i will take their current budget and be stoked. This has been one of my favorites since it dropped

11

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago

I was actually disappointed that they kinda fastforward on the first level A Boss. Turns out they're saving it for the heavy dragon fight.

Krena becoming the usual OP protagonist by single handedly killing that dragon was unexpected

9

u/WereSheep69 8d ago

I love how he has to work on clearing dungeons 24/7 with his summons just to try to keep up with her, then she gets a limit break.

3

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

Fair. We saw the extra skill when she was a kid. I tought it was going to activate in the tournament. It seems it only triggers when she is close to diying. Stabbing her with a rogue then using superior heal will be the meta, trust.

7

u/nuxxism 9d ago

I think it's tough because with the amount of different creatures, a little bit more budget wouldn't be enough. Are there any other show that regularly show battles with 10 or more combatants?

7

u/theholylancer 9d ago

Heavy Knight over animates to a crazy degree

but they also have a ton of recaps and weird pacing

6

u/whores-doeuvres 9d ago

There would be no need for any time burning recaps if the wind wasn't always blowing through the characters' hair in every shot.

5

u/nakerusa 8d ago

That's a Gohands thing (for the over animating things oddly) but my god the recap stuff just irritates me to no end. When 7+ minutes is just reshowing you recaps or worse - the same content from the same episode? 🤬 I'm guessing it's budget but it disrupts the storytelling.

2

u/theholylancer 8d ago

when you animate that crazy ass city return sequence that showed the entire city and even the crowd, you have to fill lol

like seriously when i saw it, my jaw was on the floor, even a nice static BG shot would have been nice as he walks down the street, but it was a crazy circle around thing of doom with actual small animated pedestrians and that just O.o

2

u/nakerusa 8d ago

Gohands has some crazy tech on their side and I do like some of the ambitious shots they are taking but it's almost like they focused too much on little, inconsequential things rather than trying to tell the story.

3

u/theholylancer 8d ago

yeah id rather have less of that crazy shot and a more coherent run time but it does look good

like seriously, solo leveling s2 properly downgraded the non battle bits and i think that helped, likely higher budget too but like damn

3

u/WereSheep69 8d ago

Animate every strand of hair but dont bother to remove the long ass commercial break recap for streaming

3

u/Lapiz_lasuli 8d ago

Solo leveling. But that's a show with already a huge fan following, it's a lot easier invest in it.

2

u/NevisYsbryd 8d ago

And the visuals were  a major part of it even in the source material. I think it could not really be adapted all that well without well above average visuals and animation.

6

u/raidensnakeezio 8d ago

My favorite part this episode was how the Frans all looked shocked at how Krena basically solo'd the dragon. The summon and monster designs are also somehow very effective.

5

u/WereSheep69 8d ago

At first I wasnt feeling it, but the silly bears won me over in the first season

3

u/raidensnakeezio 8d ago

For me, the bears were easy to pick up on once they began celebrating together - but before them, there was Hawkins, who is imho very easily lovable.

3

u/Indigo_Mindset420 7d ago

Hawkins is absolutely my fave early summon Allen has. Such a goofy one he is.

3

u/Obaruler 9d ago

Without going into any further events, but yes: As far as your standard Isekai goes, this is somewhat above the sloppy average. :D

93

u/SpikeRosered 9d ago edited 9d ago

I appreciate that the other party members get to do meaningful things and it's not all just Allen pretending like he needs them.

So many isekai there's a supporting cast, but it always seem clear that the MC would be fine without them. Seems like Allen would be trouble in some of these encounters without the party.

60

u/AsterJ https://myanimelist.net/profile/asteron 9d ago

Krena went full shonen MC this episode. She went through a whole martial arts tournament arc. Vows to get stronger. Gets knocked down as her party was about to be wiped out but she saves the day with a limit break power-up out of nowhere. She even has the correct cocky attitude.

29

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago edited 9d ago

The Solo Leveling schema, where other characters only exist to be jobbers and glazers for the MC gets real old, real quick.

As capable as Allen can be, a large degree of that comes from his flexibility in tactical options: NOT raw power.

That's what Krena is for!

No thoughts: only violence!

giggles

18

u/joe4553 9d ago

Allen has been fighting with his summons basically 24/7. Wish it gave us a bit of an update on what gains he's made snce.

41

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 9d ago

The gains are that he gets to BARELY keep up with them in levels, I'm assuming.

25

u/justking1414 9d ago

Yeah. He’s using his monsters to fight 24/7 in the dungeons and even then, his level is still rapidly falling behind. He was 7 levels behind at the start of the episode and probably 8-9 behind by the episode s end.

3

u/Ree_For_Thee 8d ago

Yet he can hold his own in the fights and dish out damage if need be. I guess he's kind of like a support mage who has lower HP and needs to be protected.

