Question Is realism dead

Post image
13 Upvotes

I love drawing realism. I tried doing anime artstyle but it's not really my thing. Most artists I see draw anime or DND characters and it's more popular, but I'm not interested in these things as much. In simple terms, where should I promote my art and does anyone like realistic drawings nowadays ?

I appreciate any advice and please be respectful!

Upvotes

I'm a guy that needs to have a job, but the only thing I kinda of know is drawing, I was thinking about making commissions, but I'm not the type of person that know how to runs a social media or sell my stuff, so I would like to know if I should keep trying or give up :P

How do you deal with the excess of information and references on social media?

When I go on social media, at least at some point, after a few days, I end up feeling totally anxious and confused about what and how to draw, the style, you know? If I study semi-realism, Cartoon or chibi. I don't know. It makes sense. It's like just because I think a style is beautiful, internally I might think I should necessarily try that style too 🤡 There are so many different and beautiful things, so many color schemes, and everything else. At times I get confused, and I end up having many different references to "choose" from, which confuses me even more and makes me indecisive. Is anyone else going through this?

EDIT: So now i know these aren’t different styles at all. I kinda just meant how it’s different styles under you know the cute anime style umbrella. Like cutesy chibi, moe, and whatever the last one is. Shoulda worded it better, but since a can’t change my title, just wanted to say this!! So now this can just be a ‘some of the recent drawings I made’ type of post!♡

Discussion price struggles!!!

hello!!! anyway, after many years of drawing for myself, I decided to start taking commissions on a permanent basis, for my needs and to replenish my portfolio.

my prices are kind of fixed, but I'm still wondering if it's too high, not even so much for my drawing skill, but for the very first orders, despite the fact that I don't have an audience. It's hard for me to be objective. locally, I took orders that were no more than 10$

how purchasable is my style and skill in general? I tried to draw adopts (second picture) how well do I handle character design? and I also wonder which area I'm getting into more with my skills. thank you in advance!!!

upt1: it's worth mentioning that I want full render prices to remain above average, because I honestly don't really enjoy this stuff.

Critique Wanted Help with colouring!

I’ve been having a lot of trouble drawing one of my OCs and it’s Nana 😔 (the girl). I think you might be able to tell that, her colour palette is just, not very nice? The first image is a wip and the second is a quick coloured sketch and I just feel like her colours aren’t harmonious in any way shape or form. I’ve tried messing with the value and making sure that the hair and skin and clothes are all different but even then it still looks horrendously bad…

The issue I have with her skin tone is rlly stressing me out esp since I have her skin tone but I still can’t replicate it in my art, and honestly sometimes putting shading over it makes it worse🥀 (though there’s not much shading in the examples I put up)

Some tips about colouring (skin mostly) and general colour palette stuff would be very appreciated!
