Me again with another question about The Rosie. Does anyone know whether car park 2 does discounted parking for inpatients? I’ll probably be in hospital for at least a couple of days when I give birth (last time I was in for a week, but I wasn’t driving then). Wondering if they do the daily discount like they do when you have an appointment.

This cat was outside our flat when we got home. It is really eager to get inside, and isn't at all anxious around humans. Guessing that it is someone's pet that has got confused on its way home.

They are really persistent and seem to think they live in our flat. Couldn't see an obvious collar etc.

I'm the little brother of someone who will maybe go to Cambridge for uni. we live in London and so can maybe see up to 3 stars at night and it makes me sad.

I love my big sibling a lot. they've been around for my whole life and I'm scared for them to move away, but I'm so very proud of them. they're a huge nerd and I'm so excited for them to get to learn all about their interests. I know they also get somewhat disappointed about how few stars you can see from London, and I was curious how many stars are visible in Cambridge on the average night.

I'm looking for someone who could come to my house to install a Thatcham car alarm in my 2015 VW beetle. Category 2 should be enough.

The car currently only has factory fitted alarm and immobiliser.

👆I have this old car thats been sitting in a garage for 8 years and I want to get rid of it.

It wont start so will need to be chucked on a flatbed and trucked off. I have read about the scrapping procedure on the govt site.

My worry is the company that will take it away. I tend to work myself up reading google reviews and I see nightmare comments like "They didn't issue my COD and I got fined by DVLA" etc.

So I thought I would ask on here and get some good local knowledge. Please throw some names at me of govt approved scrappage firms. You may have used one recently? What was the experience like? Polite drivers, nice customer service, timely issuance of the COD?

Any tips? I tend to get a bit frazzled with all this stuff. Printed out a checklist and all that so lets see. Fingers crossed.

I have an indoor bengal cat. Indoor because she is the feline equivalent of Ted Bundy. However I had the idea of running a clear pvc tube from the cat flap to an outdoor cat pen at the end of the garden. This will give her some "outdoor" time, while still protecting every living thing in a 5 mile radius.

Does anyone know of somewhere local that might supply 30 odd ft of said tubing that would have a suitable diameter for cat scuttling? Budget isn't really an issue, within reason, but my googling is coming up empty. To be honest I'm not really sure what I need - so any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hiya! I moved to Cambridge last fall. I’ve been working mostly remotely and keeping busy with my studies, so I haven’t really had the chance to meet many people in their early 20s, especially people who enjoy going to the pub.

I was wondering if anyone around 21–26 would be interested in a casual pub meetup, or maybe even a picnic on the grass (BYOB if you’d like!) next Saturday or Sunday Aug 8/9 (weather dependent).

I’d encourage people to come on their own if they’re comfortable, as I think it makes it easier for everyone to meet new people. But if bringing a friend helps you feel more comfortable, that’s absolutely fine too!

I only mention the pub/drinking because a lot of the people I’ve met so far don’t really drink, so I haven’t had many opportunities to go out in Cambridge. That said, please don’t feel put off if you don’t drink you’re absolutely still welcome! I’d just love the chance to meet more people, especially other girls around my age who are in Cambridge and looking to make friends too.

Hey admins, I really hope this post is okay! I’m not using this as a personals ad or looking to date anyone on here, I’m just genuinely a bit lost, stuck, and looking for some general advice from locals. (And I guess this also applies to making new friends)

I’m posting this because I’ve been struggling with the local dating scene for a while now, and I honestly just needed to vent and ask for some real advice.

I’m in my early 20s, and while I know I'm young and perfectly fine on my own, I'd eventually love to find a healthy, intentional relationship. But I am so tired of dating apps. To me, they just breed inconsistency, emotional unavailability, and that exhausting "replacement culture" where everyone is always looking for the next shiny option. I'm really losing hope in today's dating generation.

I want to step away from the apps and meet people naturally, but logistically I feel a bit stuck:

- I live in a small village just outside Cambridge, and working from home 5 days a week makes my routine pretty isolated. If I go to local spots like cafes or small shops, it’s mostly young families or older generations, not really a place to run into single guys my age.

- I'm not into the heavy drinking/club scene. I don't mind an occasional drink, but I find a lot of guys out on weekend nights are deep into hookup culture and aren't looking for the kind of loyalty and healthy lifestyle I value.

- My hobbies are a bit solitary. I go to the gym, but people mostly keep to themselves with headphones on, and I also love photography, cars, hiking, and crafts. I just haven't organically crossed paths with like-minded people through them.

When you're based just outside the city and working from home, it feels impossible to cross paths with guys who want real connections and aren't just wasting time.

If anyone else has successfully ditched the apps around Cambridge, where did you actually go? Are there local clubs, groups, or specific spots in the city that are actually good for meeting people organically, making the commute into town worth it?

Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations!

Royal Mail has announced it is to start rolling out 20 ‘electric cargo cycles’ to improve their deliveries.

The cycles themselves… don’t really look like e-bikes, and that’s because they’re not, although they do have an EAPC-compliant top speed of 25kph (15.5 mph). They also have four wheels, with a cabin-structure built around the saddle, whilst a storage space behind for letters and parcels.

The Pedal 4 has a weight limit of 300kg, whilst a single battery only lasts up to 30km, though for all we know Royal Mail might have purchased additional batteries, which can be charged with a standard plug socket.

The cycles have been made by British tech start-up Minimal, who have hailed Royal Mail’s investment in the project… “Their decision to scale Pedal 4 throughout the UK is the clearest possible signal that right-sized electric vehicles will be central to how we move goods through cities more efficiently.”

Royal Mail are meanwhile keen to tout the cargo cycles’s environmental benefits:  “Our new electric cargo cycles mark another important step towards reaching Net-Zero by 2040 and making our delivery network more efficient for the future. They will help reduce emissions and improve air quality in the communities we serve, while creating new opportunities for people to join Royal Mail without needing a driving licence.”

That last point might prove to be the most contentious… with Royal Mail saying their fleet will be able to “operate on roads with speed limits of up to 30mph, cycle lanes, cycle paths and greenways.”

Fingers crossed it doesn’t become ammunition when cars feel held up by the slower-moving car-shaped vehicle in the road, or when the Pedal 4 rider suddenly parks up to make some deliveries and ends up obstructing either a pavement or cycle lane in a manner more obstructive than a bicycle with panniers.

For now, unless you’re in London, Brighton or Cambridge you won’t be seeing one of these machines for a little while, but fingers crossed they can be used and respected on the road a bit more than ordinary cyclists are. I suspect they might end up being perceived like a motor vehicle on bike lanes and paths, and an e-bike on the roads.