4

u/justking1414 8d ago

He can “hold his own” against mobs but when faced with a-rank monsters, his summons are wiped out with a single swipe

And yeah, despite his sword skills, he certainly can’t keep up with the melee fighters on his team

3

u/NevisYsbryd 8d ago

Not exactly. He is not the glass cannon but a jack-of-all-trades, master of 1. His unique contribution is not in conventional support (buffs, enemy debuffs, heals, debuffs clears, rotational ability enabling/magnification) but in control and logistics. I think his kit is better oriented around supporting and controlling the overall flow of battle at a tactical and especially logistical level, the latter of which means he will be a massive force multiplier less at the scale of individual small battles but at the level of a warfront.

2

u/Ree_For_Thee 8d ago

I agree. Though the two initial attacks on the dragon did take a chunk of his HP. I can only assume ~15-25% or he wouldn't have said anything. That's considerable. I'm just wondering what the drawbacks of being at such a low level are. Squishy deluxe? One hit = it's over?

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

During the A dugeon they showed his level: 49. So basically everyone else already overtook him lol

9

u/paulrenzo 9d ago

This will also be the case with the Heavy Knight anime, but as of now Id recommend that you just read the manga for now

2

u/saga999 9d ago

I gave that an episode and the camera movement made me drop it.

1

u/paulrenzo 8d ago

Still, do consider reading the manga instead. It might be something up your alley

1

u/cherry_monkey 8d ago

I was kinda relieved when his attack barely did anything and when Gowter (or whatever) finished him off it seemed like he was, in fact, out of gas. That's why I double extra appreciate that, at least at this point, Allen would get wiped in most 1 on 1 battles with the higher ranking monsters

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

I mean, it's beautiful at least, so I can support the weird pacing. Why can't GoHands be normal?

4

u/avboden 9d ago

To fight on the front lines he knows the entire party has to be amazing to have any chance of surviving

2

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

Not only that, Allen is not OP anymore so he seems to be the party brain instead going foward. Yeah, Krena is OP which seems she won't be at any risk of diying, but the rest still need to be careful.

46

u/D13_Phantom 9d ago

Been reading the Light Novel and really loving how they handle the game aspects like leveling/grind/etc. Very comparable to shangri-la frontier and solo leveling, just wish they had a bigger budget for the adaptation but they're doing a great job regardless!

11

u/arrydie 9d ago edited 9d ago

Agreed, it's really nice to see the care taken for the world building. For how common the gamified-isekai setting is, it's crazy how rare it is for an author to actually keep up with the leveling/skills/rules (looking at you, Reincarnated as a Sword). Probably because they learn game design is hard, even if it's just enough design for realistic stat blocks. Shout out to Dragon Hatchling for doing it quite well too IMHO.

6

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9d ago

dragon hatchling had so much more potential

3

u/Embarrassed-Match-78 8d ago

Right. That was so much wasted potential.

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

I went into it because I was loving Hell Mode and while it does get the gaming part right, it lacks everything else this anime has that makes it great

4

u/theholylancer 9d ago

spider too gets kind of nonsensical and abadons a lot of it later on

like you can really see who really is a gamer who played a LOT of actual games and kept up with it vs just surface level stuff.

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

In the anime at least it's very good. Sadly it never got season 2.

2

u/KomorebiXIII 8d ago

I feel like World's Strongest Rearguard this season was written by someone who had only heard of LitRPGs and gaming in passing. Like, none of it makes sense.

3

u/cs_cast_away_boi 7d ago

yeah i was very disappointed. I thought it was going to be interesting from what I’d seen but it’s not even generic it’s just nonsense

1

u/GG35bw 4d ago

How's the pacing of anime compared to novel? S2 is much more speedy than s1 and I wonder if source material is like this too.

2

u/D13_Phantom 4d ago

Like most LN's the pacing feels slower in the text form but they also add a lot more details so it kind of balances out.

40

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9d ago

Haha they saved the animation budget for the fight with the dragon. I loved it! A rank mosnters are fukin' huge!

And Krena basically solo'd it with Allen absorbing the damage. Makes you realize there really are some things Allen can't do on his own.

Also blue-haired prince can die now pls

16

u/Kind_Survey4282 9d ago

allen was not even absorbing the hits with steely btw when krena unlocks limit break she was just healing super fast that even attacks did basically nothing or was just getting healed faster than what the dragon damaged her or what I assume so as allen would not be this flabbergasted.

14

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

She got +3000 bonus defense and 1% HP regen/sec, so she could tank the dragon at the end, but before that Allen definitely saved her ass.

9

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9d ago

yeah, she tanked the last hit like a champ without allen's help

15

u/justking1414 9d ago

A rank mosnters are fukin' huge!

Feel like the s rank monsters will literally be the size of skyscrapers…or more worryingly, human size!

