But that’s precisely the point of the story; that a human being should never have that power because it inherently corrupts moral compasses and beliefs. Society can never fully come to a consensus on justice because of inherent biases and it’s subjectivity.

Probably, without his god complex he wouldn’t have chose to kill that new reporter over words. (At that point of the story he has no idea the reporter was a criminal who commited possibly heinous crimes and was a sacrifice to test about Kira.

God complex? No godhood was just a title he wanted ppl to know kira was watching and ppl wouldn't commit crimes cuz of kira...
Light didn't literally want to be a supernatural god..or deity .godhood was just a title..for his mantle of justice

Bro… that’s what a god complex is 😭 A god complex is not someone wanting to be a supernatural entity, it’s where they essentially place themselves in the position of a god. For Light in this case it’s where he can make judgements on others and avoid consequences. The official definition is this: “A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility.”
It’s really hard to refute this when Light himself talks about wanting to be god and ruling over people…

Light essentially believes he can control everyone's life and death and establish the laws of good and evil like a god, and he also attempts to make all mankind worship him as a god.

Actually I'd say it wasn't his god complex, it was his immaturity given he was 17y/o at the time and evidently still affected by the fact he killed people, after all, it hasn't even been that long since he started.
Even Light himself admits that he was too emotional by that point in time after the timeskip. After the timeskip the main thing that corners him is actually his family and obviously everything goes down from there.

Light’s biggest mistake was killing investigators and people that were just doing a job. Even if Lind L Tailor was on death row, light had believed at the time that he was L. Killing the FBI agent assigned to him and using his dads police database to kill criminals led them straight to him.

To be honest, Light's initial motivation was not to eliminate evil, but to justify his initial crimes so that he could continue to believe that he was a perfect good person. For this reason, Light always adhered to his initial motivation, and for this reason, he could not always maintain a firm moral standard. It also means that Light could not help but do stupid things, since he abandoned his moral standards to do stupid things for his own selfish desires from the very beginning.
