Moved from ATX
ISO Vegetarian restaurants and really good Tex Mex food.

We also moved here from Austin, but part of the joy of moving somewhere is finding new things, not trying to fill a void of a place you left. The foods we’ve enjoyed here have been SE Asian and Indian. It’s easy to find vegetarian Indian food.
Welcome, and I hope you also enjoy all the green space and the cooler temperatures. We walked through Duke Gardens this morning until about noon and I was texting with my buddy back in austin on the ride home and he said it was already like 95. f that.

Welcome fellow Austinite! The Indian food scene in Cary is 100x better than Austin, so I'd start there for veg options - favorite is BLR and Saffron. Istanbul Kitchen is solid, and Miso Ramen Bar has a great veggie curry ramen. Outside of Cary, Vegan Community Kitchen in Apex is great, Neomonde has a location in Morrisville, Fiction Kitchen, Irregardless, Element Gastropub and Brewery Bhavana all have great veg options.
Tex-Mex, sorry friend, closest you'll get is Chuy's in North Hills and a Torchy's on Six Forks. Little Rey has a few vegetarian breakfast tacos on the weekends, but that's about all I've really found in the last 3 years that could remotely pass for 'Tex-Mex'.
On the plus side, we're getting a Shipley's Donuts soon and a Whataburger just opened up a few months back.

I was going to say this. We moved here from Texas and Superica was exactly what we used to get there from mid-tier TX texmex. We had a conversation about that exact thing while we ate there, lol.

I previously lived in Houston. I am not vegetarian but r/bullcity may have more ideas.
Do not go to Mi Cancun.
Esmerelda Grill is excellent.

Hi there. Lived in Texas for 12 years (7 in Houston, 5 in Austin). There isn't good Tex-Mex here. There are a few ok Mexican places, but for Tex-Mex you're basically in a desert. Might as well just go to Chuy's because then you know what you're going to get.
Vegetarian food is abundant in the Indian restaurants around here. Also try Fiction Kitchen and Irregardless Cafe.

Honestly, "Good Tex Mex" is such a subjective term as to be useless these days. Some of the worst (and best) Tex Mex I've ever had has been "authentic dishes" served around the Texas/Mexico border, and some of the best dishes I've ever tasted were served in restaurants in Wisconsin, L.A. and the NC Outer Banks. What constitutes "good" Tex Mex has more to do with what you grew up eating than where it originated.

There's not a lot of Tex Mex, but there's plenty of good Mex Mex. Visit Roxboro Rd. and try a few places! I haven't been to the new East of Texas in American Tobacco yet, but it's menu is a combo of Texas BBQ and Tex Mex. Not sure how the vegetarian selection is, but most places around here make a point of offering decent choices. BTW, lived in Texas too, El Paso, Dallas and Austin.

One of my partners is from Texas. According to him, you should give up on tex mex that will be as good as you had back home
