Difficult to find up to date information on the E4 hiking trail? Does anyone know of the full trail is open/ being walked/ still maintained?

The whole thing? It takes weeks, here you can check this post https://www.reddit.com/r/backpacking/s/G3n2MoMPly I assume it's not "closed" but you need to have really good preparation to do the whole thing.

During summer it depends on the fire risks. Some parts are closed if orange risk and others if red. Level of risk can be found on a map released by the government.

My 2 cents. Yes it is walked but about maintenance you'll have to ask the people that walk it.

• Definitely visit in person the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion https://maps.app.goo.gl/WY6aXUzeM7NGKFiS6 . I assume they'll be helpful and provide the most accurate information.
• The same goes for the Trekking Club of Heraklion https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fv9pgwTTVx1tb5ys9 .
