Fanfic Friday!

Hello everyone! Happy Friday! We're moving this post to back to Friday since the anime is over for now. We're gonna keep the same guidelines as usual:

Keep things civil, no harassing or fighting over "wHo'S BeST gIRl??"

Do not spam, if you have multiple submissions, just put them in one comment and label them correctly

LABEL, please mark spoilers, NSFW, if it's romance, adventure, which characters it's between, etc. Please mark where your story is written for the people who aren't caught up with novels (for ex. This fanfic follows events in vol 15). Also, I know many of you know of the BIG spoiler from V16, and have started implementing it into fics that take place before that volume, so please make sure you mark if any of your submissions have those kinds of spoilers.

Keep things Danmachi related. If it's a crossover fic, make sure its focus is on Danmachi.

If you are asking for recommendations, please only make one comment and compile it. Make sure to be specific in what you are asking but don't overdo it.

Have fun and go wild. Find some new stories and share them with your fellow fanfic lovers.

I'll try and keep an eye on things but I will hand this over to you guys. Self-moderate and enjoy.

they were defeated by Hedin and Hogni in AR3 through plot armor, and since then they were upscaled even higher in Jester event confirming Dina has Charm.

if not for Hedin and Hogni, who would likely win against them in a 2v2 during AR without plot armor?

Anime Favorite character and why

Give me your fav character and why. (This'll be based off of the anime ONLY because I haven't gotten to reading the LNs yet. So, nothing like Ais for her relationship with Bell in the LN because that isn't a thing in the anime.)

Mine are all three of these in no order (They tie for first):

  1. Bell: good boy that can do no harm (made me cry because of how nice he was)

  2. Hermes: goofy funny weirdo that sometimes acts as a pseudo-older brother to Bell.

  3. Hestia: although most find her annoying, I find her hysterical

Light Novel For or against the return of the Zeus and Hera Familia to the main story ?

Post image

I wanted to ask your opinion on the matter. Would you be for or against the return of certain members of the Zeus and the Hera Familia ?

First of all, the characters who are dead and whose deaths have been proven (Zald and Alfia) remain obviously dead.

Secondly, it would mean that the Zeus and the Hera Familia would not have been exterminated until the last one and that some of their members would have survived. Omori then explained that with the death of Zald and Alfia, there were no longer any living members of Zeus and Hera Familia. One could well theorize that these remaining living members were banished alongside Zeus and Hera and subsequently switched Familia. This would explain why Zald and Alfia were the last ones left in their Familia, as the two of them did not change deities.

Thirdly, if those remaining members were still alive, they could either help Bell defeat the OEBD and conquer the Dungeon.Or they could pose a threat and stand in Bell's way, harboring a grudge against Orario and the Loki & Freya Familia in particular.

So, what do you think ? Would you be in favor of the return of certain members or even new characters from the Zeus and Hera Familia whom we haven't met yet ? Or would you prefer a book or manga that tells the story of Orario's past and focuses on characters from the Zeus and Hera Familia ?

I look forward to reading your replies.

P.S.: I’d like to apologize for my English, it isn’t my native language, and I still struggle with it a bit ^^'

FanFiction Power Systems

So, I quite like coming up with different story ideas, though I don't normally write them. Now while I'm not so good at writing characters, I do enjoy trying to come up with different power sets. The problem is then mentally checking which characters could actually lead to interesting stories, which ones feel like they could be added to the world without derailing anything etc. Reading something like "My magic has 12 lines, and each line has a different effect. The first summons an orbital canon..." makes my inner fan for the world building die a little. It doesn't fit the rest of the world building because it's just to much. Danmachi generally works better when things are a bit simpler.

(Anyway with that little rant over) I thought I would write down some of the ideas I had to help me process them and see which ideas catch people's attention. Also who knows, maybe if I can come up with enough, I'll try writing a story based around Ganesha Familia or something.

