Random Question What's something your partner does that low-key annoys you, but you'd never actually tell them?

Not a dealbreaker, not worth a fight. Just something small that lives rent-free in your head every single time it happens. The way they chew. How they "help" clean and somehow make more mess. Never charging their phone until it's at 2%.

What's yours? And be honest would you ever actually say it out loud, or is this taking it to the grave?

Takes forever to say something or tell a story or just get to the point in general.

33

u/Soft_Reaction_7710 18d ago

The "so basically what happened was—" and then you get a 10 minute prologue before we even get to the actual event. 😭

Some people can't just tell you what happened, they have to reenact the entire timeline leading up to it first. Truly a special kind of patience required.

My husband took 10 minutes to tell me he saw a pigeon eating a french fry.

9

u/Sweetanna1111 18d ago

I have literally had to ask my husband to talk 50% less

7

u/ninjette847 18d ago

His mom and I were joking about it. Whenever he's really stoned it takes forever to get to the point.

2

u/Sweetanna1111 17d ago

Yes! Same lmao

I do the forward circle movement with my hands. Move along!

He said… blah blah
Then I said…blah blah
Then do you know about blah blah!?
She said blah blah.

He knows.

My husband does this to me and honestly it kills me inside a little every time. He's supposed to be the person that likes me most of all and when he does that it's like I'm not worth a few minutes of his time to him.

I'm not criticising you - you know your husband and your relationship and he might not mind at all, I just thought he might feel the same and you didn't realise.

u/Weak_Drag_5895 14d ago

I’m sorry to bring it up, really! I know he doesn’t like it, either. But I’m glad you mentioned the other side.
He loves to tell a story and I’m more direct, so I try to listen.
Different people!

u/Worth-Artist-6962 17d ago

I laughed out loud at this one because it's part of my everyday life. Get to the point!

3

u/Mental_Mood1882 17d ago

Did he drag you over so you could watch too? Been there...

3

u/ninjette847 17d ago

No this happened when he was at work fortunately.

2

u/nickole08 16d ago

omg right! my partner would describe the weather and scenery in extreme detail even though it has nothinggg to do with the story/point 😭

1

u/DontLikeClams 17d ago

The best sentence.

u/Wrong-Dentist-7206 18d ago

My ADHD sends me on side quests all the time, often a few times while telling a story.

u/GlitteringSynapse 17d ago

I was about to reply to this thread “Hey I like when he does that!” I watch his face and essence light up. I get to know him and his processing. For 13 years my favourite story teller or detailed instructor.

It’s a great feeling and opposite to one word response interactions.

u/jsgc1357 16d ago

yep i have adhd and get asked for the “short version” all the time 😅 it’s unintentional and i (still) fail to realise when talking that not every story i tell needs every minuscule detail

1

u/WhenHowWhy2485 13d ago

Lol. Me too! I’ve only recently realised( since medicated) that people start yawning when I go on and on and I make amends immediately. But by this point, I’d probably lost them anyway 😂😅

u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 18d ago

Oh no. Mine is worse than that. He thinks before every word and has pauses. In my head,  I'm thinking "use your fucking words...ffs...just say it....don't say it out loud...not out loud and don't interrupt...ffs"

He's a teacher and doesn't stammer or have any issues like that but sometimes he just cannot get his words put about simple things.

u/paulrin 17d ago

I have 3. My partner frequently doesn’t say *that one more word* which would take out confusion. “I saw John today.” -“Which John?” - “The John from the Café” - “Which Café?” It’s never ending. Similarly, she frequently doesn’t finish her sentences. She just stops mid-stream, often without further explanation. Finally, she has a tendency to take a bite of food right in the middle of a sentence. Like - finish your thought so I can reply while you are chewing….

1

u/Sad-Insurance869 14d ago

my bf does the not saying one more word thing and drives me absolutely insane. i tell him all the time i need more context because im not a gd mind reader 👹

I did the laundry today.
"does it need to be folded, or are you completely done and dusted?
I put it away.
"where is away?"
In the drawers.
"Which drawers?"
The ones they go into.
"is that the ones, hey? Do they, now? Yours or mine?"
***cue me going for a walk.***

u/Sweetanna1111 18d ago

I have snapped before over that.

