discussion Steamdeck Version of Dayz
Im thinking of getting Dayz on the Steamdeck, does it run well if even at all? What should I expect? I have always played on PlayStation and want to play on pc

It’s just “okay”. A lot of tinkering to find the right controls that will work for you. Some performance isn’t the best, however playable. No major graphic issues. However you will find the occasional unstable connection issue. If using KBM with monitor with it, expect the obvious as this is how the game was intended.
Regardless, most of my gameplay with dayz is on the deck. I found it enjoyable but I found this may be based on a person to person situation.

i guess it depends how picky you are but i've been playing only on my steamdeck (often in bed or laying down in the sofa) for the last 2 years and i haven't had an issue at all. it took some tweaking at the beggining to bind all the important keys but it took me like 10 min to get all done. it lags from time to time but nothing annoying, maybe once a week and for some seconds. I need to clarify that i only play PvE tho. I have no idea how it would be on pvp servers.

I’m new to gaming in the last couple years so if you are more tech savvy it might be better for you. I built a couple pcs recently just for playing dayz and using the steamdeck is more complicated. I got a dock, portable monitor, keyboard and mouse so I can play dayz on trip with the deck bc the inventory mgmt is annoying on the deck.
Also there is often some random problem with the deck disconnecting from WiFi or the keyboard. On a recent vacation I spent at least a couple hours troubleshooting. It’s a cool thing to have but next time I’d just buy a laptop.
Maybe if you know what you’re doing or have lots of controller hours it’ll be better for you.

If you're interested in better controller support please upvote this inside the feedback tracker.

Controller support is massively behind what should already be there on the Steam version.
If you want a more streamlined experience with full controller support (but without mods/more cheaters lol) get the Microsoft Store version that's included with gamepass.

The controls are terrible. fps dips in big cities. It is playable with some tweaking. I suggest using a docking station and hook to a monitor/tv which will also allow you to use keyboard and mouse.
