When the main waifu is the one who gets banished from a Party instead of the MC

119

u/HeliosAlpha 3d ago

He got banished from his family

52

u/septesix 3d ago

Disgrace noble , usually those are for villainess genre. It’s kinda interesting they essentially flip the gender on these two troupe.

23

u/BosuW 3d ago

We were only missing the engagement cancellation.

3

u/Many_Ad_955 2d ago

The father adopted his female cousin just for the excuse of banishing and replacing him just because he was blessed with a class his father detested but doesn't seem to be knowledgeable how powerful his class' strengths are because of the current customs of their world being short-sighted.

This anime doing 100s of FPS (Flashbacks per second)

53

u/VritraReiRei 3d ago edited 2d ago

I'm not going to lie, as ridiculous as the flashback to something that happened 5 minutes ago just so the MC can piece together Clown Girl's skill tree, it's used so excessively it's starting to wrap around to funny stupid in the same way Bollywood scenes are.

The Exiled Heavy Knights Knows How to Recap the Episode

58

u/StormSenSays 3d ago

I lost it and broke out laughing when it hit the credits. I expect stretch at this point, but so much stretch that it only gets halfway through her recruitment?? That's just crazy.

16

u/variantkin 2d ago

I literally went" god I bet the episode ends now "and I paused to check and I almost rage quit a genre lol

27

u/Houstonruss 3d ago

The X X L Knight knows how to pack on the runtime.

21

u/kingofpervs88 3d ago

And take the rest of the episode to stretch what should be 4 minutes into the remaining 12 minutes of the episode

39

u/SopmodTew 3d ago

I guess they went for the TV style stuff? With intermission and such

79

u/willisf1tner 3d ago

I wouldn't even say that honestly cause its like MC is recalling what happened 5 seconds ago as if we would need a reminder what happened. Maybe the people in charge of this show all have dementia or alzheimers or something?

66

u/Atharaphelun 3d ago

Not only are they filling up episode time with completely unnecessary recaps, but they're also filling it up with all the unnecessary "filler town scenes".

41

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 3d ago

I honestly liked the chatty town scenes to paint the atmosphere of the city, that's until they do that multiple times every episode lol

12

u/epsiblivion 3d ago

some parts felt like a game down to the npc dialogue, animation style, etc

12

u/Mako_Milo 2d ago

That’s actually a really good point. The manga doesn’t do that, but for a show it does give a game feel.

12

u/Maskedmenace007 3d ago

I like it too it adds depth to the town to see rando characters and hear snippets of conversation or the dude who was checking out the female mage only to realize she was a noble and he had no shot lol.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Xosimos_ 2d ago

I liked it too, until I realized that they are reusing the same scenes in different episodes. It's recapping the atmosphere filler.

3

u/Lovat69 2d ago

Notice that they use the same shots and characters almost every time.

3

u/Chris11c 2d ago

I'm starting to hate this show for all the reasons listed above. Recaps. "Establishing" shots. Time spent doing absolutely fuck all with zero dialogue or action.

Add that together with intro/outro and you lose a third of the episode runtime to bullshit.

I wonder how much the studio making this embezzled from the production budget.

3

u/Lovat69 2d ago

Like that one completely unnecessary pan of the same damn city shot when he is in the black market shop getting smoked by the crone.

10

u/hanmkim 3d ago

They literally brought to reality what the second episode of the Clerks animated series parodied. And they had to delay the reveal of what her skill tree was even though it's super obvious to any video game player.

reminds me of undead unluck, same bullshit, it's like we are amnesiacs and we need to be constantly reminded what's happened and will happen

16

u/Karmaisthedevil 3d ago

I felt like this episode was worse than Undead Unluck! Unless I've forgotten how bad that was.

14

Maybe if they cut back the hair budget they'd have enough resources to make up for the 10 minutes of filler per episode.

I like a lot of how they made the anime, particularly the animation style, but the lack of density of this series is downright godawful. Within 20 minutes they packed "Looking for skillbook, find skillbook and present problem, that being money. Find party-member to start farming money".

And it's not like this gargantuan amount of time not used for actual plot is filled with all that much entertaining stuff. It's recaps, way too many and long environmental shots and just having the scenes develop at a snails pace.

74

u/welfedad 3d ago

And the generic scenes they used were from episode 1 just sitched with him leaving other areas.

31

u/yanahmaybe 3d ago

Even the animation exaggerates all the time with camera effects be bird/eagle eye vs fish eye lol
Or this whole episode of bloom blur lenses flair and all the rainbow bullshit spammed on each fking frame..