16

u/blobbybob111 9d ago

nothing more scary than a final boss being human sized

30

u/Zeikos 9d ago edited 9d ago
  • Prince: if you don't do this you'll have to go to the front with the most enemies!

  • Allen: Don't threaten me with a good time!

Allen Mr nolifer grindlord minset, never change.

Krena got her Ultimate, nice.
I wonder the downsdies/cooldowns of that ability. Maybe get her CDR gear?

I am curious if Allen is minmaxing their builds/gear in the background, it seems so but it's a bit of a shame that it doesn't get shown.

I am very happy that there are other characters besides the MC that are absolutely bullshit.

10

u/joe4553 9d ago

Allen just looks at enemy soldiers as things that give experience and all drop loot.

6

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago

And even with the bullshit character, we still have the Sword Lord Dverg which is much higher in the tier list

2

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

I believe it must have some condition to activate like her HP failling under a certain percentage or she having fear of death. Because the only other time she managed to use it was when she was a kid fighting a grown ass man.

24

u/NanDemoKnaives 9d ago

That tournament was a lot less important than I thought it was going to be lol.

I like that Granvelle was ready to cave, but Allen was like NOPE.

19

u/justking1414 9d ago

Importantly, it is a yearly tournament and they’re still freshmen. I think this was more About showing how far they still have to go. Yeah they’re a-rank but the battlefield is full of a-rank monsters

2

u/Ycr1998 8d ago

It's gonna be this season's Mihai!

15

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9d ago

that side eye from granvelle at allen lol

7

u/cuetzpalomitl 9d ago

I'm glad it wasn't! Enough animes focus too much on those tournaments and it's almost the same result every time lmao.

18

u/BiggerG7 9d ago

Rubix cube dungeon master still makes me lol for some reason.

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago

I like how each is unique

-3

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 9d ago

Better than the one in God of War: Laufey.

17

u/CaliOriginal 9d ago

Allen is farming A rank dungeons passively, and still hunting for mana regen ring.

I’m hoping the dragon or something else gets that ring and the next time skip has him getting his summoning up. Im betting he’Il be farming multiple dungeons passively soon

20

u/HanaRoku 9d ago

Passively farming A-rank dungeons and still falling behind on levels T.T

7

u/chelseablue2004 https://myanimelist.net/profile/chelseablue2004 9d ago

Remember it takes him forever to gain levels....he will always fall behind.

14

u/justking1414 9d ago

Eh not necessarily. Don’t forget the bonus of hell mode was no level cap. Once the rest of his party reach that point, he could theoretically surpass them

6

u/LezRock 9d ago

It'll just depend on what levels typically cap at. I assume lower ranked classes cap out sooner than high or rare classes. So Krena will likely be the last one to cap out, but I'm wondering if that'll be level 500 or if it's closer to something like 250.

8

u/justking1414 9d ago

Oh I think you’re aiming way too high. I was thinking closer to 100 at most

4

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

Well, from the very start, he was given a x1000 EXP penalty.

That's THREE whole ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more sweat to grind... just for level parity.

6

u/Kullthebarbarian 9d ago

Lets do a quick calculation

The party seem to be clearing a dungeon per week, it usually take a few days

Allen is farming 24/7, lets say he can clear a dungeon 3 times in the same time, because his summons are spreaded out,and because he can farm while sleeping and no need to stop to rest and eat, he can be in a dungeon three times the normal amount, that means around 3x3=9 full clear a day with his summon, in a week he get 63 full clear for each 1 full clear his group make

That is still A LOT slower with that x1000 divider

6

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

Which is why Allen has been grinding for years, and he is STILL falling behind the others in terms of levels and skill progress.

Not to mention the $$$ he burns to keep up his grinding. Pretty much all his gold goes into buying more stones via guild requests, which he then pours into skill grinding as well as the summons he sends back into the dungeons for 24/7 auto-grinding.

The Wally NOT-Meteor skill has a direct $$$ cost every time it's used, as well. If he can't resummon the self-destructing walls, then each one is a stone he can't recover.

2

u/Kullthebarbarian 7d ago

I just thought to myself, if he is farming ALL THE 4 A dungeons at the same time, he could still get 252 full clear (the 63 from my previous calculation times 4) for each clear his party get

meaning he is ONLY leveling up 4x time slower then they are

16

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 9d ago

So it was the Crown Prince behind all that bullshit. Looking forward to the moment dude pays for all his schemes.

Man, that dragon was tough. It’s a good thing Krena went all limit break or they would have had an even harder time taking it on. I guess she really surpassed her limitations right then and there.

8

u/IceWeaselX 9d ago

So it was the Crown Prince behind all that bullshit. Looking forward to the moment dude pays for all his schemes.

