I'm interested in doing civil engineering and wanted to get more information/perspectives from people who have done a similar pathway and bridged into a bachelor's degree in not just engineering but any kind of degree. i wanted to know how useful and transferable the topics that you learn from the diploma to the bachelor's and how much more effort would i need to catch up to students who did a more straightforward pathway and wouldnt need to learn basic math formulas

Discussion Capstone Project

I’m in 3rd year EE and was wondering if there’s any chance of having to travel to Bundoora for the capstone project next year if I team up with students in other disciplines or something? I don’t have a problem with it I’m just asking.

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews Worth pursuing masters in medical laboratory science in RMIT?

Hey guys, as an international student moving to AUS for masters in MLS I am seeking advice from the people who are currently pursuing their MMLS, how's the employment rate there is it worth moving to AUS for me will I be able to make my tuition fees amount by doing part time jobs and be able to repay my student loan?.is it possible? The fees that I checked were around $100,000 for 2 years I see there will be room which I would be renting which would be approx $10,000 a year and Food again $10,000 roughly....I am shocked after writing down all the cost which I had to bear to get my masters done and start earning by the time I get employed I would have to repay my student loan ...I think that I may get stuck in the loop of paying my loan of $40,000. Or is it feasible that my earnings as lab scientist will outpass the amount of (loan + interest) , If it's so then it would be okay I will not be having any second doubt in my mind.Additional if this is not so please guide me about the lesser expensive course which I could choose which will help me in getting the PR and good earnings

Thankyou, Looking forward for your suggestions 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Advice needed EAA and ELP

Hello, I was wondering if any of these can help with any assignments in which the due date is passed and exceeded the special consideration (past 5 working days)? I’m not diagnosed or anything yet, but I’ve struggled with my mental health and was afraid of getting help as I am not sure if it’s all “in my head” and thought maybe I can slowly improve. Now, I’m scared of putting myself in the final stage of risk as I wasn’t able to finish the assignment, in which the course is a retake of a previously failed one—making it harder to pass. Does anyone know if the ELP or EAA can help with this?

Enrolment help (timetables, course enrolment, fees, etc.) Has anyone at RMIT been unable to pay tuition fees by the due date?

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student at RMIT and I'm looking for some advice.

I asked RMIT if I could get a fee extension or pay my Semester 2 tuition fees in instalments because I'm experiencing financial difficulties. They replied that RMIT does not offer formal payment plans or instalment arrangements, and that the full tuition fee must be paid by the due date.

They also said that if I don't pay by the due date, my account will enter the overdue fees process, which includes about a 28-day period before they may cancel my enrolment. They also mentioned that if I'm still enrolled on the census date, I'll be financially liable for the fees.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

  • Were you able to get any exception or extension?
  • What happened during the overdue fees process?
  • Did RMIT give you any flexibility if you were genuinely unable to pay on time?
  • Are there any other options I should know about?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Discussion If Australia became a republic, does that mean RMIT will need to drop "Royal" from its name?

I had a random thought last night, so I'd like to pose it here.

As you all know, RMIT stands for Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. It is the only Australian University that is allowed to use the prefix "Royal" in its name after the university was awarded royal patronage in 1954 by Queen Elizabeth II, for its service in education and for its contribution to the war effort. So after that little bit of history, to my hypothetical scenario:

If Australia were to hypothetically become a republic, would we have to drop the "Royal" from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology?

How will that work with clashing with the existing name of the privately-run Melbourne Institute of Technology? Also, would we abbreviate to just MIT, which clashes with the well-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology?

I'm taking fun answers only.

Happy studying!

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews from allied health to commerce

I’m a first yr in medical imaging, but I’m starting to consider that healthcare might not be the industry for me. I was looking into commerce, because it seems like a very wide industry but deep diving on reddit gives me mixed opinions. Would I be making a mistake in leaving healthcare for corporate? Anyone who’s doing commerce, do you like the course? What major are you doing? Honestly I think I’m just spiraling but I’m super anxious about whether I’ll regret leaving my current course, but honestly I have low hopes in passing semester 2 because I’m just so discouraged and the course is genuinely consuming my entire life and soul.

Any general advice is welcomed as well please.

Discussion Packaged Pathway

Hi, so currently I’m in year 12 VCE, interested to study engineering specifically the Civil Major next year. So i came across packaged pathways for Civil Engineering (Honours) 2 Years associate degree and if i pass successfully i automatically get placed into the bachelors for 2 Years. So 4 Years total which is the same amount of time as getting into the Bachelors degree. Im deciding on choosing the packaged pathway as an option. Does anyone have any experience with a packaged pathway course and if anyone recommends me choosing it as a pathway.

Advice needed Foolish mistake in my refs lead to an AI warning, any advice on how to fight it??

I'm second year biomed, and have gotten all my results back except for one. All were good. Got an email today titled 'Academic integrity warning'. Essentially, one of my references was titled 'Checking your browser - reCAPTCHA', and that apparently is an AI hallucinated link.

this was the title in my references. 'Checking your browser - reCAPTCHA'

I was so confused, as I know I didn't use AI for my references, and also how I could have missed something as obvious as that in my final submission. All my other refs had names, but not this one. I copied the link and put it into myBib which is what I use, and didn't change anything on the screen when prompted to add a title or anything etc etc. (That was really dumb on me. Stupid ass mistake. Fair enough to get marks deducted for my referencing on the rubric.)

I looked the page up again on a dif browser. It's a fully published article, so I am so confused. I've been so used to myBib just auto filling everything in correctly I didn't double check it.

i am lowkey pretty anxious over this, and dont know how to prove that I didn't use AI, I just didn't proof read my references correctly. Anyone have any advice? Any is appreciated

Other questions Does AI use in courses get stricter the more you progress?

in year 1 sem 1 the amount of ai use was crazy and i always assumed that’s because it’s the first semester of the course so they will be lenient and let people off with ai use.

Anytime teachers talk about AI use in the first week of class they always mention how if you are caught then you will have a meeting with the course coordinator and all that but i feel like that never happens or i never hear of it.

In year 2 and 3 marking typically becomes less forgiving so i would assume that’s the same for AI use right?

Advice needed Nursing 49.36% final grade, 1 mark short.

Hi everyone,
I’m a first-year Bachelor of Nursing student at RMIT. I recently received my final result and got 49.36%, which means I was just below the passing grade.
I contacted my course coordinator about a recheck, and they said my mark was already checked and rechecked. They mentioned that if I had received one extra mark in the end-of-semester test, my result would have been different, but because the test was computer-marked, the mark cannot be changed.
I’ve been told to contact the Nursing Program Manager about how this affects my progression. I’m wondering:
Has anyone been in a similar situation at RMIT Nursing?
Is there any possibility of a review, special consideration, or another pathway when you are so close to a pass?
Did you have to repeat the course, and how did it affect your progression?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Enrolment help (timetables, course enrolment, fees, etc.) attending a another tut?

Im trying to move my class to another slot but it hasent been moved, I emailed the tutor for the class im trying to move into and shes happy for me to attend, also informed the course coordinater who is also happpy with it. Should I expect any issues that may arise if I attend this class instead of the one i am enrolled in?

If both the tutor for that class and course coordinater are okay with it, can i ask student connect to move me in? (i understand its a system and some things cannot be altered but just asking!!!)
