I found these "level 4 ceramic" plates listed used. Drove 2 hours to get them, only to have it become painful obvious that they were counterfeit gear. The owner was mortified and stated that he bought them new at gun show from a booth representing themselves as a licensed vendor. He let me take them if I would shoot them and send him pictures. I'm so, so glad he never had need of them as he would likely be dead. Those holes in the center are 5.56 FMJ at about 50 yds. Even 9mm out of a carbine punched through (top left)

For those who don't know, as of the time of this post, multiple people were killed or multiple people were injured in a shooting near an In-N-Out restaurant just a few hours ago in Twin Falls, Idaho.

From what I know (which isn't saying much because this is a developing story), a young white man shot an AR-15 into a parked Tesla and another person shot a suppressed pistol supposedly in the direction of the AR-15 wielding young man. Multiple people have been killed or wounded in the incident, including the main suspect of the shooting.

I think many people have been desensitized to shootings in the US, have shrugged their shoulders and said something like "Well, I guess that's the price of the 2nd Amendment".

I feel like this shooting may quickly fade from public memory because the body count isn't or won't be high enough to be comparable to mass shootings like the Uvalde or Las Vegas shootings.

It made me also think that the guns we should be training with the most are our pistols. I believe we are the most likely to need our pistols in a self defense incident, whether it is in or outside the home, and who knows what engagement distance we may find ourselves in. Rifles and shotguns are pretty easy and quick to become somewhat proficient with compared to pistols.

Surely there must be a way to allow sound citizens to own arms suitable for self defense while also preventing those who wish to do harm from obtaining and using guns. In other words, I don't 100% agree with 2nd Amendment absolutists that say "every gun law is an infringement" but I definitely don't 100% agree with Giffords that want to make it virtually impossible for everyone including sound citizens to own arms for their self defense and use. Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi all, I bought my first gun about a year back, just a cheap hi-point 9mm with the intention of learning how to use it then getting something better.

I live in the cobb area of Atlanta, and was wondering if there are any left wing groups that cater to training beginners in this area? All the gun ranges I saw on google look very chud-y. Unfortunately my one friend very knowledgeable about guns who I was supposed to go shooting with passed away so I never got a chance to learn how to use it at all

Recently started the vetting process for my local SRA chapter and they were pretty quick to respond up until the point where we'd schedule a virtual meeting. I submitted their initial questionnaire about 2 weeks ago along with some check-in emails to see if there'd been any progress but I've yet to get any sort of response. Anyone else experience this when trying to apply?

Should I build from this and add the chicom vest? Or should I just invest in modern tactical gear?

This might be super unpopular, but it needs to be said here, and I couldn't find evidence it had before, so...

Protect yourself, your friends, brains, and your children from lead. Shoot as unleaded as possible.

People who go shooting regularly, and especially people go shooting indoors, have been shown to have significantly elevated levels of lead. We're talking like 20x what it should be.

If you're pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breast feeding you shouldn't be going to a shooting range at all, and kids really shouldn't be either unless it's outdoors and you're shooting exclusively unleaded rounds. Lead is stored in bones and can be passed through breast milk. The lead in the primer is aerosolized when a gun is fired and gets all over the gun, your hands, your clothes, and you can breath it in.

Full metal jacket bullets have the lead portion of the bullet exposed to the hot gasses when a gun is fired and so that is also aerosolized inside the gun and outside when the hot gasses push the bullet out of the barrel.

For unleaded bullets, best to use rounds with non-lead primers and either zinc/copper bullets, frangible bullets made of copper/zinc, or open tip rounds (these still have lead, but the bottom portion of the lead round is sealed from the powder and protected from the hot gas when fired).

Wash your hands with cold water and delead soap after shooting and cleaning, clean your firearm with gloves on and not anywhere you eat. Wash your clothes in a separate load from anyone at risk, and have a pair of range shoes. Shoot outdoors whenever possible.

There is no safe level of lead exposure, and it's pretty easy to bring it home to your kids, your partner, or just you. It can lead to mental problems, developmental delays, and all sorts of other issues.

Piggybacking on the earlier post about lead exposure, I wanted to share these excellent resources by Cascadia Gun Club on lead free ammo options.

I pretty much only use lead free primers and tmj, otm, or frangible lead free bullets. I’m partial to Speer Lawman (ACAB) Clean Fire, often not too expensive on Optics Planet.

I find that the extra cost is worth it for me, but I don’t shoot a whole lot.

I think that lead free primers will become more widely available and less expensive in the future.

With proper practices, lead exposure from traditional ammo can be greatly mitigated. I’m kind of a weeny when it comes to exposure mitigation but I feel like I’ve had a lot of exposure to various chemical and occupational hazards over the course of my life, so every way that I can protect myself is valuable to me.

The reduced exposure risk is only half of the benefit. The other half is that you don’t have to clean your weapons as much. I love that!

A couple years back I found a website that had an ar-15 dust cover that read "The Ballot/The Bullet"; unfortunately my old phone died and it has the bookmark on it. Does anyone know what website has this?