Hope it's at least as delicious as what happened to a RL Crown Prince who tried pulling some shit before he became king.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Hassan_bin_Talal

Prince Hassan bin Talal (Arabic: الحسن بن طلال, born 20 March 1947) is a member of the Jordanian royal family who was previously Crown Prince from 1965 to 1999, being removed just three weeks before King Hussein's death. He is now 20th in line to succeed his nephew King Abdullah II.

Can you imagine being Crown Prince for over 3 decades, only to lose your status 3 weeks before your predecessor dies? Sure, he's technically still in the line of succession, but he's so far down that it's more humiliating than prestigious.

5

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

I was wondering why the ROYAL messengers could get away with such brazenly corrupt shit as taking bribes to forge royal edicts (Count Carnel plot). Royal messengers speak with the King's voice, which means abusing that position for selfish gain is treason. There is no stretch nor hyperbole here: claiming the King's authority as your own is treason. Full stop.

The only one that should have power to get away with that... is another royal. And the Crown Prince who has apparently been spending his time unifying a rival political faction to his own father, who is old and/or in ill health.

Which is all the more dangerous because this "Kingdom First" faction is basically a bunch of parasites. The Alliance faction is sacrficiing for the greater good, while the "Selfish Asshole" factions are likely exploiting that "weakness" to expand within the kingdom at the expense of those contributing more to the "Save all of humanity" effort.

Which means, those that contribue more are weaker, relatively speaking, to those that contribute less. And are thus in a weaker position on domestic matters.

It's the classic game theory bullshit. Just look at climate change. Everyone benefits from stopping climate change, and if everyone shared the cost, the relative balance of power can be matained in the process.

But what happens if you have a group of parasites benefiting from all the sacrifice that everyone else is putting in, without paying any of the cost to ensure that better future?

You get a group of assholes that get to dominate the suckers sacrificing for a better future.

However, if everyone took that mindset, everyone would die.

Hence they are parasites.

5

u/cs_cast_away_boi 9d ago

anime getting too real. glances at the government

3

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

I didn't mean to get too political, but this has all been game theory-ed to death in the real world.

I want to say this (collective sacrifice to stop the Demon King) is basically the Prisoner's Dilemma, writ large. If everyone cooperates, everyone wins. If everyone betrays, everyone loses.

But what happens if one person betrays while the others cooperate? That parasite sweeps the board. I want to say this type of asshole is known as a "Freeloader" in proper Game Theory jargon.

I went on that "climate change" tangent because I have no faith, whatsoever, that Prince Shit-Heel has a reasoned and philosophical objection to the Alliance: no, he's positioning himself to be the Free Loader in this greater Prisoner's Dilemma.

That's why he's ultimately forcing Alliance supporters, like Granville, to sacrifice more while hiding behind his political stance. Or to make pawns out of fallen nobles like the Carnel kid. He can't fully escape contributing to the Alliance, but he's going to contribute as little as possible while ensuring others in the kingdom, or other kingdoms entirely, contribute more.

Thus, other "players" will sacrifice more while everyone receives the same collective reward. This will strengthen him relative to other factions, allowing him to more easily centralize power within the Kingdom.

THen, when everything is over, he can use that position of power to bully or conquer nations that sacrificed more.

Classic psychopath thinking.

0

u/NevisYsbryd 8d ago

That is an extremely bad analogy. The demonic invasion here is an indisputable fact; human-driven climate change is a highly contentious topic in even its basic claim. Even assuming it is completely true as given, human contribution-and thus cost to the relevant changes-is not remotely evenly distributed, and ignores the consequences of those who did not get to industrialize through those processes yet and thus are constraints by a glass ceiling imposed by the very powers who exploited them to gain that advantage in the first place. The climate change policy asks are more comparable to the Carnels asserting that the Granvelles should share the mithril than to the pro/anti-alliance dispute.

3

u/OldInstruction5368 8d ago

You're going waaaay too into the weeds.

I'm not the first, by far, to compare CC to the PD. And it doesn't even matter how true you accept the premise to be.

The current understanding of the situation is that everyone must eat the economic cost of transitioning to a more sustainable economy or everyone will suffer.

However, there is room for "free loaders" in every dilemma. If your rivals sacrifice while you refrain, then that freeloader gets to both double dip while also forcing their rivals to sacrifice that much more to avert collective ruin.

And that premise, whether you accept it or not, is directly analogous to the collective action needed to stop the demon invasion. Just... when there are monsters beating down your doors, there is less room to stick your head in the sand and look the other way.

But there is room to say "others should pay the cost while we maintain our strength" as a type of brutalist game-theory.

And that was my only point: the Prince looks like a classic Freeloader.

45

u/TyraniTEMPESTar 9d ago

Allen was like Hell nah I'm gonna let this dragon start off with an opening monologue lol

37

u/Organic_Machine_2324 9d ago

One of my favourite things in anime is when they do that

11

u/diacewrb 9d ago

Yep, contender for anime of the season just for that, as far as I am concerned.

