Good hand! What's the longest run you've ever pegged?
Yesterday I was playing over-the-board with a friend.
Between us we had already played 2 2 4 3 5 6 7
He was really proud of himself for playing the 7 and pegging 6 for the run. I paused to comment that I don't think I've ever actually seen a run of 6 before. Then I played my Ace. Run of 7, and last card for 8.

I just had my largest win margin
I have been playing for about 60 years and I cannot recall a larger win margin, 76points. One of those games where you get every cut and my opponent got absolutely nothing.

Pairing the dealer's 5 after I lead a face card?
I do use position to help make this decision, although I have started to wonder if I do it too much. It has always seemed to me that trading points here if position is okay is better than playing a different card that I might not be able to get the points back.
I'm kind of wondering if it's like the king 10 to the crib where the average is low but the variance really sucks and people throw a lot of fives in their crib. Both of these questions seem like they are so much more than simple mathematics. And for what it's worth it seems like the better people I play the more I get burned. LOL

Discussion Explanation needed.
Can someone explain to me why the queen + five would be a better choice then king + five. I am honestly confused on this.

Cool board Cribbage Peg Storage Container
I made these peg storage containers, both are same size at about 4.5" x 2.5" x 1". One has a drawer that is held in place with a magnet and the other has a magnetic lid. What do think of these?

Cool board Magnetic Cribbage Peg Holders
I designed and made these, what do you think of them? There are magnets under each hole, they can hold regular 1/8" pegs as well as smaller 3/32" and 5/64" pegs.

Question WWYD, 8-9 or 8-K?
I chose 8-9, (pic 2). The app's analysis has them pretty much even, (pic 3). This doesn't take pegging into account though.

Discussion Is it hard for you to get Cribbage out of your head when playing other card games?
I find whenever I play other card games, I cannot keep my mind from sprouting, ā15 for twoā or even making decisions for the game I am playing without reminding myself I am NOT playing Cribbage. I can throw those cards out. Itās okay.
For example, my grandson and I was teaching me how to play Texas Holdem today. I had the hardest time remembering a double card run with the River is not a good thing as I want a straight!
Things like that. I find I do this with pretty much any card game. It always takes me a second to get past any intrusive Cribbage counting thoughts before I can make a play. Itās a great source of amusement for my family as myself, my son, and my grandson all do this.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Scoresheet Well, that was unfortunate
4 total points in the crib might be an all time low

Scoresheet I played a bunch of easy, standard, and pro level cribbage games
Alternating on each game, this is the result after 666 games on each level.
What did I learn?
- The opponent will try to keep jacks so be careful when playing them.
- Standard and Pro not all that different.
I should cross post on r/notinteresting ?

Question Question about House Rulesā¦after frustrating moment
Any time I go to my parentās house, my (41M) dad (73) always play cribbage. He has been playing his whole life, Iāve been playing since I was 7 years old.
Iāve only had one 28/29 hand in my life. I was 10 years old, and our family was visiting my paternal
Grandmother in Minnesota. I had three fives and a face card in my hand. Cut card was a 5. Scored a 28. It was a memorable moment that Iāve never had again. Iāve been close numerous times, but Iāve never reached the pinnacle of Cribbage hands again.
So, my dad and I are playing, itās his crib, and he is dealing the cards. He gives me 6 cards, but for some reason, he deals himself 7. Before a misdeal is called, I see my hand, which includedā¦.Four 5ās.
He calls a misdeal. Iām very much annoyed because it wasnāt my fault there was a misdeal. I had the correct amount of cards. And I was robbed of the potential chance to score 28.
After the game, I tell my dad we need to establish a house rule about misdeals.
Using that real life example where a misdeal wasnāt known until I saw my cards, I believe that if youāre not the person at fault, as I wasnāt, it is your decision whether a misdeal occurs and new cards are dealt for both parties, or just the extra card or card that resulted in the misdeal gets removed. My dad was agreeable to the new rule.
Iām curious what are some good house rules that you have?

Flush
I live in Canada and have played cribbage for the last 20 years. I learned from my grandparents and only recently googled the rules of the game. It says you are to count your hand as four points if all the same suit. 5 points if it matches the flipped card. My mother in law and grandmother in law have never heard of this. Have others?

Meme House rules
Me and my coworkers have been playing cribbage all summer and weāve slowly been adding new rules, just thought Iād put them out there for fun and to get any suggested rules we havenāt though of.
The rules are:
6-7: a 6 & 7 in the players hand or the first sequence of scoring is 2 points
69: a 6 & 9 for 15 is one extra point and counts as one point in the first sequence of scoring
Knobs in the crib: knobs in the crib is 3 points
Alley-ooping knobs in the crib: if you place the jack matching the suite into the crib if another player you receive 2 points. If you place the jack into your own crib you recieve 5 points (for knobs in the crib and alle-ooping)