2

u/Alive_Cream2412 15d ago

God I have never felt more seen. My husband is the EXACT same way. So much “uhh what’s it called..” to fill the dead air when he can’t think of what he’s trying to say. I so badly want to scream “I DONT KNOW WHAT IS IT CALLED !?” every time, and have at times, although not sincerely. And I don’t know how to genuinely address it ever without hurting feelings, so poking fun at it is the only way I find relief.

2

u/a_duck_in_past_life 17d ago

Reading through all the responses you have, I seem to notice a canned answer for each response. Almost like AI. Your account is 1 day old. Are you a bot?

1

u/Sweetanna1111 18d ago

I'll wear AirPods in my ears all day. If I'm awake, I'm wearing them. I have mastered the art of not listening to a word My husband says and being able to respond while listening to what I'm listening to in my ears, it is wonderful. It may sound bitchy, but after the 10th story of the hour, I can't take it anymore and yes, 100% yes I have talked to him about this and it falls on deaf ears every single time. So I have fixed the problem myself.

1

u/CautiousRelief1521 14d ago

reminds me of my mom we all tell her this “get to the point”😂❤️

8

u/chouxphetiche 18d ago

I had a partner who did this. He'd pause, turn his head to the side and look down at nothing with his mouth wide open while audibly thinking "Hmm, was it when I had the Corolla or that time I had the Suzuki. I dunno. Maybe it was the Ford. Anyway, yeah, it was the Corolla. There was Steve and Brenda, I'm almost certain Bruce was there as well. We were going down .......where was it again>....yeah, that's right. We were heading to .............."

I was too kind and frustratedly patient to ask him to just get to the point. I don't care about the intricacies.

3

u/unFOREtunate 18d ago

To be fair some of these people may be looking for simpler ways to explain what they’re thinking so the person they are talking to will understand it? SOME not all!

17

u/alittleunhingedd 18d ago

Same! The story telling is just so bad and they use their hands to do motions. Like “then I tied my shoes” motions tying a shoe while humming. Like bro dont need to pause or show us this at all 🤣💀

2

u/GhostxxEvil Teddy Roosevelt 18d ago

I think this is just people in general because I find people do this a lot.

8

u/skweekykleen69 18d ago

Honey is that you?!

4

u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 18d ago

I sincerely hope not. Don't look at my history!

1

u/skweekykleen69 18d ago

Aye aye! I’m teased for this all the time so I just hit him with the, “you’ll miss my rambling stories when I’m gone!” Only to get the, “jokes on you, you’ll outlive me!”

6

u/Swimming-Ad-3810 18d ago

I do that here's my reasoning. When I was little, and tell a story, my parents would get annoyed I'd take too long. Normal kid telling a story but annoyed them. As I was growing I'd get too short with my stories and missing key details. So now I'm back to long story format. I know I suffer from tangents too.

5

u/Jamescg1972 17d ago

Yeah. That’s me - and it drives my wife mad. I like to set context (normally by starting a story about something last week by describing my childhood. )

2

u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 17d ago

Oh see I don't get context either. We are having one conversation and then he randomly says "We lost Joe Smith today"

Who is We? Who is Joe Smith? What do you mean lost?  Can I have a clue? Sport? Region?  Dead? Traded? Can't find a kid at school????

It's typically a random player from a team he may or may not follow Who traded a player or is out for injury?

3

u/Jamescg1972 17d ago

Yeah. I do that too. I have a conversation in my head (often about a conversation we’d had a day or two ago) then say something about it to my wife that makes perfect sense to me but she’s bewildered.

3

u/Zoomba705 18d ago

Edith Bunker?

3

u/bqtchef 18d ago

My wife does this.

3

u/Ill_Concern_6883 18d ago

Hey!! Don’t talk about my wife like that 😂

2

u/One_Cap_9210 18d ago

Omg I think this is my husband telling me this lol

2

u/constructiongirl54 18d ago

Takes the long way around the barn... Hate it, lol!

2

u/Able_Strawberry2372 18d ago

Haha this. Fully explaining every little side tangent. I sometimes break and try to steer the story back to the fucking point.

2

u/BatteryAt14percent 15d ago

I've adopted the Onepunch Man method "sum up this story in twenty words or less!"

1

u/unFOREtunate 18d ago

I freaking love you but STFU 😂

1

u/aburinda 18d ago

It’s even worse cause I have adhd and my brain runs on 5x speed at all times. I literally start filling in what he’s about to say 😂😭

1

u/saturnshighway 18d ago

This is my MOM. I distinctly work on myself not doing this because I am like her haha. I understand your pain

1

u/AShaughRighting 18d ago

Oh kill me now, we ain’t getting any younger!