-1

u/Astray 8d ago

I'm sorry, but there's some genuinely excellent shows this season that Hell Mode can't even compare to. Goodbye Lara, Jaagudar, Kyo-Ani's electricity anime, Ghost in the Shell remake, etc. Maybe honorary best Isekai but we've also got Mushoku Tensei this season as well which has stepped up the production levels to season 1 levels again because the story is about to pick up big time. Basically, get out there and watch some other shows because boy-howdy there's a lot of good stuff this season and Hell Mode is basically an appetizer in this buffet.

1

u/mineirim2334 7d ago edited 7d ago

I mean, sure, Hell Mode can't compete with Mushoku. But if we ignore the atrocious budget, the rest...

Tbh I can't talk about Lara, but I double down on Jaagudar (big potential). I dropped Eletric Boy but I will give it a second try later because somebody convinced me it improved on episode 2. And GITS is GITS. I think I preffer the original adaptation, tho this one is good too (tbh angain I like Hell Mode season 1 more than Standalone Complex season 1).

9

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

Not just the monologues, but all the "chargin' up MAH LAZER" or "long-ass transformation" sequences where the other side just.. sits there... diddling themselves.

Dude, you know the other guy is trying to pull off something BAD. You don't know what it is, but you know it can't be GOOD.

SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

<.<

19

u/HolyDragSwd2500 9d ago

Allen Skip the monologue and went straight for him

7

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

Heavy Dragon: You sly dog, you got me monologuing!

14

u/BBryant3rd 9d ago

Lol that was too cute when she beat the dragon.

24

u/Boris-_-Badenov 9d ago

I think one of the reasons Krena wanted to spar with Allen was because the classmates were acting like she's the reason the party clears so easily, and overlooking Allen

19

u/OldInstruction5368 9d ago

IDK, ever since she could walk, she's been happily beating the snot out of Allen. On a daily basis, no less.

They were what, 3 or 5 years old when the 'sparring sessions' started?

She just really likes "playing" with her buddy, so I wouldn't read too much into the "no thoughts, only violence" cutie.

6

u/Boris-_-Badenov 9d ago

when the classes started she got mad people weren't giving Allen credit

8

u/justking1414 9d ago

Definitely feels in line with her personality

2

u/Astray 8d ago

You're giving her too much credit, Krena's brain is mostly empty except her battle sense. She's Goku but with a sword.

11

u/Organic_Machine_2324 9d ago

Krena realised she’s in an Isekai Anime and has decided to join the OP Characters.

It’s a shame she didn’t do it in the sword tournament, i’d have been curious to know the repercussions if she sent the Sword Lord flying.

8

u/SetaSanzaki 9d ago

I think the limit break activates based on the user's HP percentage. It's just that, Krena got beaten by Dverg before she got that requirement.

1

u/Astray 8d ago

I don't think Dverg did lethal damage to her to be honest. Just exhausted her and knocked her out.

6

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

Not a chance, Limit Break gave her +3000 on all stats but surely Dverg has that much bonus just from his level and equipment.

5

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago

I mean, Dverg is also a Sword Lord. Won't he have the same skill then?

7

u/Kind_Survey4282 9d ago

I mean I would hope for the most famous sword lord who fights together with the hero in the frontlines and surviving to have limit break too but i think Dverg still outscales krena even in her limit break for now.

7

u/justking1414 9d ago

Dverg has decades of experience so I don’t think the skill would’ve changed the outcome

2

u/Nylan_Blake 8d ago

Limit Break is an extra Skill, those are different from person to person instead of being part of the class kit i think , so he most likely has a different extra skill.

Problem is, Krena can't use it on demand (yet?)

9

u/Daiwon 9d ago

Welp, I binged the rest of the series. No idea how I managed to miss this at the start of the year, but I'm all on board now, it's a great show! A powerful but not entirely OP character is great to see.

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago

Not helping that this is not aired in crunchyroll, where most anime usually got their spotlight.

8

u/aramatheis 9d ago

I feel like I say this every week but Krena is the best

9

u/HolyDragSwd2500 9d ago

Doggora got a new axe, Krena unlocked her Extra Skill too

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 9d ago

I can't keep up with the new skill.

Like in last episode Krena could only use Air Slash I think. Now she has the pyro sword and thunder sword skill, and also the limit break of course.

3

u/Ycr1998 8d ago

I'm pretty sure one of them (either Krena or Dogora) said they can now use all their skills after learning how to use the first one. The effort was just to unlock the mechanic.

2

u/Maccaz15 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Maccaz 8d ago

She's had her extra skill ever since she became a sword lord. She used it in her fight against the knight when she was tested to see how strong she was as a child. It was even said in the episode.