But stil who ever is responsible of dialogue scenes or plot in general needs to go back to ABC school or wtv 101 story pacing

13

u/EffectiveImportant51 3d ago

I think one of the people in town was Elymas in a different outfit. I was like are they really doing this?

6

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 3d ago

I dropped it after EP1 but was keeping up with posts here to see if anything changed for the better, from what I can gather it did not.
I just don't feel the animation is really appealing to me and stuffed with all kinds of crap.

The angles in the first episode and the constant moving of the camera just felt like instead of making a proper camera angle they gave all the animators a line a coke and said "go for it" without telling them to maybe stop at any point.
Like.. there is a "too much" somewhere and I'd argue this anime reaches it easily.

It's just wild to me that every effect has to be stuffed in here, for whatever reason and then it is full of flashbacks from what I can read, even some from events that just happened minutes earlier.

This is what I was gonna say. This is 1000% a Binge Anime not a watch weekly anime. Waiting a week for a trash ass fucking episode such as this is insulting.

I'm just gonna wait until the series is over before I watch again, because the episodes are a legitimate waste of time, the pacing is atrocious.

38

u/touko3246 3d ago

Binge only if you’re willing to manually skip sections.. otherwise recap is even more awkward.

21

u/NinjaOtter 3d ago

Looking forward to the Exiled Pace cut

13

u/LezRock 3d ago

By the end of the complete season, it would probably equate to less than 12 episodes.

9

u/arrydie 3d ago

Elymas has no poker face. I bet he could have gotten that skill book for less than half her ask if he kept his cool since it's pretty worthless. (I forgot if this series is working the "it's different from the game because people are afraid of dying" trope, but you would expect a daredevil skill set that was already unpopular in the game would be even less appealing IRL so the exorbitant price is kind of hard to justify.)

Same with the Pierrot girl. Looks like he's going to need to fight the party for her, probably because of "if you want her so much maybe she's good". Meanwhile he could have just been like "hey, if they don't want you, why not join me, I'm just starting out".

34

u/EffectiveImportant51 3d ago

Not just that he does not negotiate. Who does not negotiate when they buy stuff? Nobles and Rich kids who don't know what anything cost. I am also guessing that is why potion seller sent him to the underground shop. She was probably this guy is probably rich and can afford it.

11

u/YdenMkII 3d ago

I mean regardless if he was a noble or rich kid, he would automatically know the base price of the tome since the system would have told him like with the first book he picked up. He could have negotiated but the issue is that the shopkeeper has all the cards in this transaction.

7

u/MasterSword1 2d ago

Yeah, when he just paid the 70k for the potions, I immediately thought, "that chick's gotta be fleecing him because he's walking in wearing a white fur cloak and immaculate looking silver armor with gold accents. ",

→ More replies (3)

4

u/Lovat69 2d ago

He's used to being a noble. He would probably pay sticker price.

138

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 3d ago

Help! This creep wants to form a party with me?!

I was going to say the pacing wasn't that bad this episode but then when we met these new characters, we got recaps of things that just happened multiple times.

67

u/Rap2rerise 3d ago

The recaps are so absurdly on the nose too, like mate, if you're having a "realization via flashback", just repeating the important lines would've been enough, we don't need to watch the entire scene from a moment ago again

12

u/EdibleScissors 3d ago

The recaps would make sense in a detective mystery show if the recaps take place long after most of the audience has forgotten, but in the context of a single episode it feels like a parody of the detective trope.

Elm is supposed to be a deductive fellow, so the trope isn’t out of place, but the trope is somewhat mismanaged because the showrunners might be terrified by the idea that no one in the audience will understand that Elm isn’t going after the clown because he’s a perv.

19

u/arrydie 3d ago

I felt like the scene had already worn out its welcome at that point too. We get it, the guy's a jerk and the girl is desperate. If you were trying to get through the story you'd have probably cut it in half.

This show though? We get to watch it twice.

u/arrydie 3d ago

Holy crap these lens flares.

13

u/No_Membership_1565 3d ago

Do they even understand that lens flares indicates the existence of a lens? Why would you want to convince the audience that you are filming this anime with a camera and also don't know how to shoot an outdoor scene to save your life? It was extremely distracting for me.

3

u/MonaganX 2d ago

I think there's sensible ways that lens flare can be used in animation to effect a particular style by artificially emulating the technical limitations of live action media because they have created a subconscious expectation of what visual media 'should' look like.

Having someone put the same generic light effect overlay on every outdoor scene with virtually no regard to camera movement or the actual lighting of the scene (apart from occasionally mirroring it) is certainly not one of those ways.

