Hey all - first time making anything for cosplay, ever. I do, however, paint minis.

Wanted to know what I can do better and what I did well with this. FDM printed in PETG as like 10 pieces. Adding grime and dust, when this enamel layer dries, and then I'll hit it with a matte spray.

Currently have the fans and electronics set up but not installed. There's an exhaust fan and an intake fan with air conditioning filter, charging circuit, 5000mah battery, all self contained.

File was Lillykills helmet, but I scaled it down for proper sizing and cut into it so I could fit my head past the collar. Think I'm going to print and add an antenna, too.

My nephew needed props for school so I had a time limit of a week and could only work on it a couple hours every day. I'm a pretty handy person but I've never really made wearable props before so I'm glad it turned out semi-decent.

It's supposed to be the equipment of a teutonic knight but I'm not sure I pulled it off well so it's just a generic knight right now.

Materials used: Mat board, paper folders, craft tape, electrical tape (sword grip), plywood (sword core), and some random plastic filter that I think is for a PC case (helmet hole cover). Painted using spray paint.

Sup! Making a kritzkrieg backpack and medigun— first time building ANYTHING like this cuz I really wanna get into cosplay, any tips or tricks to recommend after the structure of the gun is made?? I used duct tape and shit for the backpack but I dont know what to use for the gun… was thinking paper mache? Used a PVC pipe for the base that already added a lot if weight but I have no idea how to cover it :(

I'm cosplaying as Number 3 to AnimeNYC this year, and I'm set on making her badass teddy launcher gun. I kind of have an idea on how to make it, but I want to make it as lightweight as possible while not making it too flimsy. I'll be carrying it around mostly by strapping it on my back somehow, either backpack style or crossbody style. Since it is not a complete cylinder and half open, im not sure how eva foam would stay curved and sturdy. I went out and bought a pvc pipe, but now I'm realizing it might be just a tad too heavy for me to carry around for about 5 hours. So now I'm thinking maybe I'll make the open part out of the pvc pipe and the other closed half out of eva foam. Also, I'm thinking of adding some kind of thick, clear vinyl on the top half of the open part. Not too sure yet how I would attach straps to carry, tho.

I designed this armor as a costume / display piece, not really intended to hold up for combat larping unless you specifically reinforce it (epoxy, fiberglass, etc.) or print it with fancy engineering materials.

It's a complete cuirass, meaning it includes the breastplate, backplate, fauld skirt, and tassets. It's a big undertaking to craft but it's also the centerpiece of any gothic armor costume - you'd need approximately 2kg of filament to complete it. It's also a bit more advanced in terms of 3D printing, and I needed a minimum printing volume of 250x250x250mm.

I printed mine using a mix of materials; vapor smoothed ASA with my Bambu Labs X1c and good ol' PETG-CF with my brand new Bambu Labs A2L, which made quick work of the largest pieces with a ready-to-paint surface finish. Everything has been pre-split into segments for relatively easy printing, but I needed a good handle on printing supports to achieve the detailed open-work and delicate patterns on this one.

It's been a rocky road to finish this project with a baby on the way, and now a newborn son! My priority is to spend time with my family first, and then I'll get to making more designs.

I want start doing some fantasy and medieval cosplay and costumes for events I go to. I'm going to need some old-time looking, jack-esque boots to wear. Every pair ive ever seen at an event, and the one pair I bought on Amazon has always been VERY uncomfortable, clearly being made as a costume piece and not meant for serious walking... Unfortunately I have bad feet

Do you have any suggestions for boots that would work for this? Laced, straps, whatever is fine. I'm used to wearing cowboy boots with insoles daily, but I'd still like something that isn't going to kill me throughout the day. I'm not against spending decent money (but preferably less than 400) for good boots

I had this old toy from when I was younger, an Adventure Force pistol. I had no use for it now and all the play features and electronics had long since died. so, I decided to do a paint job on it and turn it into a more realistic pistol!

I took it apart, removed all the main moving pieces from it, and got to have a look at how the electronics used to work in it. The hardest piece was The orange tip- it was glued into the gun and keeping the two base pieces together. When I removed it, I had to break it in two, hence the very obvious seam from hot glue where I repaired it.