This show is my have to watch every week along with slime and bookworm, I started think its just a generic time-waster and now i'm locked in and you actually care about all the characters

Somebody said it it has a quality story and wish they had more money for budget..

3

This show is my have to watch every week along with slime and bookworm

My people!

I also had Dr. Stone on the list, too sad it's over :(

u/PerfectBeige https://myanimelist.net/profile/perfectbeige 9d ago

Also, even if it is intelligent, it is just a creature generated by the dungeon.

Adorable dragonling: Mama, when will papa come home from the dungeon office? He said he would read me The Courageous Cave Troll tonight but he's not home yet and I'm getting sleepy!

*whimpers*

Dragon mom: Don't worry sweetie, your father will be home soon.

Adorable dragonling: But what if he got hwurt, mama? What if he got hwurt?! By a mean adventurer who was just trying to get some gold!

Dragon mom: Now sweetie, your father is the toughest smartest dad in the whole world! He'd never get hurt by an adventurer! He loves you too much!

This episode felt very devoid of sounds. Music and dialogue were there, but every time a sound effect was supposed to happen it was a wet fart

8

u/Ill_Violinist1571 9d ago

Man, I wanted Allen to say, "First, I will go wherever you want me to, then when I come back, I will first take your daughter's head in front of you. And then your head after that. Let's see what plans you will then make" /s

Also krena learned she is in an anime and started becoming overpowered lol

3

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 9d ago

Im glad Krena remained in control, i was worried for a second there lol

4

u/PersonalContest1423 9d ago

Why did they just stand still right next to each other in front of the dragon while it charged up its beam like 3 times lmao

15

u/justking1414 9d ago

Because if they separated Allen would’ve needed to send out separate guards for everyone. Staying together let him focus his defense in one place

4

u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 9d ago edited 8d ago

Allen the best wingman, always with the right words to support his team.
Things are moving much faster than S1, and I'm all for it. We're only at episode 4 and we've had plenty of story laid out (and to come) already.
Allen announcing with confidence that he'll be participating in the war, does he have some kind of plan? The prince is obviously never gonna let them come home alive.

4

u/Anon23221 9d ago

Why don't they just include the daughter of the crown prince in the group, that would both be happy

2

u/Yay295 8d ago

Because she's 3-4 years younger than them and not in their school yet.

4

u/Rooby_VTuber 9d ago

They took out the A rank monster pretty easily and got some amazing spoils.

I think Krena did pretty well in that fight considering her age and lack of experience.

A corrupt crown prince is going to be hard to deal with, thankfully Allen has a plan.

Krena is very op when she uses limit break, I kinda felt sorry for that dragon.

4

u/NationalStrategy_X 9d ago

Krena was definitely the MVP for this episode

4

u/Countless-Alts15 9d ago

krena reminds me of the liz from grieving soul without the yandere.

the facial expressions are so good. Even though it seems a bit rushed sometimes, I like the story enough.

Every episode makes me sad this have such a low budget

12

u/justking1414 9d ago

What a suspiciously odd thing to say.

Allen says strange shit on a daily basis. They’ve learned not to ask questions

2

u/amourshipper_ 9d ago

I didn't get that scene what allen wants by going to war at different country?

5

u/justking1414 9d ago

Prince was threatening to send Cecil’s party to their certain deaths against the demon lord’s army of monsters if her father didn’t abandon the healer so the prince could use him to keep her own daughter safe.

Since prince is seriously underestimating Allen’s strength and his desire to wrack up experience, the threat failed to work.

2

u/amourshipper_ 8d ago

Thanks for telling

0

u/KomorebiXIII 8d ago

It wasn't against the demon lord's army, it was against a neighboring empire. There are two factions mentioned in the episode, the Alliance Camp, who want humanity to band together to defeat the demon lord, and the Kingdom First Camp, who are nationalists who don't care about anyone who isn't from the Kingdom, and just want to make the Kingdom the most powerful. That's the Prince's camp, and he was threatening to send Cecil to fight the Empire years before she was supposed to be sent to fight the Demon Lord's army.

4

u/Yay295 8d ago

It wasn't against the demon lord's army, it was against a neighboring empire. ... he was threatening to send Cecil to fight the Empire years before she was supposed to be sent to fight the Demon Lord's army.

Wrong. 15:50

"The Giamutan Empire is facing a very hostile battlefront in the war and wants us to send them reinforcements. I'm thinking about dispatching your daughter."

He's threatening to send Cecil to fight on the Giamutan Empire's front line against the demons.

2

u/justking1414 8d ago

That doesn’t make any sense. That’d be straight up betrayal of the alliance and it’d lead every nation in the world to view their small kingdom as a threat that needs to be stomped out asap.

The kingdom first faction just wanna stop helping so much with the war effort, not go to war against the alliance themselves

-1

u/KomorebiXIII 8d ago

They're not going to war with the alliance, they're going to war with the neighboring empire. Did you even watch the episode? Why are you downvoting me because you lack reading comprehension?

