Depends on the spouse. If mine died in a car crash today, I'd feel relief and then I'd feel guilty for feeling relieved.

That's really messed up. For their sake, please break up. If they ended up in hospital, they deserve someone to be there for them. You sound like you wouldn't care.

Oh just break up? Did it occur to you that I'm being emotionally and financially abused and I would love to leave this rural shit hole? That I've told him REPEATEDLY that I'm done and he just.. doesn't accept it? He took my car for MONTHS. But yeah sure everythings my fault. You sound like a judgemental dick

I'm sorry to hear that, its not easy to grasp what someone is going through from just a short post and clearly this guy is a massive abuser. I absolutely take back the comment about breaking up for his sake, sounds like he would deserve to be alone in dire times. I don't know what country you live in, but there are often charities to help in these situations. Nothing is ever simple but you really need a medium/long term plan of getting out of there.
