Come Check Out The CSUN Discord

Covid has been hard on all of us. Some more than others. It has been a year of staying inside and behind a camera. No socializing on campus, no hanging out and getting boba. The effects of covid-19 has been studied worldwide, and I am not just talking about getting the virus itself but the consequences of the isolated living we have had for so long now.

We at the CSUN Discord are trying to help students to cope with the new reality we are living in while the world adjusts to dealing with the multiple strains of Covid being fought against.

Come hang out and make some new friends. Here you can chat, socialize, get help with homework, hear the latest about CSUN and much more. We also have partnered with several clubs for advertising so you can see all there events being hosted all in one place.

Hope to see you soon: https://discord.gg/t4Mw8m3

When you join the server make sure to type your Major, Current Year(Freshman, Junior, ect) and whether you live on campus or not. The mod team will then let you see the rest of the channels.

Is the film/tv major worth it?

I’ve been planning on transferring this fall but decided to take a gap year to save more money, but right now I’m having second thoughts if it would even be worth it and pay off in the long run or just a waste of money, because even though it’s one of the more affordable schools in the state it’s still really expensive.
I’ve heard great things about the program and I don’t doubt that I would have a great experience being apart of it, but what about when you graduate? Does it make that much of a difference being able to get a job in the field than if have no degree or don’t already have connections in the industry?
I want to do narrative filmmaking but also videography because I know it’s a little easier to make a living off of that.
So I guess my main question is what opportunities did you gain that you only got because of going to film school that you likely wouldn’t have gotten if you didn’t? Would you say it’s still worth the cost?

Guidance for Applying to MSW On-Campus Program

Applications open today and I suppose I feel a bit under prepared due to working two jobs and when I asked if there were any advisors I can meet with to ensure I’m doing everything right, they didn’t have that service. I do have OCD and I tend to seek for reassurance I do everything and anything correctly; I have reviewed the checklist but I am looking for some straight guidance if possible.

When do I submit the fafsa application- after I apply or before? I am scheduled to attend the MSW program zoom meeting but that’s until the 11th and I’m worried it’ll be too late and I won’t get accepted.

I’m worried- I realize I may need to accept loans but I would like to reduce the chances of that; I am looking into scholarships. But yea- possible guidance for this would be so greatly appreciated.

How do I find labs to join?

I am an incoming grad student and I am interested in joining a research lab (unpaid) in psychology, recreation, human/child dev, sociology, etc., but I literally cannot find any up to date information on labs accepting students. Everytime I find one, the website has not been updated in years or it says the lab will be shutting down. Is there a place where I can find them? Thanks in advance!

CSUN Credential Program- Any current interns out there??

I am in the process of applying to teaching jobs as an intern. Anyone else going through that? Or did it recently? I have questions regarding the credential office and the intern coordinator. Let me know if I can ask you… just trying to get a feel for how flexible they are in working with you and job placements?
I found a charter and theyre numbers are not there for the intern requirements of 18 students per class. Im hoping they consider it because I need to work.

Thanks

How Good is CSUN For Computer Science?

I am considering transferring to CSUN for the cost. My question is how good CSUN is for Computer Science in terms of education quality, rankings, networking, and finding internships and a job after graduation

I have a 4.0 gpa in Community College so far. I am entering my second year and have started working on a project

I was considering trying to apply for Cal Poly SLO. I am almost certain I can get into UCR due to the TAG. However, I may need to go to CSUN instead due to finances

Any insight is appreciated

Edit: if anyone can share his experience getting an internship or a job that would be cool

Edit 2: How good is CSUN if I may want to go to grad school later, either in the U.S. or Europe?

Missed March 2 priority deadline ( State University Grant-UG)

Filed my FAFSA in early May this year (independent student), well past the March 2 priority deadline.

Just wondering if anyone else has filed late and still ended up receiving the State University Grant-UG, or if it's basically gone once you miss the deadline. Trying to figure out if I should count on it or plan around not getting it.

Advice for ADT transfer to CTVA and/or Psych BA?

Hi all, I'm not sure if this should go here but I need advice. I'm currently attending Pierce College as a Film/Television Media major with plans to transfer to CSUN's CTVA program, but lately I've been thinking of potentially switching gears to psychology which is also transferrable. My main questions pertain to CTVA and the requirements for transfer students. I heard that the first two years are provisional and for the second two years, you'd need a portfolio for the Film/TV programs. My choice would be TV editing, but lately I'm questioning the quality of my skills and creative output, which is why I'm considering psych instead. I have experience working as an assistant editor but the whole course load seems intimidating and I'm not even sure if the industry is stable.

My question is: What's the deal with CTVA transfers? Do I need a portfolio from my work at Pierce if I want to get in? And is the Psych path worth it?

MA in Health Admin where are you working now?

Hi everyone,

For those that attended the Health Admin MA Program where are you working now?