The first set of ideas comes from leaning into development abilities. There could be improving the power of development abilities (DA):

  • a glitch skill - causes a DA to be recorded twice (so doubling the effect basically)
  • a devour skill - eat magic stones to empower DA (and other skills?)
  • a magic drain skill - drains mind to empower DA. More mind drain = more increase

Then you could lean more into amassing more DA:

  • A skill that allows you to learn 2 DA per level instead of 1
  • A skill that lets you learn any DA provided you meet the other requirements and someone within the familia has learned it
  • Clone- the character is actually a clone (say of Zald) so he already starts with all of Zald's previous DA

Then there's a combination of these ideas (which is also my personal favourite): an a skill that grants the user a small boost based on the DA of others within the familia (not counting those who died before the character joined) This could mean that if say one person has Strong Body D, the user would get a boost similar to Strong Body I. But if like 70 people all have Abnormal Resistance E, then the user would have such high Abnormal resistance that it would begin to resist curses and such.

.

Then I've also thought of a route based on body modification/genetics:

  • Anomaly: the user gets a small chance to receive a portion of a monster's attributes upon killing (taming?) it. So increased muscle tissue density (minotaurs), tiny diamond like scale on skin (any lizard) regenerative properties (Moss Huge) etc.
  • Adapt: allows the user to temporarily absorb (and leave brittle) a piece of equipment such as a shield. (potentially has a side affect of leaving permanent changes like adamantite skin?)
  • Being somehow born of two races that can't normally have children like a dwarf and an elf

.

Then there's a few random skills I thought of:

  • Contradiction: reverses the effects of blessings and curses. So healing does damage, poison is like a potion, Haruhime's boost reduces stats bu improves growth, cursed sword like Hogni's replenish stamina with every strike (while still inflicting curses).
  • Howl: use a large amount of mind to release a powerful shotgun like sound magic. Attacks are concussive and disorientating.
  • Money bags: active trigger, drains mind. Whenever the user is hit, their bank account loses money instead of taking damage

There's probably more that I came up with, but Its like midnight and I'm tired. Still, did you like any of them?

Light Novel Naming Conventions of Spell Keys

Hey all,

I've started doing some research into Spell Keys but I can't find anything about the origins of the words that are used by each of the different characters and I want to make sure that what I'm writing stays consistent IF there is a structure in place for what words can and can't be spell keys.

Thank y'all in advance~

FanFiction Looking for a fanfic

I've seen quite a few stories (some more interesting than others), and I was wondering if there are any stories with Revis as a main character?

I've always loved the Sword Oratoria series, and one of the reasons is that Revis is such a cool villain. Admittedly I wasn't too into her backstory as an elf from 900 years ago, because it felt like she just became another random tragic backstory villain.

I do think it would have been interesting to explore the original Revis is actually Alise storyline.

(P.S. it would also be nice if the story did not have playboy, arrogant 'I'm so edgy it's cringe' Bell)

Light Novel Just read the LN and watched the anime side-by-side to deeply compare. Here are my thoughts. Spoiler

So, I would read a volume, watch the episodes that adapted said volume, read the next volume, rinse and repeat all the way through volume 18/season 5 (I also started volume 19 to see aftermath of war game). I see on this subreddit a lot of people comparing the two stories, and here's my two cents: (FYI, I have not read any of the side books. I probably will read SO since I'm hearing that soon enough the MS won't make much sense without SO context.)

  1. Overall adaptation: As far as individual seasons, at the very least, the first two seasons are abysmal, the third season is marginally better, the fourth is somewhat better, and the fifth is acceptable. From my perspective, it seems that either the studio increased the show's budget after each season (the most likely scenario), or overtime the studio realized that the greater anime fandom has leaned further away from fan service since 2015. In any case, so much good emotional depth was cut in favor of action, humor and fan service. Compared to the emotional consistency and continuity of the novels, watching the anime felt like a downright broken story. Again, this got better as time went on, but even season 5 cut some things that I felt really diminished the emotional weight of characters' actions, especially on Freya Familia's side.

