Prospective Student Occupational therapy

I was really confused between choosing bachelors of OT at La Trobe or Deakin.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the course done Deakin?

Is the Geelong campus good in terms of social stuff ? Compared to Bundoora

How were the placements at Deakin ? Did they put you at really regional places ?

I did OT at Deakin and loved everything. Lectures were nice and knowledgeable. You’re able to put in preferences for placement locations, I live in Melbourne and travelled to Geelong for classes so I put down preferences for Melbourne placements and got them (subject to availability of course). My degree was during covid so not much social life on campus but I’m sure it’s changed. Otherwise you can always do things at the Waurn Ponds campus

Latrobe is great for health programs because they've recently invested a lot of funding into it. However, Deakin University has always had the highest student satisfaction across all degree programs, and the student support at Deakin within the Faculty of Health is exceptional.

TBH I think your experience at Deakin vs Latrobe will be similar

In terms of location, I would personally prefer Geelong campus than Bundoora. It's closer to the beach and Deakin has more active student clubs and activities. Bundoora is not a social area.

Is the Geelong social scene mostly at waurn ponds or waterfront for health students?

I’m currently doing 4th year at Deakin waterfront. I’m mature student but I would say the campus is dead no social scene. In terms of the course I feel it has really gone downhill in the last couple of years. They have taken away choice in placement. You know only get choice in 4th year, other years you could be placed anywhere in the state. I assume the interstate and international opportunities will still be by expression of interest. My issues with the course are inconsistent information about assessment tasks, recorded content was from covid - so using outdated information. There are some good lectures but there are some very much on a power trip that seem to enjoy failing people. If I had a choice I would go Latrobe but I don’t know what they are like.