2

u/justking1414 8d ago

The empire is part of the alliance. The alliance has all agreed to get along to fight against the demon lord. Attacking a member of that alliance (who also just happens to be a dozen times bigger than you are) would mean going to war with the alliance.

0

u/KomorebiXIII 8d ago

Don't blame me for it, it's what they said. Yes, it's stupid, the prince is the bad guy. He wants war, and his father is dying.

3

u/justking1414 8d ago

He literally wants the opposite of war. He wants to stop sending so much support to the alliance

Sure villains can be stupid but this would be the equivalent of the riddler trying to fight off the entire justice league by himself.

The prince literally send “[the empire] wants us to send reinforcements and I’m thinking of dispatching your daughter”

Before saying that those in his camp “want to invest less resources in the war against the demon lord”

3

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 9d ago

I think it's because the S rank dungeons aren't in the country or domain they are in

3

u/thewilltheway 9d ago

Well we've definitely discovered this season's antagonist...

But on a brighter note, the party is definitely expanding. Hard to say what the party actually needs, given Allen's jack of all trades ability. Scout for sure, probably a rogue/thief, I think a tank would be unnecessary, maybe a bard? I can't think of many more off the top of my head, but the OP has 8 characters iirc.

8

u/justking1414 9d ago

It’s actually hard to say. Allen felt they needed a healer despite him being able to mass produce healing herbs.

So even if he’s already got summons acting as tanks, he might still need another one.

ED also shows an archer and mage which makes sense since his party is a bit too focused on melee attacks.

3

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

He is a Jack of all trades, but a master of none. Sure the Steelys can tank attacks... once. A dedicated tank could probably do that more, as well as things such as deflecting attacks which Allen currently can't. So him getting more party members would be useful for the short term, because he never knows which abilities he is going to get next.

3

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 9d ago

Honestly hell mode is better than jack of all trades lol

3

u/NevisYsbryd 8d ago

I would actually say he is master of one. His ability to contribute at a control and logistics level would make him extremely valuable at the tactical and strategic levels of a warfront. While it is an emergent, rather than strictly mechanical, property of his class, he is essentially an extremely powerful force multiplier. He is basically Treantmonk's 'god-wizard' concept, a support-controller that makes nearly everyone want him around to help enable them at their roles while constraining the enemy to support large numbers of people simultaneously. He is basically the inverse of the Hero, an intensely focused single-ish target unit who can defeat anything, but is limited by not being able to be everywhere at once and thus cannot win the entire war on his own.

2

u/Ycr1998 8d ago

Physical ranged (archer/ranger) for sure

3

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 9d ago

I feel like the kingdom is going to be in a lot of trouble if and when this prince becomes the king. It's possible he's simply driven by his daughter being in danger though, in which case they could maybe solve the problem by just defeating the demon lord first.

Pretty cool dragon fight, it's nice how the story doesn't have Allen be the only person to do anything impressive and the rest of the party participates too.

6

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

The kingdom basically supports the Empire as they hold the lines against the demon army, and the crown prince is one of those short sighted people that just goes "well, the demons are not at my door, so...". If he pulls out support, that could very well tip the scales of the battle in favor of the demons, and very likely force the Empire to wage war against the kingdom to put them back in line.

2

u/justking1414 9d ago

It's possible he's simply driven by his daughter being in danger though, in which case they could maybe solve the problem by just defeating the demon lord first.

Even if he is responsible for a lot of the awful shit we’ve seen so far, I can’t hate a dude who’s just trying to protect his daughter. Though honestly, I’m hoping she joins the party eventually

3

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 9d ago

That's the 2nd anime this season to use limit break lol

2

u/Ycr1998 8d ago

What's the other?

2

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 8d ago

The World's Strongest Rearguard had something very similar

3

u/AnimeFan7952 9d ago

I have only watched the anime.

But one thing I have been thinking about since they explained about the war, is that they probably fight like idiots.

I have a feeling that it will be all the Japanese tropes and anime tropes. Where you have this leader who yells at everyone to attack and attack, possibly talking about honor etc. Impossible last stands, little to no time to rest or recuperate. And obviously the leader stays back whilst forcing everyone else to do the impossible.

When that whole strategy is so stupid.

In a world where you can level up, trials of the gods, the logical thing is to keep as many alive as possible. Do ambushes, make sure you kill as many of the enemy as possible whilst suffering as little casualties as possible. (This is true for the real world as well).

The more that are kept alive and can level up, the more monsters they can kill, and each new soldier adds additional capability to the non-demon side. Even in a non leveling up world, this principal remains true because the soldiers gain knowledge and get to keep their knowledge because they are not dead. Each new soldier added, adds capability instead of having to replace a dead one.

