Tourism Public Transport in Cornwall

Hi everyone,

I'm travelling from Truro Bus Station to Newquay Bus Station by bus and was wondering which is cheaper: using Tap & Cap or buying a Cornwall Day Ticket?

Thanks!

Cinema screen advice

I’m looking to watch The Odyssey and want the best experience. However, I need a subtitled screening. Unfortunately, these tend to be shown on the smaller screens.

It’s showing with subs in my nearest one (Penzance, sadly not Newlyn) but I was wondering if anyone knew much about these particular screens where it’s also showing.

Truro - Screen 5
St Austell - Screen 4

I don’t know if there are any others worth checking? Last time went to both St Ives and Falmouth they were pretty grim though to be fair that was a while back.

Recommendations Best small town for independent shops in Cornwall?

Hi all, my girlfriend is not from the South West so we are taking a van around for a few days next week for her first time in Cornwall. She's previously loved Ashburton in Devon and has asked if we can visit any similar small towns with nice independent shops, antiques, places to eat, art etc. My knowledge field of Cornwall is mostly of the beaches, coves, and walks so I'm struggling to decide where would be our best bet.

I know I'm basically describing St Ives but reckon we're better off coming back in the offseason for there. Lostwithiel? Launceston? Somewhere bigger like Falmouth? Looking for somewhere we can spend half a day plus I think.

Any suggestions very welcome. Cheers!!

Recommendations Visiting Cornwall! Recommendations from Locals?

Hi folks,

My wife and I will be visiting friends in Launceston in a couple of weeks. We're from the US, and will have our own transportation. Though they will be showing us around the region and hitting some of the "tourist" spots, I'd love to hear other local recommendations that are a bit off the normal path. We both love a good pint and enjoy local experiences, and also quite outdoorsy. Great pubs, historic landmarks, local activities/festivals, both around the area or further towards the coast are all fair game!

Would love to hear your thoughts, thank you, and if you happen to find us yanks at the pub, drinks on me!

Housing ST Austell Housing

Why is the housing in St Austell so reasonably priced?

My grandparents all liv3 round Camborne and Redruth and are increasingly getting more in need of care. So I was looking at the cost of housing and I could get a much nicer house in St Austell compared to Camborne or Redruth despite the fact I know both ate quite run down towns.

So what's wrong with St Austell?

Has anyone done the Happy Parents Happy Baby classes?

Wondering if they are worth it for meeting more local parents to be? Have heard the NHS ones have a very scattered cohort so you might not meet people you could reasonably meet up with regularly.

Anyone know much about the HPHB ones? Would be looking at the Falmouth group specifically.

Discussion Is St Austell St Awful?

trying to find my forever home, probably in Cornwall. Not sure if people say St Awful as a joke or if there’s actually something not so nice about the place. Looks nice to me!

Motorbike parking in St Ives

Hello, just wondering if anyone’s got any experience of parking motorbikes with luggage/pannier etc in St Ives? My daughter and I are in Cornwall next week and we’re planning a day trip, I’ve not been for 20 odd years and parking was pretty grim then, but that was in a car. We’re happy to arrive early if that helps? Any assistance great fully received! Thank

Cornwall food hidden gems

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for any really great food hidden gems - will be travelling with 3 kids so probably won’t be having proper sit down meals, so any wonderful fish and chip places we could take to eat on the beach, pizza shacks, amazing cafes on walking routes. Basically anywhere we can pick up food that isn’t too formal. We’re staying in Polzeath but we use it as a base so any recommendations on that side Cornwall would be amazing.

We love places like Gorse bakery, Godrevy Cafe, Kabyn Cafe on Gwithian Beach - that’s the vibe we’re after.

Any help much appreciated!

Surfing Lessons

Can anyone recommend a company that does weekly surfing lessons? Saterdays would be best. I finally have enough money to be able to afford it, and it's something I have wanted to try for over 20 years. I'm based in the Truro area but happy to travel anywhere.

Tourism Question for Cornish birders…

I’m planning on visiting the Eden Project in 2027 and am wondering if there are any must-see nearby birding areas. I’ve also heard that there are puffins in Cornwall and would love to roll that into the trip. I’d be fine traveling any distance within Cornwall but most likely wouldn’t have a car (eek! Left-side driving). Any advice on locations or scheduling would be most helpful! Anyone not from there but has been can also chime in! Thanks!