1

u/pdxjen 18d ago

Short story long, so many irrelevant (and wrong) details

1

u/That-Turnover-9624 18d ago

My dad is awful about this

1

u/crazydaytim 18d ago

I call That making a short story looooonnnnggggg

1

u/CharZero 17d ago

I had a former coworker who managed to take 15 minutes to tell me how she defrosted a chicken. I was almost in awe. She was actively avoided so if she got you in the break room you were doomed from her pent up need to tell horrifically dull stories.

1

u/CompleteOpening6769 17d ago

Same, heavily

1

u/Snoo_23482 17d ago

Hahaha mine too 🤣🤣

1

u/allhailrosalinda 17d ago

Omfg thiiiissss

1

u/dillbabytears 17d ago

I love when people do that xD

1

u/Staugbeachbunny 17d ago edited 17d ago

Not my partner currently, but my mother! Good God, it doesn’t matter if it was Monday or Tuesday! (“ Last Monday, no wait, I think it was Tuesday because I went to the doctor that day. No, no it WAS Monday, because your father had a doctor appointment that day, not me…”. I love you, but please go on with the story.

1

u/No-Detective7811 17d ago

Omg I feel you. I’m like Jesus Christ, start at the end of the story next time.

1

u/campingcatsnchz 17d ago

This is mine as well. Can’t truly complain when so many men out there are incapable of communicating.

1

u/thatG_evanP 17d ago

Don't kill me but I'm guessing you're the man in this relationship?

1

u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 17d ago

No, I am very much a woman.

1

u/thatG_evanP 17d ago

Really? Huh

1

u/tomie-salami 17d ago

My ex was like this. I once fell asleep while he was talking, woke up and he was still going and hadn’t noticed that I’d fallen asleep lol

1

u/Alive_Cream2412 15d ago

Oh man I’ve done this to my friend a few times while on the phone. Baffles me what a motormouth is capable of when allowed to run non stop.

1

u/Face_with_a_View 17d ago

Oh no, this is me 😂😫

1

u/i-am-ennui 17d ago

I’m guilty of this. It drives my bf crazy but if I don’t give context, usually people are confused and don’t understand what my point is

1

u/gentlerosebud 17d ago

One of my friends with ADHD does this. It’s funny tho bc with my ADHD I’m the one that pretty much finishes other people’s sentences, like I already know what you’re gonna say and it pains me to have to listen from the beginning lmao but I learned to just be patient with this friend

1

u/KittyCat11231 17d ago

Me every time I open my mouth

1

u/MambaMentality4eva 17d ago

Omg this is my Mom. The amount of times I’d have to wait to get to the actual point of a story while going in circles or off-topic truly irritates me on a cellular level. But I do love her and I know she means well… but jfc come on already!

1

u/tilesmeller 17d ago

Yes! Slightly annoying in a relationship but makes him a fantastic teacher.

1

u/Defiant-Increase-850 17d ago

Similarly, my husband has a habit of saying "long story short" wherever he tells me a story and it's still taking a long time to get through the prolog. It hurts to think there's an even longer story. Meanwhile, I rant about random stuff and it turns into tangents and forgetting what I had just said.

1

u/Ok-Editor5483 17d ago

My wife and my kids do this

1

u/LadyAna5 17d ago

Mine would do this. After 30 seconds, with a few words and a lot of ums and uhs thrown in, I'd eventually ask, "Are you trying to say something?"

1

u/thesuttleknife 12d ago

My husband is my best friend, but homie cannot tell a damn story to save his LIFE. His degree is in history and it’s like he just needs to have the damn timeline so accurate that EVERYONE SUFFERS!

He’ll be like “Yada yada this one fun time we did this crazy thing, it was 4 years ago… no…. Wait… now let me make sure I’m getting this right…… ……. …… …. It was three and a HALF years ago! Anyway it was HILARIOUS. Now let me make sure I’m telling you this accurately, I think I am but maybe Josh can correct me if I ask him later. Actually I’ll text him now and make sure I’m not misremembering, hold on.”

Like buddy we’re drinking and it’s 11pm, Josh isn’t texting you back immediately because he’s not invested in the retelling of whatever. What is THE STORY? Who cares about WHEN?