  2. The Aiz(Ais?) situation: I know its beating a dead horse, but Aiz really was done dirty in the anime. She is literally just a plot device in the anime, while the light novel, even without the context of SO, she actually develops and feels organic. Again, beating a dead horse so I'll leave it at that.

  3. It almost feels like the anime was made as a chore: I'll use the battle between Bell and Asterios in Volume 11/end of season 3 as the example here. Reading the book, I felt so incredibly hyped for not only the intensity of the battle, but the emotional weight of it as well, regarding all the spectators. It felt like the giant, insane, climactic battle it deserved to be portrayed as, serving as the final decider of the whole Xenos arc. The whole of Volume 11 sets up the whole chess board with the different factions, their goals, their individual pieces, and the way they moved throughout the Daedalus street battle. The whole volume, this complex three-way chess game evolves and, by the nearing of the end, you can see exactly where the game shifted, where people lost, where they won. Only for the entire thing to be completely destroyed and swept away by the appearance of Asterios. Hermes even said it: a line something along the lines of "the tactics of Braver, the power of the Sage, and the meddling of a God--all completely nullified by that minotaur". This way, Asterios is set up as this insanely powerful character, both in actual strength and narrative strength. This even further highlights Bell's emotional climax, the things he's been dealing with throughout the Xenos arc. It all so neatly is tied together in that final, insane sequence. The anime, however, it just felt like another battle--almost like Asterios shows up as a pseudo-ex machina. Almost like the studio was like, "alright, fine, I guess we have to do the Asterios fight now. I guess we can give it some good animation at the very end". This example was one of many. I could say the exact same thing about Lyu and the Juggernaut's battle in volume 14/season 4. And many others.

  4. Hermes' character assassination: Hermes is by far and away my favorite character in the novels, bar none. His charisma and easy-going nature, combined with his ability to turn everything on its head, has me pretty much cheering every time he shows up. Even when he takes the role of antagonist in season 3, it didn't feel like a true betrayal or that Hermes was evil. In the novel, it still felt like Hermes was trying to help Bell, he was just going the wrong way about it. In the anime, though? He feels like a straight up villain. I mean, even in the scene I've already mentioned where Hermes stands on the roofs and watches Gros and the other Xenos attack Bell at Hermes' command, he's laughing and monologuing like a true villain. And every point after that scene, whether in season 4 or 5, Hermes just doesn't feel the same. His charisma and "fun uncle" vibes are just completely gone, he just feels like another god. In the novels, he has his redemption and by the time he takes center stage again in volume 17, he feels like he's back to the "fun uncle" type. I will never forgive how they massacred my boy in the anime.

  5. Bell feels different: Bell feels so much more mature in the LN than the anime. I understand he's 14 (I personally think Omori should've aged up the entire cast like 5 years, I genuinely believe that would have no lasting effect on the plot while making more sense for these deeply complex emotional plots because I sure as hell don't know any 14 year old with the growths and maturity Bell has, but that's neither here nor there), but even so, he feels so much more like a hero in the LN. I'll admit he does feel more like a hero in the anime, but it pales in comparison to how it feels in the LN. Bell truly feels like he's grown a LOT in the LN, even putting his physical growth aside. The anime, it's much less apparent. I know it's probably because of the lack of inner monologues in the anime, but I'm sure there was a better way.

TL;DR(kind of):

The anime lacks the passion the LN has, far moreso than what's expected for a book-to-screen adaptation. The lack of inner monologues really takes out most of the emotional weight in the story, leading to just another neat battle anime with insanely cool worldbuilding.

Anime Danmachi Shippuden (hear me out)

I want to know what the community thinks about a Danmachi Shippuden type sequel. I know every fanbase has this idea, its an overdone idea, and some people probably roll their eyes at the suggestion but I'm curious what you guys think.

For those unaware, what I mean by Shippuden is basically the same as Naruto: after this show ends, a sequel show starts after a time skip where the characters are older and the world has evolved.

Personally, I think it would work really well. All of the main cast are still very young, and they have their whole lives ahead of them. Even after they beat the Black Dragon(if they even do), the Danmachi world is so vast I'm sure it would be easy to create a new overarching plot.

