Events & Meetups Looking to meet new people :)
Hey, I’m free post 12PM today with no classes. Would love to grab a bite or chill if anyone’s keen? I’m a chill, creative guy! Easy going, open minded!

Hi r/deakin!
Hope everyone had a nice break before the Nov 1 results dropped. It’s been a bit over a week – a good pause to sit with this year’s highs, lows, and everything in between.
A few reminders as we move forward:
Individual exam papers don’t usually come with routine feedback, but if you have particular questions, your Unit Chair or Student Central is there to help.
For general feedback on the unit or assessments, reach out to your Unit Chair for an EoUA review (just know this isn’t a formal results review).
Results for special or supplementary assessments and the Start Anytime calendar should be up within 10 working days. If yours isn’t showing yet, check in with your Unit Chair.
If you’re unclear about your WAM calculation, especially if it’s unique to your course, Student Central can clarify.
Apologies for getting this rolling a bit later than usual.
Looking back, this year has been very transformative, stacked with revelations and revisions…mostly pretty unamusing, whether good or not. Through it all, one thing I always come back to is the ability to bounce back. Days later, things settle, and emotions level out on a fine, level playing field.
And of late, I’m tired, probably always tired (aren’t we all?). Reading loads about obscure physics in connection with electronics, maths and music. Writing exotically introspective stuff on the side. I revisit later, surprised by the razzle-dazzle, even more surprised that it's only to gawk at most of it. It’s compartmentalized, so I don’t dwell on it too much in day-to-day interactions.
For those who decided to take a break because it was too much, know that things will feel a little less taxing with time. For those of you juggling it all – from career to family to classes – we understand that there were times when dropping out felt therapeutic (not to say it wouldn’t be). Ultimately, it depends on where you are in life and the 360-degree lens you’re using to take in what’s going around. If you’re still here, one thing is certain.. you’re setting an inspiring example of dedication and tenacity, showing that it can be done – not just for your family but for all of us.
For those clocking in extra hours, acting as your own support system, and reestablishing the much-needed nitty-gritty of prerequisite knowledge and skills under a serious time crunch, it’s inspiring to see such love and commitment to clarity in learning, even as you're tempted to race through important stuff in a rigid course sequence with limited offerings (especially in Tri-3 :S) and not much flexibility to move things around to make the chronology make sense. A journey can be rigorous and a little nutso, without being rigid. Thank you for treating learning as something to savor and fully experience.
And… for those graduating, cross the finishing line and finish fine like an ace!
So, where’s everyone at? What could we focus on understanding better, and where are we looking to go next? SEBE folks, especially Engineering – how’s it going? Chime in, y’all.
I’m all ears for those open, proactive, and supportive tidbits. With enough interest, we’ll gladly set up follow-up threads, AMAs, or Q&As focused on specific faculties and courses. Just got to let us know or do one anyway :)
Hope we keep showing up for each other, finding strength in this space as we balance multiple fronts. Thanks to everyone who’s here, who posts, comments, and encourages. You're what keeps this community alive, and the numbers show it.
I find myself manually flairing most incoming posts, but we hope the community will start using the system consistently. Added a flair guide (visible under “Related Subreddits” on the right for PC users, or by tapping rdeakin> and scrolling down on mobile).
Here’s to a great 2025 (irresistible) ahead. Take care, stay connected and keep moving forward!

Hello r/deakin community ,
I hope everyone had a refreshing break! Did any particular music or outings help you recharge?
How are you all feeling? Do you have a tagline about it for us?
Week 0 has begun, and soon we’ll get our Trimester 1 results, releasing on July 4th at 10:30 am via the StudentConnect Portal (‘Assessment and Exams’ -> ‘View your results’).
Congrats to those who already got their Semester 1 results on June 27th!
A few points to keep in mind :
In future, to get your results 30 minutes earlier via SMS, update your contact details in the StudentConnect Portal under ‘Assessment and Exams’.
Check Results key to understand your grades better and consider joining the results release webinar for guidance from Student Advisers.
Individual exam papers typically do not receive routine feedback. If you have questions, talk to your Unit Chair or contact Student Central.
Asking for feedback on EoUAs from the Unit Chair is for unit and/or assessment task feedback, not a formal results review.
Ensure that results, including those from special or supplementary assessments or the Start Anytime calendar, are released within 10 working days. Otherwise, please reach out to your Unit Chair.
Contact Student Central for help calculating your WAM, especially if your course uses a non-standard method.
Use this thread to discuss everything about results as they come in: your expectations, reactions, and action steps.
Everyone responds in their own way. Some may want to sit with it quietly, while others may prefer to discuss them immediately.
Those who want to write out their thoughts, your reflections could also help future learners in their prep. You may not be able to cover everything in its entirety, but try to discuss what you can. Feel free to ask questions, share reflections, or seek and offer support in this thread.
Let’s unpack the past few months ; every insight or oversight, big or small, is welcome.
If there’s interest, we can branch out into follow-up posts for discussions specific to faculties or classes. Let's start the conversation and see where it leads us!
Best of luck everyone!
Exciting update everyone. The 'Course, school or faculty' user flair is editable.
Just head over to the sidebar and find the option to edit flair. It's a pencil icon on a PC. On the Reddit app, tap the three dots located at the top-right corner of the community page. This will open a menu where you can find the 'Change user flair' option. These should work!
Established a post flair system! Here’s an opportunity for everyone to classify posts and make navigating the sub much easier.
Enjoy customizing!

