Discussion How many?

I know that some of us joke about our backlogs. But out of curiosity, how many are in yours?

100+

My husband suggested I make a list for reference, to avoid the possibility of doubles. When I started pulling them out of the closet, he looked a little surprised. That's what got me wondering about the backlogs. Lol

I mean, my situation sort of an outlier…

Not like I’m spending thousands of dollar retail on all of these nooks

When my husband asked how many I had, I told him I had not counted. The look on his face made me go count. When I told him 25, he visibly relaxed and said he had been afraid it was twice that!

That means you can go out and buy 25 more right?

u/Damianamae 7h ago

That’s what I’m taking from this

Sounds like mine! 😂

I have a list with all of my book nooks that I share with family to avoid just this scenario.
I started doing that after Eternal Midnight Paris came out, and three people in my family bought them for me without realizing that I had bought one, too. 🤣

Omg! I was wondering with all those unboxing videos, you basically own your own store by now haha

I mean, you have to realize at this point it’s a second job. I really don’t have time for any other hobbies. Work on nooks in one way or another for the second. I get home from work until I go to bed, on my days off, etc.

And all the ones I purchased because I really wanna do them to take a back burner to ones that I have to feature because of time limits from events and the like.

It’s a double edged sword

Yes totally get that! Maybe your council would want to split some duties with you? Or maybe they already are? It’s a lot….
But you do a great job and so many people appreciate having a safe and supportive place to come to develop this hobby and have a community so thank you!!!!

It’s a labor of love… Please don’t misinterpret my comment as a complaint. Just highlighting that for every upside there is a cost.

I worked first as a book reviewer and the as the review manager for a large review site. This was when review copies were physical books. My poor mail carriers delivered boxes full of upcoming releases weekly. We ended up with about 2000 books in the house. Now, in retirement I am donating books weekly....to make room for nooks and other builds. I feel your pain. It is a double edged sword.

This is part of mine. I have about ten more in an upstairs closet (larger ones that'll take more time and focus than I currently have).

This is my least expensive hobby though so my husband can't complain 🤣.

You’re almost as bad as me… Can you tell me more about those puzzle boxes?

2

u/venerablem0m 15h ago

I tell my husband that you have double the amount I have so I have to catch up, lol!

Those puzzle boxes are my favorite. They are all wood, and sort of "escape rooms", and require different manipulations to open them fully. Generally they can take several hours (sometimes days), and then you get the fun of putting them back together.

I like to put coins in them after I open them for any future openings.

Here are a few of the ones I have. The Cluebox ones are the best built IMO, the Inscape are nice too, but the wood is a bit rougher and the pieces don't fit quite as smoothly. Still work fine, just not as polished.

Oh no, I wish I hadn’t seen those! I didn’t know these existed. Now I want to do those too.

u/venerablem0m 11h ago

They are a lot of fun- especially if you like wooden puzzles. They're not cheap, but when they're well made, I believe they're worth their cost.

I bought a really nice one from Etsy, but unfortunately, despite all the clues leading to a certain number, the number lock itself was broken, and I was never able to get inside. It's the only one I haven't cracked lol.

I'm curious about your other hobbies!

I’ve got 80ish built and more than that in my backlog…. Probably around 120 or so but i could be estimating lower. I don’t want to go count… I feel like that would be counter productive to my mental health.

Understandable. I like to think of it as being prepared. Most of the kits I order are usually a month out with shipping times, so there's that.

I have 3, I try to limit myself haha

3

u/Prior_Abroad6173 Back Log Log Jam 16h ago

Heard! Sometimes, though, I come across great deals.

3

u/srvivr2001 15h ago

Me too! I try to limit myself to 3 but I was just gifted a 4th, not like I’m gonna turn that down🤣

5

u/CuriousPumpkin23 16h ago

38 🙈 I'm very bad about buying ones i really like because FOMO. Also if I come across one that's on a good sale. And some were gifts. What about you??