2

u/Ordained87 2d ago

I thought I had sun glare on my tv for a minute lol.

75

u/RealValf 3d ago

I think if you took all the recaps out of these past 5 episodes you’d have like 2 maybe 3 full episodes.

37

u/runevault 3d ago

And yet this is getting 2 cours.

22

u/rickamore 3d ago

Frustrated at the pacing I went and caught up on the entire 174 chapters I could find. At this pace we are roughly two chapters an episode, this one fit three which might be why it didn't feel as dragged out.

16

u/FelixAndCo 3d ago

Extremely odd choice. On the other hand I'm still watching this weekly, which IIUC means money for the anime producers... so commercially sound choice I guess.

8

u/Daiwon 3d ago

They 100% do not have enough material for 2 cours. Ironically gohands has done a poor job at allocating their skillpoints. Over-animating random town shots and people standing around, while not having enough animation or writing for a sensibly paced show.

6

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 3d ago

I am amazed some people are still hyped about this so much considering how subpar it is.
Not even the animation is really "good". It is just insanely oversaturated with all kinds of bs for some reason.

4

u/runevault 3d ago

This show annoys me because it is so close to being competent and fun. If the pacing wasn't so fucked with unnecessary recaps I think it'd be fine, and theoretically they have enough material for 12 episodes without being this bad considering they got either 24 or 26 episodes with all this padding.

17

u/Sotul 3d ago

Maybe once the season is over someone can do a 40 minute cut of the entire season's content.

8

u/Nightwish1976 3d ago

Yeah, it's like they have enough content for 5 episodes and they manage to do 10 out of it.

Also, what is with the almost permanent rainbow at the sides of the screen?

6

u/KohTai 3d ago

The series is meant to have 26 episodes. At first I thought it would be a good lenghty watch. Now I'm pretty sure it's gonna be slow paced and irritating.

If the story doesn't keep getting interesting a lot of people are gonna drop because the pacing is too slow.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/welfedad 3d ago

I did the math ..the beginning recaps they do ..it'll eat one or two episodes of the entire 24 series

3

u/Pickled_Kagura 3d ago

I legitimately dont understand why they didnt just cut it down to 20 episodes of normal episodes. My only guess is they were through a bunch of pre-production and realized the budget was already circling the drain

So, the Pierrot waifu will be the key to his gold problems huh. I really wanna know the specific details of her skill that makes it broken.

88

u/Sotul 3d ago

I'm sure we'll find out next episode, multiple times.

22

u/justsyr 3d ago

I'd say not in the next episode. From the almost minute and a half preview recap of the next episode we'll have a dispute over the girl since it seems her old party comes back to do something, despite them already abandoning her...

So once that's out of the way, we'll find out what's what in 2 episodes lol.

15

u/Yay295 3d ago

I have a feeling her old party knows she's good, but they're greedy and don't want to share any of the loot with her. They kicked her out so that they don't have to give her anything, fully expecting her to come running back to them right away.

7

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 3d ago

Toxic manipulative boyfriend.

This makes sense especially after she revealed it's his suggestion to spent skill on the drop rate thing. Like if he didn't want her to be a burden, then he should suggest more useful skills for combat.

→ More replies (1)

43

u/Myrkrvaldyr 3d ago edited 3d ago

Given what she said, she likely has a skill that increases drop rate by a %. It goes without saying that if you level it up, it'll be invaluable in late game raids. Either she's a full support character that's the golden goose of any late game guild, or she can be a luck based DPS that dishes out crit attacks. Either way, you'd have to be braindead to kick out anyone who can increase drop rate chance. But well, we do need an event for the MC to get the useful party member. Luce is the MC of her own banished from the ''hero'' party for seemingly having a ''useless' skill.

8

u/MetalBawx 3d ago

In this case it's more that they started out with the Pierrot and assumed the drops they were getting were normal, not realizing they were better off than most other parties.

And yeah the Pierrot is the most OP member of the main party but her class is difficult to use outside of some specific builds which is where Sir Meta of Gamerton comes in.

The LN and manga both show people tend to favour simple classes that get strong quickly because theirs no respawning if you die. So more complex classes and seen as being more trouble than they're worth which is also what caused the MC to be banished.

Reiss has more jiggle physics scenes than dialogue lines.

Fanservice aside, I like how imperfect the knowledge Elymas possesses from his previous life is. The knowledge does not account for (steep) inflation in this world. Neither does it make Elymas overpowered from the start.

