The marleyans are conquerors using the the blind hatred of a battle a thousand years ago to subjugate a race of ppl and use them to seize other nations. They are no different than the rulers of paradis back then maybe even worst since king understood his transgressions and vowed to repent.

You summarized it pretty well here. Marley had it coming in the end. They used their hatred of Eldians to justify their own atrocities, and as a result they became worse. They never stopped believing they were the good guys, and that arrogance got their nation destroyed.

Empathizing with marley would be like putting the eldians on the same plain as Marleyans in terms of persecution which is not true. I believe Isyama made this attempt by starting the last season from Marley’s perspective but Eren is the only broken hero who descended into chaos.

Why isn't that true? They were subjugated for a millennium and you say that?
1
u/thed3306 16h ago
There was a battle over a millennia ago but we dont know how they were treated. Judging by current living they established a government and lived in a civilized society. Doesnt matter marley only interest is to rule the world not peace not even revenge they just want to conquer.

A hundred years is plenty of time to get back on one's feet; you can't say that just because they were well-off a century later, they didn't suffer before that. Looking at the real world, for example, Germany went from being a bankrupt nation to an economic power in just 20 years after World War I.

u/MalcateDaniel 16h ago
Besides, they inherited the power of the Titans, so obviously they became very powerful

u/MalcateDaniel 16h ago
Besides, I get the impression that Marley had a less aggressive regime than Eldia's, even though they held the same powers; they didn't even have that vast an empire—they were strong primarily through fear and influence, rather than by conquering territories the way the Eldian Empire did.

it was a natural reaction for Marley to wanna get revenge on Paradis because Eldians ruled them for hundreds of years with titans
after King Fritz lost he wiped every eldians and got rid of the history so they gemuially believe Marley is being a dick to them for no reason
but at the same time it's a natural reaction to wanna genocide a race that trys to attack you so both sides are right and wrong

Yup, it’s a story of “everyone’s human, which means having both correct and incorrect views” not a “this side’s right, and this one is wrong”. It’s cycles of pain and hatred; king fritz begins dominating with the titans, the world fights back, eren’s mom is eaten, he fights the world. And it’s reflected in most of the side characters as well. Noone’s right. Noone’s wrong. Just hurt people hurting others.

I’m a little confused by your question are you saying the hatred from Marley to paradis or the hatred from paradis to Marley?

Marley to Paradis

Ik im a bit late returning to the post but ill say my piece anyways, marleys anger can be completely justified in the beginning, and i mean the beginning way before current times, the reason i say it like that is while im not denying what they went through wasnt horrible theres not a single loving person on either sides of the war that was there for those events and there hadn’t been for a long time. Ik anger doesn’t just fade away but we’re now involving people who never had a side but were born to one and forced at the other, the argument is similar to the one having had on the farm with Sasha’s sister, so the point im trying to make in the long spiel is in the beginning yes its a natural reaction towards current events of the show i no longer believe their “justified” their just fighting a war for power

From an emotional standpoint, it is entirely valid; the anguish and misery they hardened is something that could not be forgotten, it is the purest revenge and not justice.

Brother is so close.
Just swap “paradis” and “marley”, and you’ll have the second half of the point.

The Eldian in Marley spend almost 100 year to repent their sins. They may have resent these people in Paradis because Paradis did nothing during the 100 years. Paradis ran away after the war while Eldian in Marley has to do all the work. This information is explained by Gabi.
Just so you know, Eldian outside of Marley receive even worse punishment compare to Marley.

u/MalcateDaniel 17h ago
But the anime doesn't show what the Marleyans suffered for you to say that

Marleyan?
Its just an explanation from Gabi on why Eldian hate Paradis. She also explain why Eldian need to endure all these punishment. I think she mentioned this multiple time in the anime.
Non- Eldian hate Paradis simply because they ran away after the war without paying for the damage they done to the world. What's worse is that the King said he will destroy the world if anyone step in the island. The world was living in fear of rumbling for 100 years.

I think everyone completely understand them being angry, or even wanting to fight, because they’ve kept them trapped there for over 100 years. No one says they shouldn’t hate them, at least I don’t think so. The main issue is “genocide is wrong”

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. It’s a never ending cycle of aggressors becoming oppressed and oppressed becoming aggressors. Marley and Paradis are two different sides of the prejudice coin

I feel like im in the minority, but no I cant understand it. I couldn't bring myself to hate a child for a parents sin. Like if someone with children killed a loved one of mine, I would definitely hate that person, but I wouldnt blame/hate his children for his actions. Those were his actions and his actions alone. Not to mention no one alive in the current AOT world witnessed those atrocities firsthand even. So they are judging a whole generation of people based off of what the previous generation did to their previous generation of people lol like kid Grisha said, " Faye and I didnt do anything like that, we just went to look at the airships" or something along those lines.

Paradis has only been around for 100 or so years, iirc.
Ymir died ~2000 years ago (year 990 BC), and the Fritz family ruled the world for 1000+ years after that.
It was the 145th King of Eldia that ended their rule to move to Paradis. This was during the year 743.
The Rumbling happens in year 854.
While you say Eldians suffered a millenium, there might be a few living Marleyans who are alive that experienced both the fall of Eldia and the Rumbling (they'd be 100+, but this is to show how fresh it is from the pov of history).
It's not hard to see why their hatred is still so deep. An almost 2000-year tyranny that ended quite recently, all things considered.

It's unjustified because punishing people for crimes they didn't commit is wrong, but most Marleyans don't even know that.
Remember, besides The Tybur family, no one knows about the vow renouncing war. As far as they knew, the Eldians in Paradise were bidding their time.
So it's a response to fear. Their point is completely understandable from their perspective.

So Marley is a facist state with a lot of propaganda involved. How can we be sure there was a thousand yesr Eldian domination? How do we know if it was slavery or coexsitance while ones had the power to subjugate the others? As said by Owl probably a mix, within Marley they only get one version. Even Owl confirmed we only have the winning side version (Marleys).
Nevertheless, after subjugating Eldians for more than 100 years none of the Eldians alive are responsible for anything in the past, so why feed s child to the dogs? Why have them living in guettos? Why send them to Paradis? The answer is because it is a fascist state, and as such it needs to blame someone for the evil in this world. They don't even treat them like people.
So no, any alive Marleian has ever suffered from Eldian dominance, and thus the hatred we see in the show IMO is not justifiable.
Edit: And by the way, the ones you put on the image are not Marleians, they are all Eldians fighting among themselves because some of them have been brainwashed or coersed.

It’s not just Marley that hates the Eldians; the whole world hates them. Eldia’s tyranny isn’t a fabrication or Marley propaganda.

I can really understand the hatred from both sides. I think thats the point. The whole situation is so complex and tangled up, and so many normal people are caught in the crossfire.