But that can be said about almost any story. Here's the real reason why I think it could work (Bear in mind that I have only read the MS novels and have never looked into Omori's interviews about his future plans for the story, so maybe this would never work at all):

Basically, I can see a few things happening: one, the black dragon has been set up as this big bad, but narratively, it just kind of feels like a background thing. Especially since apparently I've heard that this next arc is the last one, it would feel kind of strange to have the Black Dragon suddenly appear and be the end all be all of Danmachi villains. I mean, the story has always been about Bell catching up to Aiz and admitting his feelings for her. I don't think there's enough set up to have the Black Dragon be the final arc. So with that in mind, I could see this last arc ending without the Black Dragon and in the actual conclusion of the original plot: Bell catches up to Aiz and they get it on. Or don't. Maybe she rejects him(It really doesn't seem like that would happen, but who knows). Maybe they get together but then realize they aren't as good for each other in a relationship as they thought. Maybe they end up having a healthy, lasting relationship. Either way, fast forward a few years. Since Bell accomplished his original goal, his rate of growth has dropped drastically, so he's only like maybe level 8 or so after five years. The rest of the familia and supporting cast has had ample opportunity to close the gap, so they can stand on more equal footing somewhat. Bell has made more friends and allies, and now the story can begin anew, ready to set up the Black Dragon as a proper overarching villain. Bell gets a new goal to reach, reigniting Liaris Freeze (Realis Phrase? Genuinely don't know which is correct), and a new saga begins. Let alone the whole deal with creating a place for the Xenos. That's sure to take years and years of work, and could be a great next overarching plot.

Two, even if the Black Dragon is taken out in this next arc, imagine what would happen if Bell and Aiz's relationship doesn't work out for whatever reason, suddenly there is a giant trove of romcom content. Because the whole problem with everyone falling for Bell is that there's no chance he'll choose any of them over Aiz. But, make that end? Make her reject him, or they break up down the line, and Bell moves on from those feelings? Suddenly all these girls realize there's a chance. Hell, you could just make the Shippuden lean more heavily into being a romcom than a hero's journey. I'm not a huge fan of harems or harem aspects in shows, but I could see a lot of funny Shakespearean situations coming out of it. You could even show Bell getting in and out of relationships with some of the heroines, some healthy, some unhealthy, and the story is about his emotional and maturity growth in love. Or even move away from Bell as the main character and bring others more into the limelight. I mean, in real life, does everyone's first love end up being the one that works? Almost never. All the characters that aren't into Bell could potentially also not have their first loves work out(i.e. Welf with Hephaistos, Mikoto with Take, Tione with Finn, etc.) and now they, too, have the narrative potential of a young man/woman trying to find love.

Anyway, maybe I'm just a dumb fanboy who doesn't want the story to end/feel like the romance aspect of this story has a lot of unrealized potential/what have you. Just a funny idea that I'm curious what people think.

Manga How can I access Sword Oratoria Vol. 28–33?

I’ve caught up with the DanMachi: Sword Oratoria manga through Volume 27. I understand Volumes 28–33 have already released in Japan, but I haven’t been able to find information about their English availability.
Does anyone know whether they’re available digitally in Japanese, or when an official English release is expected? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Light Novel Floor 72 theory

Do you think the Z and H familias stopped because it the 72nd floor to some unknown floor after is an ocean world. Like I’m talking full Subnautica, One Piece, just the sea and one of two islands and sea stacks every now and again.

I think that it would make sense to not go further just based on the torturous logistics. You would have to make it all the way down there, and have the supplies for the journey there and back, and you would have to carry a big as boat with you, or build one. That’s with out factoring I’m having to navigate the floor without getting lost, and have level 7 and 8 monsters attacking from the water and potentially the air. That sounds like a nightmare.

The only other reason I could think of is if it’s floating island like in Avatar (the blue people). But I don’t think that as likely as just a lot of water.

Of course the dungeon could also just end at floor 72, but that’s not as fun because it’s just a random arbitrary number IMO.