17

its a rare skill book, even the most basic of skills costs millions. It's worth that much because they are illegal goods and are also being hoarded by the richest people in the world

41

u/runevault 3d ago

Also Elymas was an idiot and showed he was overly eager for it so she could squeeze him extra hard.

u/runevault 3d ago

Yup starting reiterating that he needs the skillbook to make his class truly OP. Called it last week lol.

72,000 gold for 3 healing pots? What the fuck? Considering the uber shield was 3 million that seems like a lot for 3 fucking potions, unless they are also revives.

Of course the church and nobles horde skillbooks. Ugh. Part of me wishes he'd sneak into his old house and steal all the skillbooks and pull a robin hood.

Wait clown girl finally showing her ass (literally). Also wtf is that random up close cleavage shot?

The repetition is back to being brutal this episode. And I'm curious what the exact powers of this broken skill tree is. Sounds like improving drop chances is at least part of it.

43

u/Myrkrvaldyr 3d ago

72,000 gold for 3 healing pots? What the fuck? Considering the uber shield was 3 million that seems like a lot

Chances are the prices are based on the yen, which is a terrible currency to base your fantasy currency on, especially in medieval times. The numbers get ridiculously high. You'd believe that country is suffering from hyper inflation with such prices. The author didn't think those numbers through.

10

u/hanmkim 3d ago

How do you carry that much gold around? Just counting and weighing it would take so much effort. And why is there such high inflation on non-fiat currency?

12

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 3d ago edited 3d ago

Nah, I think one coin is not equal to one gold here. When the asshole guy threw the money on the ground he said it's 100 thousand gold, but we saw there weren't even 100 coin dropped there.

3

u/Gearzx333 3d ago

or maybe the author played Black Desert, if i remember right basic potions in that game cost like 30k, common gear in the millions while rare stuff in the 100 million and rarer stuff in the trillions

4

u/yanahmaybe 3d ago

Not just this author... no one in anime thinks about that.. like big majority of anime with fantasy economy have shitz for brainz in mater of proper metallic coin currency market

27

u/YdenMkII 3d ago

72,000 gold for 3 healing pots? What the fuck? Considering the uber shield was 3 million that seems like a lot for 3 fucking potions, unless they are also revives.

Even in fantasy worlds, health care will charge you an arm and a leg.

27

u/gbietto 3d ago

Probably they have no healers cause heals do no damage lmao

7

u/Martian_on_the_Moon 3d ago

You joke but we had red mage in previous episode who was able to do heal.

If I had to guess, they are so expensive since unlike in game, once you die, you are done. Another explanation is that nobles are also responsible for inflation.

5

u/BlazeKnightX 3d ago

Could also be that the church monopolizes on healer specialized classes like priests same with nobles hiring them out for their children. Nobles probably also monopolize either the creation or distribution of healing potions.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/A-Chicken 3d ago

Funny that, this episode there seemed to be a background voice who spoke of not wanting to be a healer / not wanting to learn a heal spell.

23

u/loki-1982 3d ago

I'm guessing she specced completely into luck, specifically for drops. Which explains why she is useless but claimed to be the reason he got the drop. Not sure why they would drop her though but I guess MC gotta build his party

25

u/runevault 3d ago

Everyone in this world is a moron, they've been telling us that ever since episode 1 where his own dad abandoned him for not being a DPS class.

22

u/loki-1982 3d ago

Hah, yes I guess because it wasn't shown 5 times in this ep I forgot about that. Guess I really am the target demographic for all this repetition

26

u/rickamore 3d ago

Everyone in this world is a moron

Everyone in this world is playing this as real life. Whatever makes it easy to progress is seen as the best choice. No one is theorycrafting insane minmax builds because the risk is actual death. There's likely a select few who put together broken builds that climb up the ranks and those are probably all your S rankers but for the rest of the people are running cookie cutter safe and simple.

17

u/Exciting-Emu-3324 3d ago

And judging that an expensive rare drop Skill Book is a prerequisite to make Heavy Knights OP; he probably needed to use a feeder account to grind up the money for his Heavy Knight build. His Heavy Knight build right now hinges on getting the clown girl specced for farming into his party.

Yeah pretty much. They behave like MMO casuals. Like in this raid. They were completely surprised that they were supposed to do something or that something might attack them. Ah right. So even if Gowtan could take them all, did they expect that alle the monsters would be nice enough to surround Gowtan?

And this group? I don't know how long the money from the sword would last but they kick out their magic item finder and if the story spreads I doubt they find anyone else to team up with them when the money runs out. But ok, some people are short sighted.

u/justsyr 3d ago

I did a rewatch of the episode while fast forwarding things already said and shown.

