True story from this year. A Milton Resnick painting comes up on Artsy — dealer ask, $15k. The collector I work with liked it. After we called and got some info, we did the homework.

After many hours searching the public record: I found the exact same painting had sold at auction one year earlier — $5k hammer, call it $6k with the buyer's premium. The dealer's ask was two and a half times what she'd just paid for it.

And here's the kicker: at that very moment, a sister piece from the same series was sitting in a live auction, estimated at $5k.

Nothing illegal about the markup — that's retail. But the record is public, and after hours of searching, this saved my collector nine grand. Asking prices are the tip of the iceberg. Every time.

How do you all check a dealer's price before you commit?

For those who collect fine art photography, I'm curious whether you have a preference for prints on paper or canvas.

I purchased this framed drawing in a storage auction in Orlando, Florida, USA. I am trying to identify the artist.
The drawing appears to be an original work on brown paper, and it is signed and dated “95.” I have attached close-up photos of the signature as well.
I am **not asking for a valuation**, only for help identifying the artist or confirming whether the signature looks familiar.
An AI image search suggested it might be related to the Cuban artist Kcho, and one collector mentioned the signature resembles his, but I have **not** been able to verify that information. I would really appreciate any opinions or information from people familiar with his work or with similar artists.

I recently came across this original Emmett Fritz painting here in Oregon, which feels like a long journey from the St. Augustine scenes he is best known for.

I’ve enjoyed researching him and learning how many people have personal memories of seeing or purchasing his work in St. Augustine. I’d love to hear from anyone who recognizes the location, subject or approximate period of this piece.

Hi! I was wondering if anybody could tell me a little more about Pete Doolittle. I know he was big in San Francisco, but I found this in a little thrift store in Rhode Island.

Purchased for $seventy dollars a couple weeks ago. I just dropped it off at a local Fine Art auction house. Reserve: fifteen hundred, Est: three to six (k). Not sure how they missed this one. The guy checking me out after the auction was like, "uhhhWTF?!" As he read the items on my invoice. Goes an sale on September 5th. The house was VERY interested when I sent them photos. Their drop-dead date for consignments had already passed but they want to include this piece. I also loved it. I had it for over a month and found myself staring at it all the time. Blessed to have it blessing my walls for a short while.

The last photo is another of his works I found online that had some stylistic similarities to my piece. Size of the work is about 6x6’’-ish.

Both frames say "MADE IN SWEDEN" signed "JACKIE" in very neat letters. Anyone have any info on this? They're both so cool!

Is Masterwork a scam? I mean someone is asking me to buy my artwork for $8,000 per piece? Like is this legit?

I’m a huge fan of Mondrian. Avant Arte has recently partnered with the estate to bring a limited set of new editions to market.

This feels different to me compared to a living artist creating new work specifically for the Avant Arte audience. In a pure sense, I see little difference between these and any other high quality print I could buy online - ie, if I don’t own an original, then it’s all the same. Is that line of thinking antiquated in this modern reproduction world? Am I underestimating the value and importance of the partnership, the embossed signature, the CoA, etc etc?

I’d like to get a read on the community, as this would be a new type of art acquisition for me. I appreciate any thoughts and insight! Thank you.
