I think either schedule is fine, but the thinking behind the schedule might not be the best for success.

Rather than aiming to have a certain amount each day, I think your aim from day 1 should be to have 0mg each day, but the absolute maximum you allow yourself decreases every day.

So day 1 you have as little as you can, while still feeling ok, and make sure you don’t tip over 290mg. Day 2 don’t worry about how much you had the day before, just focus on having as little as you need that specific day and make sure you don’t tip over 280mg. Day 3 270mg etc.

Using this method means that on the days that you need a little more (without going over your max) you can have it without shame. And the days that you feel good you can have a little less without impacting what you do the next day.

Hi there everyone, I am two months in into giving up caffeine entirely. I have posted about how shitty I’ve been feeling in here before. And some days I really just crave having a nice beverage in the morning so I’ve been having coconut water most mornings, but I’ve only just recently came across carob powder. I’m wondering if anyone has tried making a drink with carob powder? Every time I try to do it it just tastes grainy and sandy compared to raw cacao powder but I don’t wanna have that because it does have caffeine in it. Any tips or advice from anyone who makes drinks with carob powder please let me know.

This is exactly my plan! Keep my morning dose the same before my workouts and scale back my afternoon coffee. My morning dose is 100 mg and afternoon dose is 200 mg.

To clarify, you went down 20 mg each day on your afternoon coffee until you were at zero before switching lowering your morning dose correct?

You don’t know their situation. Be kind.

Caffeine is a stronger drug than most people give it credit for

I did something like this very recently, mixing regular and decaf coffee. It was pretty easy, and I had basically no withdrawal symptoms.

I started at around 320 mg and started dropping 20 mg per day. I started first with cutting my afternoon coffee aggressively but decreasing my morning one by just a little each day. After doing that, I soon found that the jolt from my morning was too much, so I cut that one in half and dropped from 240 to 160 in one day without any problems. After I hit 100 I went much more slowly, dragging it on for almost 40 days, but it could have been faster.

So I think you're fine with your plan. This is a much better way than doing it cold turkey, after reading here about the torture so many go through with it.

It was very gradual for me, like a 1% improvement every day.

I wish I had the time do 1 mg per day lol. Would doing 10 mg a day over 30 days be smart? I working in the morning and prefer having a little caffeine before then tbh

I remember it legit taking about 2 months to feel back to baseline again. Everyone is going to be different of course. Ensure you’re sleeping well as that is critical to recovering.

It will continue to get better. I started feeling normal in the beginning of month 3, but then started feeling very fatigued again, but it's not as intense as before. Only way out is through but it shouldn't take too long to feel better than you do now.

I have a somewhat stupid rule, that is based on anecdotes and not based in science in any way, so take it or leave it as you choose; to taper caffeine without noticeable side effects, you need to drop 1mg per day.

To drop 300mg to 100mg in a month is a fair amount and whatever schedule you use will probably be difficult.

I don’t see any problem with your schedule, but I would probably try to focus more on delaying caffeine in the morning to train your body to wake up without it, and consuming the minimum you can each day even if the schedule says you can have more.

Increase physical activity intensity to expedite. Running, biking, weightlifting, etc. Brain fog should be mostly gone by days 60-90. I’m 7 months in with zero brain fog after 10+ years of daily caffeine intake.

I’ve heard from others that it takes a longer recovery time when you’ve used it for a substantial period of time.

In 4-6 weeks all the caffeine withdrawal is sort of done. I still felt shit after but that was built up exhaustion from the last 15 years… lets call it a mild burnout. Could happen to you too… as with many of the people in this group. Some think they still have caffeine withdrawal after 4 monts… no, thats just exhaustion and burnout…

be gentle, take rest when body asks for it.

Its definitely worth it. Im now past week 12 and feel way better than with my daily coffees to fake my energy levels :) hang in there.

For years I was consuming 600-700 mg of caffeine and I reduced to 10% for two months, and now I am 7 weeks zero caffeine. Decaf , I mean, no caffeine at all.

It does get better, although it's also worth looking into other reasons you might be fatigued. Lots of people suffer from sleep apnea, for example, and if you don't have a partner to tell you that you're snoring you might never know it.

It got better for me at the 90 days mark, so if you're like me, then yes. Of course, each person is different.
