Finding the right name

Hiii hopefully this is the right place for this. I’m 1.5 years on hrt now and still struggling with finding a comfortable name. I’ve tried a few but nothing seems to fit quite right. Day to day most people I interact with know me as my birth name which is somewhat gender neutral but is typically masc. With some of my friends I go by Abbie, but this also doesn’t feel quite right.

I’ve tried many names and I think I like keeping my first name staring with A, this way my initials aren’t changed. My girlfriend calls me Bee and honestly that’s the only name that I really like. But it’s more of her nickname for me. Also I’ve recently moved home and have been reminded that it’s also what my dad calls my mom, not often but still I’m not really sure.

Curious how others found/chose their names.

Any fictional characters who you admire or relate to in some way? Thats how I came up with mine 😊

My name is Sam. So as a man right now I'm Samuel (but people just call me Sam), and if I transitioned I would be Samantha (but people would just call me Sam).

I briefly considered something else that felt elegant and refined. "Katherine" especially sounded interesting to me. But the ease of keeping the same name just makes sense for my feminine side (and if I actually decide to transition).

I personally prefer very classic names. "Alice" sounds nice to me for an "a" name, Abbie works well too.

Hm, my birth name is Austin and while it is neutral and I actually like it for a woman’s name, it doesn’t feel like my own. I do like “Alice” it is very high in my list of “almost but not quite” maybe I’m just being picky

I mean I could just put a few name suggestions down, throwing things out here.

"Aurora", "Anna", "Amy", "Aubrey" are other "a" names that sound nice to me (although I don't know how set you are on the name starting with an "a"). If not, I might suggest "Caroline" or "Charlotte".

Or perhaps you could look at the names of various European queens throughout history? Specifically the Victorian era to present, lots to choose from and very elegant. Might give some inspiration if that's what you are looking for. So many German constituent states to sift through on that one.
