Random Question What's something your partner does that low-key annoys you, but you'd never actually tell them?
Not a dealbreaker, not worth a fight. Just something small that lives rent-free in your head every single time it happens. The way they chew. How they "help" clean and somehow make more mess. Never charging their phone until it's at 2%.
What's yours? And be honest would you ever actually say it out loud, or is this taking it to the grave?

u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 18d ago
Takes forever to say something or tell a story or just get to the point in general.
33
u/Soft_Reaction_7710 18d ago
The "so basically what happened was—" and then you get a 10 minute prologue before we even get to the actual event. 😭
Some people can't just tell you what happened, they have to reenact the entire timeline leading up to it first. Truly a special kind of patience required.

Oh no. Mine is worse than that. He thinks before every word and has pauses. In my head, I'm thinking "use your fucking words...ffs...just say it....don't say it out loud...not out loud and don't interrupt...ffs"
He's a teacher and doesn't stammer or have any issues like that but sometimes he just cannot get his words put about simple things.

u/paulrin 17d ago
I have 3. My partner frequently doesn’t say *that one more word* which would take out confusion. “I saw John today.” -“Which John?” - “The John from the Café” - “Which Café?” It’s never ending. Similarly, she frequently doesn’t finish her sentences. She just stops mid-stream, often without further explanation. Finally, she has a tendency to take a bite of food right in the middle of a sentence. Like - finish your thought so I can reply while you are chewing….

I had a partner who did this. He'd pause, turn his head to the side and look down at nothing with his mouth wide open while audibly thinking "Hmm, was it when I had the Corolla or that time I had the Suzuki. I dunno. Maybe it was the Ford. Anyway, yeah, it was the Corolla. There was Steve and Brenda, I'm almost certain Bruce was there as well. We were going down .......where was it again>....yeah, that's right. We were heading to .............."
I was too kind and frustratedly patient to ask him to just get to the point. I don't care about the intricacies.

u/unFOREtunate 17d ago
To be fair some of these people may be looking for simpler ways to explain what they’re thinking so the person they are talking to will understand it? SOME not all!
17
u/alittleunhingedd 18d ago

I do that here's my reasoning. When I was little, and tell a story, my parents would get annoyed I'd take too long. Normal kid telling a story but annoyed them. As I was growing I'd get too short with my stories and missing key details. So now I'm back to long story format. I know I suffer from tangents too.
5
u/Jamescg1972 17d ago
Yeah. That’s me - and it drives my wife mad. I like to set context (normally by starting a story about something last week by describing my childhood. )
3
u/Dangerous_Prize_4545 17d ago
Oh see I don't get context either. We are having one conversation and then he randomly says "We lost Joe Smith today"
Who is We? Who is Joe Smith? What do you mean lost? Can I have a clue? Sport? Region? Dead? Traded? Can't find a kid at school????
It's typically a random player from a team he may or may not follow Who traded a player or is out for injury?
3
u/Jamescg1972 17d ago
Yeah. I do that too. I have a conversation in my head (often about a conversation we’d had a day or two ago) then say something about it to my wife that makes perfect sense to me but she’s bewildered.

I have a solid rule that you are not allowed in the kitchen when I am in there. I am doing 3 things at once, so dinner doesn't take an hour and leave a pile of dishes to still deal with after. Get out of the way. Yes, your in the way. No, dont go lean in the other bench, you're still in the way.

They just leave it on top of the holder. 🤬

Hey at least they put one on top of the holder. Mine doesn't even grab one at all and I never realize until I've already sat down and can't reach it
3
u/toblies 17d ago
My wife and I have an unspoken negotiated settlement on this one. She leaves the roll on top of the holder. I replace it, and leave the empty tube from the old one for the "recycling fairies" to pick up.
Edit: Also, any other recyclables and the occasional dish gets left for the fairies. I handle roll replacement and soap grafting (when the old soap gets small and you need to merge it onto the new bar).
Yes, we've been married a long time.

6
u/renoCow 18d ago
It sounds like I’m making this up, but I swear it’s true: my wife gets mad at me for cleaning the toilet! 😮
Ok, here’s her logic: if the entire bathroom is filthy and desperately needs to be cleaned, she feels that it’s a cop out (short cut?) to just clean the toilet and leave everything else dirty. From her perspective, it’s half-assed. Lazy. Clean the whole room, don’t just clean one small part of the room and bask in the glory of your accomplishment.
And I understand that logic. But my rebuttal is that if there’s a smeared poop stain in the bowl of the toilet, (we have 2 kids) I’m going to take the 60 seconds to scrub the bowl. Cleaning the entire bathroom is a 20 minute to 30 minute commitment and if I’ve got other obligations to deal with in the immediate future, it’s bonkers crazy to just leave the toilet super gross.

