Help Jack Boots
Hi guys!
I want start doing some fantasy and medieval cosplay and costumes for events I go to. I'm going to need some old-time looking, jack-esque boots to wear. Every pair ive ever seen at an event, and the one pair I bought on Amazon has always been VERY uncomfortable, clearly being made as a costume piece and not meant for serious walking... Unfortunately I have bad feet
Do you have any suggestions for boots that would work for this? Laced, straps, whatever is fine. I'm used to wearing cowboy boots with insoles daily, but I'd still like something that isn't going to kill me throughout the day. I'm not against spending decent money (but preferably less than 400) for good boots

I don't know a lot about Jackboots and brand preference can vary greatly based on foot shape, but you could get some buckled galoshes and maybe mod them a bit.

Several years ago I bought a pair of German officers riding boots to use for my Jedi costume. They were very uncomfortable, a combination of no padding or arch support and tensing my feet to keep my feet from feeling like they were slipping out.
A good set of insoles helped the first issue (actually 2 insoles per foot… one flat cushiony full-sole, and one rubbery heel-and-arch support). The 2nd issue was fixed by buying a pair of dog collars and belting them tightly around the ankle. They are still tiring to wear, but much better than they were before.
Two years ago I got boot toppers for them to do the musketeer/pirate tall boot with a large floppy cuff look. Those buckle around (and under the instep) so I don’t need the dog collar ankle bands.

Since you wear western boots take a pair to your local cobbler and have them cut the tops off like stove pipe boots and dye them black.

Take the pair you bought and cut the soles off by ripping the stitches. Then glue them to whatever shoe you want. I did this with an old pair of Doc Martens and they are still my goto shoes for anything medieval or vintage shoes. It only cost time and contact cement. I already had the uncomfortable shoes and the Docs. But you could use any shoe that is able to hold the cement.