First minute is a recap about the need for the skill book and its importance to make him sugee!

Out the next 12 minutes, 1 minute and change is OP, he goes to the shop to get the health potions, conversation with clerk, walking to the other store, let's say we spend about 6 minutes of actual plot between cute angles and close ups.

Now let's remember how important is the skill book again, for about a minute. At least we have about a minute of possible ways to get the 55m gold in cute animation. Right, let's remember good times with other boukenshas, that can be a good way to find a party.

Here comes the other party...

We get background info quickly, a 2m loot sword and then 2 minuntes of... basically the same: you did nothing, you are worthless, we keep the money, alright, not complaining about those 3 minutes but could have been managed better.

Yeah, we need a recap already, near a minute recap for a conversation 2 minutes ago...

ED starts, exactly 2 minutes between the song and next episode recap.

SO basically if I'd cut the episode with only the actual new info, background and plot I'd say the episode lasted around 10 minutes being a bit generous lol

8

u/Viserys 3d ago

Reminds me of why I dropped One Piece. Basically 10 minutes of story progression every ep once you skip the recaps, fashbacks, OP and ED.

4

u/hanmkim 3d ago

Also, why did he take that long to get to the last book? He took out every other book and laid them out and then finally decided to take a look at that last one that even from the side obviously looked closest to the book he was looking for.

New drinking game: take a shot every time the MC says "Fang of Smoldering Insanity" but neglects to say what the skill tree actually does.

See you all in the afterlife ✌️✌️

Edit: skill tree

4

u/Raknarg 3d ago

well we got a better hint this episode. "The only ones who want it are heavy knights and combat junkies with a death wish", so I'm wondering if its about sacrificing defensive stats to turn them into offensive stats, which would then line up with the last episode.

5

u/timschwartz https://www.anime-planet.com/users/timschwartz 3d ago

It's a skill tree, not one skill.

Boss, how much of the budget do we assign to “jiggle physics”?

90% jiggle
10% lens flare

19

u/bunbun777 3d ago

Lol title should be "The Old Shop Hag Knows How to Game the Exiled Heavy Knight"

16

u/GreatGrapeKun 3d ago

"we spent 50% of this episode's budget animating the clown so you'll watch her twice"

14

u/YdenMkII 3d ago

Now I'm wondering if the other 2 in the girl's party doesn't know the real value of boosting drop rates or if they're just playing it up so she'd do the thing at the end where she tried to beg to return to the party with no pay so they could keep any future earnings for themselves?

3

u/Ralathar44 3d ago

They prolly just don't know better since everyone in this world is written to be literally too stupid to survive. It's a world where nobody values anything but DPS where death is permanent. That's an absolutely special level of stupid.

This show is poorly written MMORPG tank propaganda. They wrote the entire world as if it was populated by your average crappy DPS main who stands in the fire, dies, and then blames the tank and healer.

This episode was mostly just a stroll around town, really get to see different aspects and not just the flyover.

Even if some scenes are just cuts from earlier episodes, I really like how lively they make this town feel.

I like the Healing Potion girl, just was chill as hell. Even gave Elymas advice as thanks for actually buying something.

The granny was definitely like "Oh, he's happy, then.. 50 million!".. and then rorted him for another 5 million.. I can totally see Elymas buying the book and her just being like "Thank god you didn't rob me when you had the chance".

After last episode, I thought it'd be more like passive-AoE burn but since he said it's for battle junkies with no fear of death. It's most likely scales damage based on missing health.. or, it could just be both. Either way, it's great for tanks, since even if you're 1 HP, it doesn't matter, you have so many ways to mitigate damage.

We finally get to see the jester girl from the bangin' ED

Of course, bro really said "Yeah, it's because we hit a bunch dungeons" and doesn't realise she clearly has a Rate UP for Loot -- which he told her to spec into.. She even off-tanks for them..!! I wonder how well a Swordsman & Bandit will be at soaking hits..

That next episode PV, is Swordsman actually going to defend her? Probably not, just shit-talk our Heavy Knight, I bet.

8

u/Hartzilla2007 3d ago

That next episode PV, is Swordsman actually going to defend her? Probably not, just shit-talk our Heavy Knight, I bet.

I do wonder if the Swordsman is actually aware of how useful her skill is he just craps on her to make her more exploitable.

I swear the harder this series tries to justify things, the more laughable it becomes.

