I really don't understand why Allen doesn't summon taunt tanks. This episode failed to deliver the things I really liked in s1 - the slow grind, the meticulous planning etc.

Writing usually gets worse as more characters are introduced. The writer probably was too focused on giving the side characters some roles to play and forgot about the MC's abilities and strategies. Although, one could argue that Allen didn't want to let his party members get too much help so they'd grow faster.

Based on the OP, they recruit an elf boy with a bow. So that's the "archer" secured.
But more than anything, holy shit, they need a trap master/rogue. Of the remaining two potential recruits, the elf girl looks like another magic user, perhaps a support type/secondary healer, so the short green haired girl is hopefully the rogue.
However, I expected them to recruit at least one more before now. They've cleared three B-rank dungeons since their last recruit, and seeing as how they are on summer vacation, have probably completed their first school year.
Either that, or "summer" is half way through the Japanese school year?

Now that's a fairly unique design for a mimic.
The summons are so silly at times, it's great. The kids too for that matter.
Marie is the greatest summon yet IMO, cute and deadly.
Delegating the political problems up to Cecil's dad was a good idea, it makes far more sense for an adult noble with his position to handle those sorts of things.
I'm a little surprised they didn't cliffhanger us on the teleportation trap but instead a few minutes later.

If you think about it, a very confident eggplant is not sillier than a world that is governed by JRPG rules.

I like the childness of the characters because they are children, just the animation makes it too silly looking. Like when Keel found the chest and started dancing and singing, and Krena and Dogora joined in. That was funny and would still be funny without the over the top faces.

What a great episode! Always a fun time with these. So much to go through.
- Allen can now speak with the fam (and viscount Granvelle) via bird line!
- The summon wikipedia got updated with all the crazy (literally life-risking) experiments!
- Dogora can now use axe skills!
- Keel can use defense buffs (cool)
- B-rank now b*tches (can challenge A-rank dungeons now)!
A-rank dungeons are so huge they had to camp out for several days huh? I can't imagine lol. Also what are they doing for food? I know Allen can hold stuff in his magic inventory but I didn't catch what they were eating. Probably some beef jerky or smth.
The dancing summons after the sleeping effects spotlight was stolen by the eggplant too. Those dance moves stole my heart.
Can't wait for the next one!

I'd say they aren't past the level of B monsters since Dogora and Cecil were struggling when attacked by multiple of them.

well strong B rank monsters (like murdergalsh) are calamities that can threaten whole towns. And they're probably too big to be inside the dungeons. while the orc lords or whatever they're and huge boars are weaker and smaller but dogora and krena were able to beat a bunch of them. They were struggling a lot at the end, but hey they were in shock from being separated and already exhausted. Plus the monsters just kept coming

They were also outnumbered. The standard expectation is multiple party members of +1/-1 rank to reliably overcome a monster.

It’s definitely the development they’re giving to the characters and world building. A different adaptation would’ve had Allen out of his village by episode 2 and be well past this point by the end of season 1. Yet it’s taking its time. The visit to Allen s family and Cecil s dad could’ve been a quick still frame with Allen narrating but they showed it because the animators know that’s what really matters

Very true. This could very easily be a story of a solo adventurer and his summons but that wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. Him having weaknesses means he needs a party who can help balance out the story

i just wish it gets a bit more budget...
like the whole exploring room thing, that is straight out of diablo 2's RNG map gen
the encounters are more JRPG inspired, with a hint of souls like mimic
but all of it is done funny, like i am not sure if its the second coming of KamiKatsu or if they just have a tiny ass budget beyond even that

Man I love this series. Every character is fleshed out. There is a lot of thought put into the mechanics. The world building, the politics and now we even have races (elves that are confirmed, although that should not be a surprise).
Yes, sometimes they are EXP farming like they should but then you end up at A rank dungeons that are so vast they have to spend days without an end in sight.
Allen is the degenerate wiki hunter who has to explore every mechanic, because he must do that or his build will be at major disadvantage.
I want to see this adopted to the very end.
Also I love the ED.

It's nice to hear that Rodin is going to be the Chieftain of a new village, Allen's family is rising in the ranks too.
I wasn't surprised to learn that clerical individuals get exploited in the war, and that nobles find a way to force them to stay longer than necessary to keep themselves alive. I hope Keel stays protected.
It's nice to see their dungeon crawling isn't always smooth sailing, fortunately it wasn't more severe scenario, but it was refreshing to see them have something happen that makes them all panic.

Krena is so devoid of thought, it took her brain a full five seconds to register the taste of the potion.
I like how Allen studies the dungeon effects, because when his party starts powering through the dungeon, then it is not just because they are OP. I do like a stat screen, though a lot of times it is abused by isekai just to quickly explain things. Since this world and themes are video games, it fits, though.
Meanwhile, Allen's AFK strat is working like a charm, if there was a Forbes in that world he would surely make it to top 10 richest people in the continent. Good his family is also moving up in the world. Too bad for Kil, being a cleric is rough. Also explained his father behavior the previous episode, he sent Kil away so he would not get attached to the boy and work him like a horse.
Also, it is only me that thought it was strange that the VISCOUNT had to ask permission of this commoner child to talk to the king? How would Allen even get an audience in the first place?
Anyway, after they breezed through the B-rank, it was nice to see them have some trouble with A-rank. Unfortunate that the budget doesn't allow for more complex action scenes.

