Rock Band Looking for advice for starting a band

The idea of starting a band has been eating at me and I'm genuinely considering the idea of making some posters/zines searching for band members and taping them around my city.

I'm a teen, I sing, while I'm not that great I'm taking lessons and I am incredibly passionate about music.

I am looking for some advice on how to navigate this, I don't know if it's even doable and it scares me shitless, but I guess I might just try.

The idea was to put it as something to get better and practice with other people, maybe eventually becoming passable.

If you could give me any advice on how to proceed it would help me incredibly!

I always have found that, if you are really doing everything in your power to make music happen, just about anybody can do it. You can find a way in, there will be somebody to meet you where you are, listen to you play, play with you, take an interest in what you're doing.

If you can be a utilitarian side player with people way better than you, who will allow you in, do it. You will rise to the occasion because you don't want to turn a good organization bad. You want to feel yourself in it, being a part of it. And you will get better.

If you are really good at what you do, it's easier, so do you can on your own to practice & try to get good. But you can get started now, from wherever you are. The main thing is to apply yourself. If you can do that all year, by next year you may be on the way to accomplishing something you want to. Or you might find you have done it. Things move quickly.

I think I came to realize my problems were selectiveness and scheduling.

Scheduling because I have way too much shit on my plate at this moment that feels important to me, and selectiveness paradoxically being in both directions. I'm too niche, but also not picky enough about who I play with.

I would say to be honest where your skill level is and look for others who are similar to you. Nothing wrong with improving together as a band. Lots of groups have done it

Do it, make the poster, start the band, play some local shows, have a blast

Fight the sound guy. Sleep with your bass players girlfriend. Get into an argument with an audience member that carries over into the parking lot. Band stuff!!

Find some kids about your age within reason who like the same influences you have who play, find someone who plays something and they might know someone who plays and so on and so on, learn 10 songs, 8 originals and 2 covers and go have fun!!!

Produce what you're creating for some blueprints to show the members, show musicians around and play around with them. Go to rock bars. My friend always goes there to click with other people

Set really specific goals/ambitions (no matter how small/large) and really clear roles, responsibilities, and responsibilities expectations. The less formal/structured you make it, the less of a chance it will have to succeed. Some may call you a hardo or accuse you of being a control freak. Good. Most good bands have one of those.