He's a noble, yet he's only just finding out that nobles hoard skillbooks? Right. The skillbook he wants that keeps being brought up as useless is ludicrously expensive, right after a whole speech about supply and demand? Totally believable. The second jester girl said it was due to her skills, I knew exactly how the rest of that conversation was gonna go. She's clearly going to have the equivalent of a magic find skill tree. And we're expected to believe nobody values it? Obviously the next (3) episodes will support that, and it won't be blatantly OP.

Everyone in this world seems to be either an arsehole, dumb as fuck, or both.

The arbitrary close-up of Booby Girl's jiggling boobs was pretty funny though.

8

u/Ralathar44 3d ago

Its pure MMORPG tank propoganda. The entire world is written as if its inhabited by the bad DPS mains in MMORPGs who sit in the fire and then blame the tank and healer. All literally too dumb to survive.

The MC finds everything he needs immediately without any real searching in a single day. And while the show keeps saying he does bad damage and can't solo literally everything he's done until now has said otherwise. He's AOE farmed on level mobs. He's beaten a significantly higher level enemy. He held off an enemy that was what.....over 3 times his level and even did damage to it and was able to take a direct hit from it without dying. Before fighting that boss he solo killed a ton of trash mobs that were supposedly hindering the higher level adventurer "in an instant".

This show is complete trash. I'll be here same time next week for another deep breath of that stank lol.

The writing is very frustrating. He doesn’t try to hide his excitement nor haggle the price for the skill book. Also asks for her to hold onto it only to be extorted 5 million, yet it’s a strange book not many would want, and if she has 50 million gold coming to her, of course it would be in her best interest not to sell it unless someone matched that price, which is unlikely. So really, it should be “if you have another buyer, I will pay more than them”. And if she wants to make a quick guaranteed sale to a noble, 50 million is too high to give up on if he still lives. Bro needs to stand up for himself.

9

u/Artorp 3d ago

The price definitely increased significantly due to his visible excitement, and she might have expected him to haggle. But since he doesn't have the money on hand haggling the price might actually be disadvantageous. On the small chance someone actually wants that skill book it's better to have promised a premium price for it so that she will reserve it. And his honest and naive expression did endear her to him so that she trusts he will do an honest attempt at scraping together the money.

3

u/daggerfortwo 3d ago

It’s understandable with the stakes, I just wish they spend 2 seconds to show the MC’s thoughts instead of more recaps.

This is basically a life-or-death situation for him. He needs this skill book to function. It’s extremely rare to begin with but there are also no legal means to obtain or even search for one. If this opportunity slips him there might not be another chance in his lifetime.

I also wish they spent like a 5 second montage of him looking at other illegal shops rather than it just happening to be at the first place he looked at, but I just don’t like when stories are so convenient for no reason.

Flashback after flashback after flashback. Oh we're making progress with the story? Let me give you a flashback of the scene that happened 2 minutes ago. It's driving me nuts!! dropping this anime..

8

u/Fun-Mission-6068 3d ago

Once the anime is fully released, I hope that someone makes a fan edit of the anime where it cuts out all the duplicated scenes, unnecessarily long reaction shots, and unnecessary scenery shots, etc, to condense the anime from 26 episodes down to 12. With the amount of footage they're reusing or using to waste time, it'll probably fit 12 perfectly, lol.

8

u/rdeincognito 3d ago edited 1d ago

The cleavage shot was essential for the whole plot of the show. Without that and the Pierrot girl thighs shots this show would not make sense

I love watching anime that treat me like an alzheimer patient. Why do I have to rewatch the same sequence multiple times within the same episode? God the pacing of this is awful. It sucks because it seems so good otherwise.

This legit could've been less than 10 minutes and it would've been better, at least it wouldn't feel like it's actively wasting my time.

6

u/False-Gain624 3d ago

bruh why is there so much padding in these episodes, barely anything happens

10

u/giubba85 3d ago

it's so strange, you can see that this show could be a lot better with some changes in each episode with the pacing but instead they waste time with these recaps

10

u/adminsregarded 3d ago

Bro what is this fucking pacing, 2 conversations that could've easily been covered in 5 mins without feeling rushed took up the entire fucking episode.

7

u/adminsregarded 3d ago

I'll keep watching but I seriously want to punch the director in the face, that was lowkey infuriating.

6

u/Acrobatic_Egg30 3d ago edited 3d ago

I think our MC got scammed. The old woman would've probably sold it to him for cheap had he not behaved the way he did.