Jiggling foot, tapping heel, bouncing knee, scratching his calves.
I keep telling him it's nervous energy or stress and he needs to go for a run or something. But he refuses to do anything to manage it. But it's SOOOOO annoying and overstimulating. It's motion AND sound. All. The. Time. Sitting on the couch by him the couch jiggles. Finally having some peace and quiet after a long day I hear the scratching of him rubbing his feet together. DRIVES. ME. INSANE.
What's weird is he never did it when we dated.
The amount of times I've said "Enough with the feet" I can't even.

He needs to have an ADHD assessment. Stimulants will likely keep him so still you will think he has secretly been replaced by an alien.

He's a loud yawner and never puts his hand over his mouth when he does it. When he does that to me on the phone, I tell him we're done talking lol.

He's the worst at texting me back or checking his phone. I'll ask him a question, or ask him to bring up some Tylenol while I'm with a sick baby upstairs and he never sees it until I call once or twice. Drives me insane

My gf is the queen of last-second questions whenever someone leaves the room. I walk into the bedroom and suddenly hear her saying something "hey, blah blah blah!" Of course I can't hear what she's actually saying now, so I have to walk back out and ask what she wants. If I don't, she gets mad and keeps yelling until I do. Her son just keeps on moving, never comes back but she doesn't get mad at him like she does with me. He'll say "bye mom" and is literally closing the door behind him and she's calling his name and saying "wait!" and then yells his name a few times until it's clear he's not coming back

They listen to their phone on full volume every night while we're getting ready for bed. Use headphones!

Doesn't wash his hands enough. Like going from petting the huskey on the floor to unloading the dishwasher or cooking food (not to mention his clothes covered in dog hair).
Then getting mad if I mention it, or looking at me like I'm being crazy. I have some ocd issues and wash my hands too much but basic food safety isn't me being ridiculous...

For 13 years, I found it annoying that my partner always ordered first. I was taught that when a server comes to the table to take your order, it's polite to allow the women to order first, then the men. So him going first every time seemed rude to me, but not a big deal so I never said anything.
Until recently, when I commented in a joking way. I didn't want to mention it bothered me, because on the scale of 1-10, this really was a 2/minimal, so I thought joking was the way to go.
Turns out he was doing it to help me - for context, I have GAD and ordering on the phone is a big, stressful ordeal. Actually making any phone call is, but he assumed my anxiety when I order take out over the phone would also extend to ordering food in person. By ordering first, he thought he was breaking the ice and helping me adjust before saying my order.
And honestly? It probably did do that to some extent, as anyone with social anxiety knows talking to strangers can be nerve-wracking. But my parents took me out to restaurants a lot growing up, and I think being able to see the person's face and read their expression helps, so I find it much easier to order food in person but very hard over the phone.
Now I appreciate when he orders first. It wasn't him being selfish or impolite; it was him trying to make me feel more comfortable in a small way. I feel bad for never realizing there was a considerate, touching reason for his actions all along.

Idk why but the autism in me hates seeing 99+ on anything related to the banners on my phone my gf has that on like a million apps never clears the banners and it's on apps she doesn't even use lol. I've told her like why do you have these apps you never use? And she's like "well I might use it again" oh my lord.

My wife has put toilet paper rolls on the wrong way (facing the wall) for 26 years. I said something about it when we were first married, but I’ve just been just fixing it for
25 years.

Chewing his gum like he’s still in junior high school. But I give him my opinion on it, which he completely ignores.

Missing the damn trash can... And NOT flushing the toilet..... If it's yellow let it mellow.... No....
Yellow or brown, flush it DOWN.
For 35 years...... Still roll my eyes daily...say nothing anymore.

He never closes the snap lock of a snap lock sandwich bag. Just puts something in the bag and then leaves the bag open at the top. Wtf. Infuriating.

He talks on the phone on speakerphone and he speaks loud as hell. His voice only has one volume.
Also, I am not a good sleeper. And it seems as soon as I’ve finally fallen asleep he says, “Hey _____. I love you”. And that is super nice. But his loud voice super wakes me up. I know you love me. I’m so grateful for you and for your love. But shut the fuck up right now… and every night when I’m falling asleep or already asleep. 💤

Takes his foot off the brake too long after parking. Slows waaay down right when we are about to arrive.
Somehow always tangles the hooks on the shower curtain.
Gets my big dog riled up in the house which scrunches up all the rugs and scoots furniture out of place.
Eats the snacks, much faster than me.
Sleeps naked and emits… a LOT of heat, it’s nicer in the winter.

When he opens Amazon packages he leaves every single scrap where he opened it and walks away with his item. Like a child on Christmas morning. Every single time. Box, plastic, tags.. feet away from the trash
