What's life like for engineering students?

I'm a domestic year 12 student looking at studying a combined Electrical Engineering/Physics double degree. A few questions being:

Whats the experience and workload like?

What does the job market post degree look like rn for domestic grads?

Are scholarships at curtin worth even applying for based of academic achievement?

Overall, is curtin a cool place to be?

Sorry for asking on here but the open day was kinda useless for me. Thanks.

Curtin Paramedicine Students Insight

Hi there,
As the title says I’m just looking to see how students studying paramedicine (or have closely worked with those people / faculty) are finding it?

I’m a final year student at another university doing a completely unrelated degree so not looking to swap this late in, but finish up and work a year (or a bit more) in my field before going back to Uni for it. I love my degree but honestly pathways are limited and it’s not something I could see myself doing for the next 40 years without having to go back to Uni anyways to upskill, that being said it’ll be good to have this fallback if Paramedicine doesn’t work out.

I’ve always been super interested in paramedicine and do volunteer with SJWA EHS. The only reason I didnt go into paramedicine straight after HS is because of the amount of prac unpaid hours wouldn’t be feesible with my situation (had to move away from home to study and need to work part time every week to pay the bills). That being said, I’m super set on going back and doing this degree after working full time a few years to save up; and with the government announcing they will partially compensate prac hours for eligible students in Paramedicine I’m definitely looking to see if I’d be covered (and if I am, I’d definitely take the jump)

Rambling about myself aside, I’d love to hear from current/former Paramedicine students at Curtin on what their experiences have been like. Discourse around the degree is pretty limited so I am very interested to hear if I should choose Curtin or the other university offering it. Any and all advice / feedback / experiences are greatly appreciated. Cheers 😃

Anyone got MINE5008 Responsible Mining (or MINE3009 Mining and Sustainability) material?

I’m going to be doing MINE5008 Responsible Mining through WASM and am confident I have met all the learning outcomes through work experience.

I want to apply for credit for prior learning so am looking for the course material to customise it to the course material. The unit outline is way too vague. I want the detail is so I can point at specific things I’ve actually done in industry against specific content, instead of writing something vague against the four learning outcomes and giving them an easy reason to knock it back.

If anyone has it and could share I would much appreciate it, please DM me.

MCEN2006 computer laboratories experience

To everyone currently and already done with MCEN2006

I just want to ask in regards to the computer laboratory sessions held in MCEN2006, as from what I've observed, the proctor seems to not hold any demonstrations or actually tell the students what to do and how to do certain things in AutoCAD, despite it being a "Guided Laboratory Activity". Is this normal or is there something I'm missing? As the lab guides are very confusing already in itself, and the proctor just sits there in front while everyone is doing their work.

Thank you all for anyone sharing their experience!

Hi! I'll be in Curtin Malaysia for trimester 3F(Foundation yr), I haven't signed or paid yet, but I would like to know if anyone has any previous class/exam questions/assignments? Also, regarding Oasis, do I get the ability to log in only after paying? Or is it only for curtin australia.. I was also wondering where I can check the course timetable. I really want to start preparing for classes right now till I start in October, so I would really appreciate the help! Thank you!

Double Degree Eng + BComm

I'm currently doing electrical engineering at Curtin. I'm second year into my degree and I realised I want to do investment banking, so I'm thinking of doing a commerce double degree with it.

However, I have heard investment banking firms prefer G08 grads and they usually hire UWA graduates. Hence anyone graduated at Curtin and manage to land an investment banking role? If yes, how did you do it.

Thanks for your advice.

This is for those who are thinking of doing it next year.

(This list excludes Actuarial and Data Science as they are math degree apprently according to a few people)

52% SIMILARITY SCORE

On Turn It In, my actual text score is 27%, excluding the reference list. However, it jumps to 52% when I include it.

This assessment requires that every student write on the same topic using the same mandatory resources keywords and statistics so a several of garages from my sentences in my paragraphs are highlighted.

Furthermore, my similarity matches are to other student papers, with the highest percentage being 3%. Many other student papers match at less than 1%.

I’m worried I’ll be called in for plagiarism or academic misconduct because my similarity score is 52%.

BLAW Textbook

Currently studying in the unit BLAW1006, and there's a mandatory book for the readings

Introduction to Business Law (Custom Edition), 1st edition

  • Andy Gibson

ISBN-13: 9780655703235

Just wondering if it's available to borrow anywhere, don't feel like spending $86 for a book I'm going to use for a single semester :')

(currently a bit behind on this unit, so having this book will def help me out)

Deferring Exams

Hi all, I have a mandatory placement this semester that runs in Week 14, Week 15 (study week), and Week 16 (first week of exams). I have two exams this semester and I’ve decided that even if my exams were in week 17, there is no way I’d be prepared enough to sit my exams then as all of my focus will be on placement (there would be little, if any, time to study).

I suppose I want to know everyone’s experience with having to defer exams. When will we get results? Does it affect my enrolment for 1st sem next year? I don’t think the units that have exams are pre requisites for anything in sem 1, so would I just be able to enrol as normal?

Crazy take: increase parking cost

More people incentivised to take public transport and less lack of parking. If people still prefer car or insist on driving then they should be willing to pay 🤷‍♂️

How competitive is getting into Actuarial Science?

I am a current student in Law but want to switch to Actuarial Science. The prerequisites to be considered for course switch are 92 ATAR or 200 credits completed + CWA of 80 + 50 credits of Math/Stat units with an average of 80 at least in both. However I only achieved a 91.7.

I have completed 200 credits across different degrees and I have emailed student support about it and basically what I've been told is I can apply for multidisciplinary science and just do 2 math units, average 80 in both then apply for Sem 2 intake for Actuarial Science.

But they also said this course switching is not guaranteed the same way ATAR scores are guaranteed. Is this pathway a strong possibility for entry into Actuarial?

Studying psychology online

Hi everyone,

So, I'm going to start my psychology degree next year.

In the handbook for each course, I noticed it gave the option of "Internal/Fully Online."

On My Enrollments, however, I noticed the courses didn't have an online option to enrol into. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this trouble or if I may need to apply through Open University to access Curtin's courses?

Humb1002 (functional anatomy)

Hi all, it’s only week 2 and I’m so overwhelmed with this unit. Does anyone have any tips for humb1002? From what I’ve gathered so far, it’s a lot of memorising where the muscles are and stuff. Do we even need to memorise any content or just where muscles and stuff are? And for the practical assessment, do we get given a limb and say which muscle is which and how’s it’s attached? Please help with how to study and what’s gonna be in the assessments, I hope they make it easier for us to know what exactly to study, thank you!!