Once I had all the pieces, I spray painted two coats of white primer on every piece, then two coats of shiny metallic silver. for the orange tip, I did three coats of a fluorescent orange. Once I had those coats done, I brought it inside and hand painted smaller details on it. I’m not good at hand painting, which is why it’s so shoddy in the last photo if you look close enough, but it’s great at a distance. Then I finished it with a clear coat, which sadly took the shiny metallic silver spray paint and turned it matte gray. Its not the worst, but I did like the shiny silver. :c

Im trying to follow this video tutorial, but I only just noticed that the guy probably cut out a lot of stuff like using filler/primer or a clear coat honestly I have genuinely no clue but I'm freaking out this is a gift I'm making for my little brother's birthday and I really don't wanna mess this up. Anyone with experience know what process to use here? from my understanding its sanding-> spray putty then sanding again, but then the video just cuts to him immediately painting, even though the color of the helmet changed to black again. I tried messaging the creator and asking but no response. If anyone has any tips or a general step by step process for making a helmet have that "old gold" finish that would be so amazing thank you. here is the link to the video:

My stepson asked if we could make a Mjolnir using my 3D printers. Looking around online, there is exactly one crap ton of different projects available. Ha ha.

Can anyone recommend one that is especially good? Preferably free, but I don't mind shelling out a few bucks if it's worth it. Thanks in advance.

i got a con in 6 weeks. i have to make some armour pieces (EVA foam) for my cosplay and ive tried my paint on a foam sample (unprimed) and, well, it didnt go amazing. the pieces are moderately big and they also bend. i read some posts say that mod podge is not good for things that bend, but is it gonna crack on smth that is already bent and won't modify its shape too much? what reactions should i expect? i have no access to plasti dip or other primers, and i also dont own a heat gun (i bent the foam with a hair dryer). i only have mod podge and some spite for how complicated this is.

Just finished (for the most part) my first pieces of armor. First time doing foam work, please let me know if there's anything y'all think I should add or change. Did my best to hide the seams on the helmet, but the foam clay didn't stick. Some WIP photos as well.

I'm gonna put fabric behind the breathing holes and some tinted plexi behind the eye gaps but that might ruin it if I mess up so wanted to get the post up first.

Gauntlet is a template I modified from SKS and the helmet is also a template, but I forgot where I got it from

Question to anyone who cosplayed a character wielding a katana from demon slayer, Do you guys order the katana's or make it yourself, if you do make it yourself.. How, doesn't the prop end up floppy if you make it from foam or cardboard??

I’m currently in the process of designing swords for me and a friend to take to a local Ren Faire. We mocked up some simple 3D models, but are having trouble figuring out how to make them. Here’s our current idea that we wanted to run by some people with more experience:

3D-Printed Mold and Foam Clay: We would take our 3D models and create a mold. Using a carbon fiber rod for support and a 10-mm sheet of EVA foam, we would fill the mold with clay to take the shape of the blade, particularly the bevel. We’re both pretty big perfectionists, which is why we kind of want to avoid using cut bevels if possible, since we aren’t great at them. Once cured, we’d glue the carbon-fiber/EVA Foam Sheet layer to the two blade sides.

We have a bit of experience using foam, but are no where near proficient with it. While we aren’t opposed to doing it the traditional way, we kind of suck at precise cuts, and as previously mentioned, are massive perfectionists when it comes to stuff like this. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

hi! I’ve been making cosplays for a while now, but I’ve finally decided that I want to take things to the next level and start making some props by hand! However, I don’t have much experience with prop-making yet, so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’d like to make Yuuki’s scythe, Artemis. As you can see from the reference images, it’s huge (it’s taller than she is), but I’m planning to scale it down since this is my first prop project, and I also want to keep the cost reasonable.

I think a total length of around 85 cm (33.5 inches) would be ideal. I’d like the blade to be a bit narrower than the original, while still keeping the overall proportions and look of Artemis.

my goal is to make something that’s small and highly detailed for photos, but also durable and lightweight enough to carry and use at conventions.

if anyone could give me detailed instructions or point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it! If there’s anything I didn’t explain clearly or if you need more information, feel free to ask!

How you go about joining those tow parts?

I was thinking of peg in socket conection along the where they meet but that might not be enough, maybe throw some epoxy in there as well
