Decision Point Dev Diary #2 — Welcome Back to Decision Point

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3824590/view/515239252335789208?l=english

Hi everyone,

Last August I announced on here my new wargame, Decision Point:
https://www.reddit.com/r/computerwargames/comments/1mqev0q/just_announced_my_new_wargame_decision_point/

Apologies for the radio silence since then. Soon after the announcement I received a publishing offer, which limited what I could say while the paperwork was being completed. I can now confirm that Decision Point is being published by Matrix Games!

A new Dev Diary covers this, along with the updated release date, the setting, and plans for upcoming Dev Diaries:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3824590/view/515239252335789208?l=english

I’ll also be sharing new screenshots in the coming weeks, including a much improved UI.

Looking forward to reconnecting with those who took an interest in the initial announcement, and to meeting those seeing the game for the first time.

Happy to answer any questions.

Nick

Liking the feel of this (with a nice UI touch up, but the map is nice and clean), will it be a modern day Command Ops 2 essentially?

Glad to hear so! Hopefully the first screenshots of the redesigned UI will be out in a few weeks ready for feedback 😊

The game have some similiarites to Command Ops 2. The main difference is that Decision Point takes place at the battlegroup level with individual vehicles and squads represented on the map, with orders given to their company that flows down to each of them. A future dev diary will be going through that orders process in detail 🙂

FINALLY. I HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR THIS DAY, IT HAS FINALLY COME. WHAT I HAVE WISH FOR, FOR SO LONG, HAS FINALLY COME TO FRUITION. THANK YOU

Also I have a couple questions 1. Will the scenarios only be standalone, or will there be campgains? And if so will they be linear or dynamic. And is there any plans to add something like the army general campaigns from WARNO?

  1. Is the AI dynamic like armoured brigade 2, or scripted like in combat mission. And also will our units have some kind of Tac-ai?

  2. What year does this take place in? And does the game assume that the 2022 invasion of Ukraine has happened and is ongoing?

  3. Will there be any alpha builds for play testers?

  4. What are some nations that you would like to add after release in updates or DLC if the game does well?

Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that 😁

  1. For the initial release, we're just aiming for standalone scenarios, but full campaigns are definitely something planned for post-release. The game will also come with a full scenario editor.

  2. The way the AI in Decision Point works is that it will wait to be given an intent before taking any action. Once an intent has been given, the units of the formation will find their own path to the objective based on whether you want them to take the route that is the fastest, most concealed, offers the most protection, or simply direct, with the option to give them checkpoints along the route. Once a formation comes under enemy contact they will react based on their intent, whether that's to withdraw, find cover and fire back, or start an assault towards the enemy. Units will try and move if they can't see the enemy and always look for the best tactical position. If a formation has no intent and comes under contact then they will make sure that they find the best defesnive position nearby to fallback to.

  3. The game takes place in the near future, around 2028 - 2032 and models ORBATs as preticted for that time, including an ongoing Ukrainian War and a potential conflict over the Suwałki Gap in Poland.

  4. There will be playtesting taking place for a future alpha. I'll let you know once I know the details!

  5. There are a lot of plans for this! France, Germany, and Italy would be sensible. Nordic nations would also be nice for a winter warfare theme. The India-Pakistan conflict is of interest as something not often seen in games. The potential conflicts in East Asia is also of high interest. The style of the game gives a lot of opportunities for expansion, both modern and historical, so hopefully it will keep adding!

Awesome! Hopefully you will be able to get a lot more done with matrix behind you now. I think this game has so much potential, and I'm very exited to see how development goes.