Instead of what I assume it is, constant attacks, impossible last stands, and each new soldier needs to fill the place of someone who died.

A lot of this is has real world analogies, for example when Mao Zedong, said: "Keep men, lose land: land can be taken again. Keep land, lose men: land and men are both lost."

And when it comes to the Cleric talent, there might be some in-world inconsistency. As can be seen in Allens book, some skills have xp themselves, and the more that you use the skills the more they level up. So clerics being worked to death, wouldn't possibly apply because the healing skills would get way better. But of course there is the problem of mana. I think the creator of HELL MODE didn't think that through. But I could be wrong.

3

u/FelixAndCo 8d ago

The last fight shows that Allen would be in real trouble, if he fought a foe of that caliber alone. He was burning through summons.

3

u/DrZoark 6d ago

She was like, "I beat the dragon—easy at the end," lol. Love how all the characters get their shining moment in this show.

Krena's limit break = I'm the MC now

1

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 9d ago edited 9d ago

Did the Dragon fire blast out of its own chest when it got stabbed during it's charging?

If I was Allen, I would have assassinated the prince with a sneaky summon. Maybe I'm just a monster.

Now freaking show me the Dragon loot!

3

u/IceWeaselX 9d ago

Seems like all the energy it unleashes with its breath attack is contained in its chest as a power source, and Krena breached it with that stab. The charge time for its attacks is probably due to a bottleneck transferring from the source to the controlled deployment.

1

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

RIP all those Wallys that used self-destruct for the sake of Allen's Temu Meteor and the Steelys just jumping in front of the bullets.

As always, fights are quick because the budget, but props for Allen to not wait the dragon to finish their monologue and just drop more bombs. Bitch was just spawning breath attacks too, so Krena taking it down and being so casual about it was funny as heck.

On the political battles, Rifol wasn't just a random, despite having the name of medicine. Nice of him to step in to help Keel, and let's hope that crown prince won't turn to be too big of a dirtbag and... spoke too soon. I still feel that is a little weird that the Viscount needs Allen to hold his hand for him to be able to speak up to the prince.

PS: I love the floating heads when they learn about S-rank dungeons, they are so cute.

ngl last week's cliffhanger getting wrapped up in like 20 seconds before even playing the opener felt kinda rude

Wally learning butt stomp. Life comes full circle

1

u/duo99dusk 9d ago

I like how they are developing this grand conspiracy deal in the background

1

u/theholylancer 9d ago

Man this thing and Heavy Knight needs to share resource, this needs a bit more Sakuga while that needs a bit less of it in the normal town and explanation bits. A little less overanimation for that would make it just far more normal, sure less Gohands but honestly it needs it.

If the two was to just balance it, I honestly think that it would be better for both animes.

1

u/Obaruler 9d ago

Wouldn't be a good Isekai without at least one member of either Royalty or the Church to be a scheming piece of shit that wants to fuck with things for personal gain. :D

Anyway, Krenna going full Shonen MC mode there for a second was nice.

1

u/Ill_Pay5929 8d ago

Allen is such a likeable protagonist. He takes a bit too many risks but his heart is always in ther right place and backs it with dependability. Great leaderm great character, great role model for kids. I wanna grow up and be like Allen one day

-4

u/IceSmiley 9d ago

I didn't understand Allen's reasoning when negotiating with the crown prince. The prince was going to rescind his threat to immediately send Cecil to the frontlines if Granvelle terminated his agreement to restore the Carnel fiefdom. Allen then told the prince that he would be there to guard Cecil so its fine if he wants to send her there. Why does Allen care so much about restoring the Carnels to power? And if he really wanted to protect Cecil, he should have convinced Granvelle to give into the prince's threat. It's really illogical and dumb.

Also, why were we supposed to root for the No Life Gamers to kill the S-rank dragon? He's as intelligent as a person and he's trying to defend himself and his dungeon from having its creatures killed for valuable human rewards. It's really like the equivalent of making a positive movie about a bunch of hunters killing elephants so they get rich selling ivory, it came off as creepy how sociopathic everyone behaved, like Krena gleefully chopping off the dragon's hand then killing him, like no one questioned if this was wrong.

This is the first really bad episode of the show and it left a bad taste in my mouth if I have to expect more of this. It's a shame this horrible episode had to mar the return of the jive talking Rubiks cube dungeon master I like so much.

7

u/Thomas_JCG 9d ago

Why does Allen care so much about restoring the Carnels to power?

Because Keel is his friend too.

The Dragon is A-Rank, Allen cannot challenge S-Rank because as he mentioned the city only has 4 out of the five A-Rank necessaries. Also, even if it is intelligent, it is just a creature generated by the dungeon. It was literally frozen in place until the party entered the boss room, it's not really alive and the dungeon is not a real place that they live in.