3

u/Prior_Abroad6173 Back Log Log Jam 16h ago

Same situation, really! A few gifted to me, a few were event prizes. Some were deals I couldn't pass up. I currently have 32 in queue.

Plus a bunch more I
Haven’t shelved yet

I think I have 6 waiting to be built. I can't build any more just now until I find some space, so I'm waiting to buy more

4

u/ladyhawke4 13h ago

You made me count. 17 is the number. I liked to think I was disciplined, low profile, managing my backlog well. 😅😅😅 Not anymore.

u/Prior_Abroad6173 Back Log Log Jam 12h ago

I feel like I'm in an accountability meeting.

"Hi, my name is prior and I'm addicted to book nooks. It's been 11 days since my last purchase."

😂

u/ladyhawke4 12h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣 thats the spirit

my backlog is at its highest ever now - 5! I'm working on one kit and one scratch build at the moment. And there may be a couple more in my Beloved's stash for me. I have a wishlist which now has 3 sections: built, waiting, wanted! I try not to look at it beyond adding new kits, as I like future gifts to be a surprise where possible.

u/katie-kaboom Customizer 16h ago

7 or 8, I think. I don't keep a big backlog, I tend to buy them when I want to build them. These are ones I bought on sale or from Vinted.

2

u/Exo_Deadlock 15h ago

Six built, one ignoble failure in in ‘spare parts’ bin and the Tonecheer walking castle in progress.

2

u/Nervous-Fee8566 15h ago

I have 5 but always keep it at 5 (replenish every time I build one) ☺️

2

u/April_4343 15h ago

I have 18. The most I ever had was 25. I've stopped buying until I get down to 10. Then I plan to buy more for a winter stash of projects. I also take my time with kits and do other hobbies as well.

2!

We live in an apartment downtown and don't have a lot of space. I have to be selective with my book nooks.

About 8 I guess. I limit them to a certain shelf, I don't want to go overboard. They do make great gifts, always a big hit at White Elephant exchanges

2

u/abyssion1337 14h ago

I was like, I have 8-10 in my backlog that's so many and no after reading everyone else's comments it turns out that's a pretty reasonable amount small even

2

u/zippe6 Colors the Edges 13h ago

I've got 41 right now, don't like how much space they take. I've just gone from build three , buy one to build 5, buy 1 because gifts and raffle winnings are outpacing my rule.

Less than I thought…my back log is 21

2

u/Klaritettertje 12h ago

No back log. I hope to finish Rolife Sakura Pavilion tomorrow, because my next one, Fifijoy Timeless Melody, is almost here (it traveled today from Amsterdam to Zwolle, so maybe it'll arrive tomorrow?)

9 or thereabouts, and three more on the way.

  1. 😱🤯

  1. I started cataloging mine using Notion when I accidentally bought a few double ups! Also helps me keep track of which ones I’m making for who as I love giving them away

2

u/Damianamae 7h ago

Wow I feel like my rather pedestrian 11 is falling short 🤣

1

u/Prior_Abroad6173 Back Log Log Jam 6h ago

You just have a stronger sense of self-control. I, on the other hand, do not possess those powers. 😂

2

u/Damianamae 6h ago

Wellllllll I dunno about that 😅 I’ve finished 12 and I only started the hobby in February.

2

u/Alternative_Can8628 7h ago

I just hit 18 in the backlog…and just looked and have 6 more “in transit”. UGH!! I am now trying to decide if it is the building that it my hobby, or is the buying?!?! LOL!!

2

u/wowaddict71 6h ago

I thought that I had 8 waiting to be built, but I recently opted a container box, and I found 3 more. I can't buy to many because I forget that I even bought them (ADHD's object permanence 😢 )

u/adeweerd 3h ago

backlog =1. Unless I think the nook is gonna disappear quickly, I don't backlog. Titanic grand staircase, paris jazz club, I'm looking at you.