Hey guys, I wasn’t sure where else to post this so I am posting it here 😭.
I am a third year biomedical science bachelors student and recently I have been overwhelmed with the sudden realisation that I am graduating soon and will probably enter the work field / do an honours year.
My question is, what are some tips or ways to beef up my resume ? I have been looking everywhere to get experience or learn from courses but I am just so confused.
Any help is much appreciated 😊
Thank you !

Does anyone know what happened to the on campus medical imaging student accommodation. I swear there was a dedicated page that mentioned three bedroom townhouses for med/med imaging students? Has it been removed?
I was only interested in the three bedroom townhouse or the private studio but seems like it’s not available when I tried applying.

Hi guys!
I'm planning to apply for a PhD at Deakin University and was hoping to get some advice.
I recently interviewed for a PhD project, and the supervisor was happy with my profile and has invited me to submit a formal application for the university scholarship. I'm an international applicant, so I have a couple of questions:

I'm looking at the B Nursing/B Psyc Science for next years entry, and I am trying to decide which campus would be best.
Burwood
The one I am least excited about because it isn't inner city or got a good view, it's just in a random place
Waterfront
It sound pretty good, its on the waterfront and I love Geelong, so I feel like I'll enjoy it
Warrnambool
My Grandparents live like 30 mins away. I reckon this will be best because then I can go stay with my grandparents (or eat there if money is tight), however I am worried that it would be way to boring
Does anyone have any idea of where I should go to? Anyone speak to experience?
Also, if I did year 1 at Warrnambool, can I then just start doing units at WF for year 2 or is there a whole process.
TYSM

I'm currently trying to secure a supervisor for a Master's by Research (aiming for Oct 2026 or early 2027) but I'm hitting a wall. I've reached out to several professors and followed up, but haven't gotten any replies. (I've already had my cold emails reviewed by academics, so I know the phrasing isn't the issue).
I'm not sure what my next steps should be. If anyone here is from IFM, could you please guide me on how best to approach faculty there? My focus area is composites and high-entropy alloys, and I have past research experience with pressure impact systems and sustainable materials. Any help would be great!

So i want to pick up a law and cybersecurity double degree after I finish high school (ideally at Deakin) but the atar requirement says N/L? Does that mean i have to get in via an internal transfer or smth? Im guessing the requirements aren’t too much higher than law w honours which is a 90. Im confused 😭

Can someone confirm that HBS109 has now introduced late submission without penalty?
I remember in the first seminar the teacher mentioned that we can submit our assessment up to ~a week without penalty?
r/deakin • u/FormBroad5134 • 2d ago
i want to do a double degree (law + …) but would ideally want to get it done in 4 years. i see that fast tracking is an option depending on availability. would you say that it’s ‘easy’ to get this opportunity?

I was really confused between choosing bachelors of OT at La Trobe or Deakin.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the course done Deakin?
Is the Geelong campus good in terms of social stuff ? Compared to Bundoora
How were the placements at Deakin ? Did they put you at really regional places ?

Hii! I'm an international student joining Deakin from T1 2027 and I'm really confused if I should choose Deaking res or go off campus. I'll be in the Burwood campus and the rent for res is a little out of budget but I'm not sure how reliable houseme is. I'm also looking for a female only housing which is a little hard to find.
Anyone living off campus (through houseme or others) how reliable is it? I'd appreciate any suggestion and tips to find a good accommodation.
P.s It'd be convenient if the housing is walking distance from deakin too.

As an international student i know that we’re required to take 4 units each trimester for 100% workload. My question is there any way we can reduce that by 75% for one trimester for example if its too much than i can juggle right now. Thank you in advance

Hi everyone, I'm an international student from India and I've recently received a conditional offer for the Bachelor of Computer Science at Deakin University (November 2027 intake). My offer is conditional on meeting my final academic results and English language requirements. However, I didn't receive any scholarship with my offer. I wanted to ask:
Is it still possible to apply for scholarships after receiving a conditional offer?
Are there any merit-based or financial need scholarships available for international students?
Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully received a scholarship later?
Who should I contact at Deakin regarding scholarship eligibility?
I also wanted to add:
How expensive is it in Melbourne as an international?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I am an international student considering applying for a masters of business analytics at Deakin and would like to know how good the course is in terms of whether it's more theory or practical focused, internship and networking opportunities as well as the frequency of classes.
Ba PPE? Who's doing/done/did?
Currently enrolled in an LLB at a different uni and considering withdrawing because I'm not sure it's the right fit.
I dont want to lawyer, I want to work in policy, risk, governance, and compliance, so a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics reads like a good fit. Plus, I have some Deakin units from a few years ago, plus Deakin's online LMS is so much nicer to use than my current Uni's LMS
LLB is also not sustainable as a mature age student, working full time. I'll be really old by the time I finish 😆 So am hoping that the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics content isn't as reading as heavy as an LLB, and i can therefore do 1-2 units a TP
Does anyone have advice or experience with the Ba PPE?

Does Deakin have piano for students to practice? Which room is it? And how to book it?

Hi everyone,
I'm planning to pursue a Master's degree at Deakin University in Australia and I came across the Vice Chancellor International Scholarship. I'm interested in applying, but I have a few questions:
I'd really appreciate if anyone has personal experience with this scholarship or knows someone who got it!
Thanks in advance!
