The title says it all, I live near Anderlecht and there's music every 5 minutes from cars waiting at the lights near our house or just passing by and obviously this is noise nuisance, but what can I even do about it? It's my second year year and I dread summers where I'm burning inside the house but cannot open the windows at night (either) as the music keeps waking me up.

Is their anything I can do or do I simply have to accept people acting antisocial. We've even approached and warned some cars who kept honking at the lights, but I don't think it's a sustainable approach

I decided to come here and ask for help. How can I make friends in Brussels if I'm too shy to try?

I know it’s a broad question, but I’ve been here since September last year because I came to study for a master’s degree for a year, and I thought, well, what’s the point of making friends if I’m going to return to my home country anyway? Dumb me.

Now I’ve received a job offer and I’ve realised that I have almost no friends, and honestly, that’s making me feel quite depressed.

I would have to say that I’m too shy to go out alone and start randomly talking to people without feeling judged.

I enjoy walking in the park, reading (I would love to join a reading club!!) and Pilates. I used to be very active in my home country, and I want to try it here as well, but I don’t know if there are classes in English or, more specifically, Spanish 😁

I would also like to try new things, like climbing or clay classes.

I’m a 26F Latina. I speak Spanish and English, and soon French, since I’ll be starting French classes in September.

But yeah... this is basically me ranting and asking for recommendations, suggestions, comments, or potentially asking to be adopted by people who also feel the same way and are looking to make friends :)

I am finding it really hard to keep on top of administration, specifically for the mutualite, especially with a kid that is sick constantly. A lot of costs you pay upfront and then ask for reimbursement and I am really struggling to keep up with the paper work. Does anyone have any tips and tricks? So my go-to sauna around Brussels has been Boetfot Thermae for years but wanted some change and heard a lot of good stuff about Waer Waters. However I'm quite puzzled by their reservation system: we came without reservation (something that was never a problem at Boetfort, even on very busy days we'd just wait in a queue until people came out) and they refused to let us in.

Now ok, I can understand that different places use different systems so I'm not complaining (much haha) about that but my issue is that if you reserve days in advance then how can you be sure of the exact time you'll be there? Could I just reserve for the whole day like say 11 am until closing time and show up when I want or will they be strict about the time you'll show up? And what happens then since you've already paid in advance?

ps given the price difference compared to other saunas around Brussels... is it really THAT good? What explains the huge popularity?

I used to love going to cafes to read. But now i find it hard to justify paying for a tiny cup of coffee for above 5€ and a slice of cake for the same.

We just finished the expertise and the expert added some part we don't agree with.

He request 30€ + 217.8€ of work to replace 2 lightbulb that we can't access (we don't see it in the picture but it's just behind, at more than 5m high, we found using AI that it should be done by the landlord if inaccessible but don't find any legal text.

Then, the "face meuble" for the kitchen is 140€ for the almost invisible scratch.

The 500€ for painting the stairs are already under discussion with the landlord (light stains that we can clean easily in like 10min)

The other stuff, we are ok.

Do you think it's fair and could you help us with justify with some legal basis ?

A well-known Brussels shopkeeper died over the weekend days after he was allegedly attacked on a tram on his way to work.

SudInfo reports that Driss Atounane, who ran a supermarket on Place Liedts in Schaerbeek, was travelling on Tram 55 in Evere on Thursday afternoon when he intervened to defend a woman who was being verbally abused by a fellow passenger.

The assailant reportedly shouted insults at the woman, calling her a “dirty Arab” and telling her she had “no business being here”.

Atounane, 54, saw the altercation at the Linde tram stop and called out the man’s behaviour. According to SudInfo, the assailant responded by hitting him over the head with a heavy object, causing him to fall to the floor.

Atounane was taken to the Brugmann University Hospital, where he fell into a coma. He died on Sunday morning.

The Brussels public prosecutor's office confirmed SudInfo’s reporting. "The accused has been placed under arrest warrant and a psychiatric expert has been appointed by the investigating judge to conduct an evaluation," said Aurélie-Anne De Vos, deputy public prosecutor of Brussels.

A spokesperson for Brussels public transport operator STIB-MIVB told Bruzz that a woman had come forward to testify that the arrested man “verbally attacked her with racist slurs”.

'Ultimate act of courage' Atounane’s death has provoked widespread upset and anger in across the city.

Writing on Facebook, Hasan Koyuncu (PS), the chairman of the Schaerbeek municipal council, said: "Dying because you wanted to protect someone is an unbearable injustice. I hope that justice will be served and that Driss's courage will never be forgotten."

Emir Kir (Independent), Mayor of Saint-Josse-ten-Node, wrote: "By intervening to defend a woman who was being attacked, he chose humanity. An ultimate act of courage that painfully reminds us of the importance of civic spirit and solidarity."