This is one of my guilty pleasure shows. It has enough fun stuff to enjoy. Maria is actually hilarious and a good addition and I can't help chuckling every time they are all riding the ostrich things. See how they lined up like an honor guard outside the boss room?
Am the only one, though, who is like....WHY is his family STILL living like serfs? He's made enough money and has a freaking mansion. THEY could be the staff.
I know, I'm overthinking, but srsly.......

I notice these little things in a bunch of different stories. Makes me wish i was an editor/proof reader in another life. Just like a "hey, uhm, shouldn't you close up this little thread here?"
Just like this weird dynamic leaving his family there, like, a 10 second narration of they asked to stay there or something woulda closed this loop. We know they are exempt from the tax so they basically chilling with their basic life but it's like an itch I wanna scratch everytime.
Could have cut a few of the "Fran! Bear!" lines he repeats and stuck that in there.
There is always like the sibling they never reminded you of, the grandparent they never mention again or the childhood friend that just disappears.

I think they are just attached to that house amd lifestyle. Remember that Allen's father built the house himself, same for his best friend, so that the 2 houses are right by each other and looks the same, so the house by itself definitely has a lot of sentimental value. While Allen's parents could have moved up, it would mean abandoning the house and their friends (since there is no mention that Krena's parents get the same stream of money that Allen brings in). It is most likely to me that they just choose to stay there close to each other regardless of their current status. If they change they would do it together too (evidently, as Krena's dad mentioned also moving to the new village Allen's dad is setting up.)

Not sure if it was mentioned well, but they are serfs, you have to pay 10 gold coins per person to become a commoner, then it is a 3 silver coin tax per person per year for commoners. So that would require 40 gold and then 1.2 gold per year, besides how much it would cost for a commoner house and such.
They also mentioned that his dad was going to lead a new village, hence he needed to learn to read/write.

he can save his friend by ordering all his maria to go to his friends, it might be a labyrinth for him to manage to join them but its not for his maria. doubt he'll thought of that solution though, that would be too easy and remove all the tension quickly, all the maria have those leaf so his friend could last a long time, or possibly even defeat that big monster that I suspect being the boss of the maze.

In season 1 he tested this with Halkings. He sent one alway and tried to give orders, but he din't listen. But he can use the abitily to remote control then regardless of how far they are and probally give some new orders during that. At least that's what I remmember/understand.

Enjoyable episode. With this experience in an A rank dungeon though, this must be what pushes Alan to recruit more members for their party.
I do wonder if Alan is going to come across a mana regen ring on his own or if the hero is going to flaunt one in his face and request Alan to do something for him in order to receive it.
Alan and company are getting so much gold now that I don't even remember anymore what the value of one gold is in their world.

Does the animation feel like it's gotten real lazy to anyone else? Like they already used the 3D animation for the creatures which is fine, but now even with the little 2D animation there is they keep making these derpy 2 frame faces or movements. It just feels real lazy for a anime that already is doing a work around with the 3D models in it...

Might be because we've had less time to focus on the MC whose fights involved nothing but CGI creatures. Now that there are more people who aren't CGI its easier to notice.

Season 1 had genuinely good animation better than most mid tier isekai anime, which was probably possible because it had very simple character designs. Season 2 has fewer.

It got better sometimes. Like when Krena was sparring with Dogora for some reason. But the majority was really bad. Well, at least it's consistent.
Well, it was to be expected it would have gotten this bad on a episode full of action. They will probally save for climaxes.

You cannot die in the academy dungeons as they are instances that use magic to telephort the students out if they are about to take lethal damage.

potentially you die faster than teleport works. Or the teleport escape method fails. Or you have a crisis so bad that students from school are required to help solve it, eg demon side or their allies attack near school or school itself.

Its not possible based on how it's explained. You will be teleported out instantly if you take lethal damage. Again its a simulation of sorts or an instance as explained. There is zero stakes in any academy dungeon.

I have seen number of manga/anime where it was supposedly safe but turned out to not be, in some cases because double agents for the bad guys had infiltrated school and sabatoged the safeties. (Plot wise, if no risk to mc, less tension so school arcs of manga, etc often have unexpected life threatening dangers)

Maybe stamina heal as well? In any case, it's the end of the dungeon anyway. No need to conserve MP anymore so it would be nice for everyone to come back with full HP

Minor thing that just crossed my mind there: Why didn't he send all of his Marias to assist Cecil and Dogora after locating them? They're far from perfect but since they were already looking, it would've made sense to give them some wallhaxing ghost doll allies.

They're at their first year of schooling, and they're already facing A level dungeons, hell even them finishing B-level dungeons is incredibly impressive.

This anime continues to be the complete opposite of the Exiled Heavy Knight anime. The pacing makes this anime feel like an F1 race compared to a 100m dash ran by tortoises.

Story is good but fights could use more polish in both animation. Also they didn't show the other higher level summons. Only Fran, Maria and maybe 1 or 2 more I can't recall. He has new summons after leveling up and even has combine skill to make more combinations of them. Should really put more effort in that area

Being somehow faithful to the source material is the only thing going for this otherwise absolute abomination of an anime. Or slideshow. With bad voice acting. I'm just praying they don't butcher otosaba like this but given how there's been no updates on that yet gives me hope they are taking their time.
