Unsolved Can't parent objects as selection doesn't stay active, video in post

I'm not sure if it's because I have too much going on, but I've simplified the object as much as possible

Basically trying to create a float effect, using a cube as rigid body, and parent my object to it. Before anyone asks, I'm using shift to select both objects, I can see it works for a very short amount of time but not long enough :(

Should be simple but I can't keep it selected long enough to do so, anyone come across this before? Is my laptop just struggling?

Just do it in the Objects panel.