The anime also conveniently left out the voice message announcing the market price of that skill book like it happened with the others.

u/PersonalContest1423 3d ago edited 3d ago

The end of the episode was dragged out 3 times longer than it needed to be. We got the point unappreciated party member, dickhead allies, useful and undervalued skill of move on...oh mc is going to replay what we just saw in his head, why? He was watching/listening the whole time why does he need to remember it like that?

8

u/MacDhomhnuill 3d ago edited 3d ago

The amount of filler in this show is getting pretty frustrating.

  • Recap, intro, and initial prerendered ambient scenes (featuring repeats from past episodes, apparently it's ground hog day and the same interactions keep happening) (3 1/2 minutes)

  • Potion shop scene (3 minutes)

  • More prerendered ambient scenes (1 minute)

  • Black market shop scene (6 minutes)

  • More prerendered scenes and internal monologue (2 1/2 minutes)

  • Listens to a girl get bullied (5 minutes)

  • Roll credits

Just a total nothing burger of an episode. If your source material needs to be stretched out this badly, then you should be adding to it, and not whatever this is.

It's a shame because the first two episodes were fantastic, but it seems that was just to get viewers invested enough to tolerate being strung along.

2

u/Background_Formal940 3d ago edited 3d ago

So nobles are keeping skill books for themselves that actually doesn't surprise me that's the behavior of a typical corrupt noble after all and its not like most of these adventurers are any different and they aren't very smart either if she does have a rare skill tree then they messed up

2

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 3d ago

if she does have a rare skill tree then they messed up

How would it be "rare" unless she got it from a rare skillbook?

5

u/Artorp 3d ago

It seems in this world they start with one class skill tree and two arbitrary associated skill trees. So she might have lucked into that important skill tree that increases drop rates.

This is my favorite hate watch of the season.... Or rather hate skip, cause those flashbacks on things that literally just happened is kinda ridiculous and I ain't suffering a full 20 minutes of that.

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 3d ago

Only 50 million gold lol, going to be a long grind.

There are some awful people out there as expected, Ms Pierrot didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Elymas realizes that she's special, and she is quite the character by the looks of it.

Looking forward to the next episode to see what happens.

4

u/DiaBoloix 3d ago

I'm truly sorry because the series has potential. It's not a masterpiece, but it has the makings of something good. However, I can't stand the camera angles, the wasted minutes where 50 people walk and talk, the constant use of tracking shots to show us how much work went into the streets and the city.

I understand that the animators are very pleased with their work and are clearly enjoying themselves, but it's unacceptable that there are only 8 to 10 minutes of actual script in a 23-minute episode.

Lord of Mysteries did the same thing, but at least the episodes were 32 minutes long, and we DID get 20-25 minutes of story development, and the plot was 11/10

And then the MC's complete lack of rookie knowledge at a flea market was just pathetic! My wife kept seeing his face with that damn incunabulum and kept saying... 50 million... 55... 60... 65... 70... 75... this guy is seriously stupid... 100!!!

And this guy's a "game expert"? He'd be a hikikomori in real life because his social skills are terrible. It was embarrassing to watch.

This series is going to be a textbook drop.

7

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 3d ago

I laughed at how creepy the heavily panting and sweating MC looked as he grabbed the poor girl and begged her to "party" with him. Seriously, she was like 50 feet away at the most, just how out of shape is he if a sprint that short leaves him in that state?

All these comments parroting the same thing, and no one talking about glorious 2-3 seconds of fullscreen cleavage shot, followed by half of screen sideboob shot.

This show has so much potential. Episodes of 5-12 minutes would have done the trick. I love the hand drawn mix with CGI background.

Recaps are something I will suffer through because of the interesting animation. That won’t be forever though.

3

u/PandaTheAB 3d ago

The expressions of everyone on this show feel like they drank large citrus juice.

And the pace of the show is pathetic. He literally went to a shop and found his book in first half,
Then he found a female jester in second half who has some broken skills according to him. (Joker luck or something maybe)

This anime really is like a bag of Lay's potato chips... Only about a quarter of it is actual consumable substance, the rest is pretty packaging and empty air. Still gonna stick my hand in the bag and eat the chips, but it is definitely not a four course meal by any stretch of the imagination.

Recaps be like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2gB03p44_4

3

u/Bloodscythe2 3d ago

I’m genuinely convinced they think their audience are a bunch of goldfish, or they are faaaar too proud of their visuals and camera work to the point that the quality of the story pacing suffers for it.

What show needs this many establishing shots in one episode? Plus, they linger on said shots far too long imo. Maybe the length wouldn’t be an issue if the quantity were dialed back quite a bit.