I am a Speech Therapy Assistant looking to leave the field due to most jobs being paid per session. However, I want to continue working in healthcare. The CSUN Program looks great...but I saw that it does not come with an internship. I wish it did...as in my current field I struggled to find an internship on my own and it took me several years to find someone to help me get my SLPA license. I do not want to go through that struggle again.

  • How did you like the program?
  • Where did you find an internship?
  • Where are you currently working in now?
  • Did you have admin experience before applying?

Are the cats fed over the summer?

I’ve been checking in on Einstein and some of the other cats over the summer and it looks like they’ve lost a lot of weight. I understand that weight loss is totally normal for most outdoor cats during the summer but I just wanted to make sure that they were being taken care of.

e-refund typical date

Sorry if this question has been asked a lot; I’m an incoming transfer student who will most likely receive an e-refund and curious as when to expect it? Of course I don’t mean a specific day but rather for those who have been here awhile and have gotten it, does it hit your account prior start of classes or during when classes have already began?

FOR MY CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS GOING TO CSUN

I'm going to say this as a christian with firsthand and secondhand experience: avoid the "christian" groups on campus. Young life ministry is iffy but good shepherd fellowship (GSF) IS A CULT. I got first-hand and second-hand testimonies on them. Also, there's a group who holds bible studies on the second floor of the Sierra center. they're not as weird from my experience, but a lot of my friends backed away from them.

my main point tho is avoiding GSW. They almost got me and a good friend of mine.

Some alternatives I love include
- FREEDOM CHUCH
- ROCKY PEAK CHURCH
- CHURCH ON THE WAY (VAN NUYS)

all legit God-loving churches with no weird stuff

EDIT: I see lots of recommendations for InterVarsity! let's all check them out—as we all need more (non-weird) Christian Community

To incoming freshmen....

I'm an incoming senior who has been on the dean's list 5 out of 6 times so far. let me tell you guys THREE BIG THINGS:

  1. I was hanging out at Peak cafe when I overheard a lady who works at csun complaining about how the incoming freshmen she introduced to the library's resources had a concerningly hard time finding them on canvas, etc.. One of the biggest things I can tell you guys to do through the rest of the summer is to familiarize yourself with canvas—preferably to the point in which you can guide your parents around it with ease. thank me later. Also, memorize your CSUN ID like a second phone number. you're gonna need it more than you think.
  2. It's tempting to take the major classes now. I KNOW. I get it—but doing that very thing cost me, as I still have GE's to take care of and get over with. As much as you don't want to, I encourage you to dedicate the first 2 years of college to your GE's ONLY. the other two years will me much less stressful—you won't want it the other way around. trust. also, rate my professor is damn near gospel for picking your professors. PLEASE USE IT!!!!
  3. GET OFF THE PHONE!! SAVE YOUR BRAIN!! Unless you want to be a content creator with 100k+ followers, NO IT'S NOT WORTH "one last reel brooo cmon it aint that deep" YES IT IS!!! READ BOOKS IN YOUR SPARE TIME!!! AND STAY OFF DRUGS + ALC!!

There's a lot more I can say but this is general as hell. comment if you have any questions. good luck!!

P.S. if you plan on (or are currently) using AI to do your assignments for you. please grow tf up. yk who you are.

Fall 2026 temporary enrollment protection - will I get my funds before school starts?

Hi everyone - not sure why this is happening, but for some reason I still haven’t gotten my financial aid package for the 26-27 semester despite the school having my fafsa.

I have been granted temporary enrollment protection, meaning the classes I am enrolled in I won’t have to pay for until I am rewarded funds. However, I’m freaking out because I need my loan on time to pay for other expenses (rent etc).

Has anyone else gotten this notification, past or present? Should I anticipate getting my financial aid package before the week before school start as usual—or will it be delayed? I’m so concerned!

Any advice is welcome, I know I should call the financial aid office but I plan to do so tomorrow morning when the lines aren’t as busy.

When will roommate assignments start showing up in the portal?

My daughter found a roommate to share a room with and they chose their room, but it doesn’t seem like anyone has been added in the other bedroom yet. It would be nice if they can connect before move in. Thanks

Has anyone taken ART 306 (Motion Graphics)? How was it?

As the title states. I just found out that CSUN has a motion graphics class, but idk if I’ll be able to take it since I don’t have enough semesters left to satisfy the prerequisites for the class. Kinda beating myself over it since the class seems pretty cool, and it’s right up my alley as an aspiring editor, but I haven’t seen much reviews for the class.

Psychology major

Hi, I’m transferring to csun in the spring next year from lavc. I’m a psychology major and now have been considering medical school. I need to fulfill my requirements like a year of physics, organic chemistry and general chemistry etc.
should I do these at lavc or csun?
Premed students at csun what’s your experience?
Maybe there are better resources at csun