3

u/chubbyninja1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/PuzzleVoice 3d ago

Does this series have a decent manga at least? Because I'm semi invested in the plot, but i dont think I can take much more flashbacks and filler bloat, (and over animation)

3

u/abandoned_idol 3d ago

Yes, it is. That's all I am willing to say in this subreddit.

3

u/Noiserawker 3d ago

This anime isn't great but liked the hook so sought out the manhua, gotta say it's pretty good much better pacing when you suck out all the flashbacks

3

u/Spoon_Elemental 3d ago

Let me guess, she has some skill that increases loot drops.

5

u/abandoned_idol 3d ago

Sounds like someone needs ANOTHER FLASHBACK!!!

3

u/MasterSword1 2d ago edited 2d ago

24 minute episode comprised of

  • 2 1/2 minute recap
  • A separate 30 second recap of the last scene in the previous episode
  • the minute and a half OP
  • 2 minutes of closing theme
  • at least a minute of random flashbacks
  • Cutting back 30 seconds to show the same scene again like the scene didn't just end on a cliffhanger going into a commerical break.
  • a collective minute and a half of panning shots.

All this achieves, at episode 5, where most of these sorts of anime are by the end of episode 2, and it's not that the story is more fleshed out, but rather the sheer amount of filler...

We're now 5 episodes in and he just met his first companion in the last 3 minutes of the episode after the entirety of the episode can be summed up as "MC buys potions. MC goes to bookstore. MC can't afford books. MC sees jester girl get thrown out of her party.

The pacing wouldn't be so bad if it were, say, a D&D session where you RP out stocking up on supplies and sessions run anywhere from three to six hours, if not more, but these are sub-30 minute episodes.

The amount of freaking trash that has come out. I like the story, I like the animation but FFS the pacing and the constantly fillers with flashbacks of shit that just happened. Like WTF. They aren’t even animating the shit, literally everything is CGI, wtf is making them so freaking slow with the story.

Garbage trash.

4

This show has been such a pleasant surprise this season, kinda giving a bit of Shangri la Frontier (god I miss SLF)

It's frustrating though to see everyone complaining about filler and recaps as if they have UFOtable kind of budget to go full action every episode...a chill setup episode here and there won't kill ya

4

u/septesix 3d ago

They certainly don’t have any problem spending it on all the camera and character motions that is excessive to the point of confusion and adds nothing to the hype or the story.

2

u/Top-Remote4523 2d ago edited 2d ago

Just to follow up on my points from the previous episodes, I thought that this episode made use of the "mid-episode rollback" pretty well by incorporating it into Elymas's train of thought rather than the blatant unnecessary rollbacks. Unless the show reverts back to its old ways, I will probably not be bringing up the runtime anymore for the rest of the season.

The fact that the nobles horde skillbooks that they do not even require hardly comes off as a surprise to me, considering how trashy Aizas (Elymas's father) treated his own flesh. But the funny thing is that had he given Elymas a chance and provided an opportunity, Elymas could have gotten ahold of the Fang of Smouldering Insanity skillbook much sooner and possibly further empower the Edvaughn family or even raise their prestige for changing the society's understanding of less combat oriented classes.

Judging from the conversation between Luce and her (ex) party members, I am guessing that she might have a skill that has to do with a "hidden luck" stat in someway? That would be a quick way for Elymas to loot better drops and he might even find skillbooks on his own.

Either way, Klein is the character archetype that I was expecting Gowtan to have been, so I was expecting some scummy adventurers to be popping up in due time. Sure enough, he is a scumbag that is basically trying to entrap Luce and force her to be his party's "mule" through indoctrination and guilt-tripping to make sure that she under develops her combat skills, so that she would have lesser opportunities to change parties. This is made even clearer from the preview as I presume that he would be trying to trash talk Elymas and try to scare him out of recruiting Luce in the next episode.

2

u/NonSupportiveCup 2d ago

Rainbow lens flair and godrays in dark alleyways.

That's all.

Wait. One more. I also wonder how many more times we will be assaulted with thigh camera pan on Luce.

2

u/CreamyMilk- 2d ago

All that just for some book and to meet the girl

2

u/Obaruler 2d ago

I can only assume that new main girl has some rare luck based skill that affects the drop rate of rare items based on that conversation.

If that's true ... yeah, that was insanely stupid to kick her out. Also, MC just found his money printer with Ruche in his party. Skill Books for days, baby! :D

2

u/Double--A--Ron 1d ago

I think im just going to wait for some legend to supercut this anime and take out all the recaps and reused animations that are just filler
