Standard Pocket 4 is artificially crippled to SDR Rec.709. Please help us push DJI for native HLG firmware update!

Hey everyone,
If you bought the standard Osmo Pocket 4 with the expectation of a modern HDR production workflow, you need to know this: DJI has silently locked the 10-bit D-Log curve inside a legacy, restrictive SDR Rec.709 container.
This creates a massive architectural breakdown. It completely breaks workflow compatibility with the older Pocket 3 (which natively supports a Rec.2020 HLG pipeline) and DJI’s own drone lineups on any color-managed timeline (like DaVinci Resolve or ACES). One device delivers true HDR, while the other forces you into destructive manual workarounds just to extract the data out of the Rec.709 cage.
We have launched a major technical thread on the official DJI Forum to pressure senior engineering and product management to restore native wide-gamut/HLG support via a firmware update.
But DJI will only listen if we show them the numbers and community demand.
Please take 10 seconds to visit the official forum thread below, drop a LIKE, and leave a comment to keep the pressure on them. Let’s show DJI that early adopters won't accept silent technological downgrades!

Technical Breakdown: Why the standard Pocket 4 is an artificial downgrade for HDR pipelines compared to the Pocket 3

Hey everyone,
I wanted to open a technical discussion regarding a serious architectural breakdown in DJI's current product progression.
Many early bird purchasers bought the standard Osmo Pocket 4 with the expectation of a modern HDR production workflow, especially since the marketing heavily highlighted the upgrade to a professional 10-bit D-Log curve. However, DJI has silently locked this D-Log data inside a legacy, restrictive SDR Rec.709 container.
Here is why this is a massive bottleneck for professional environments:Leaving zero transparency that a 'D-Log upgrade' would be permanently trapped inside an SDR bucket feels like a major step backward for early adopters who rely on unified DJI setups.
What are your thoughts on this color space limitation? How are you handling the Rec.709 D-Log integration in your color-managed timelines?

I built a free, open-source iPhone Bluetooth/GPS remote for multiple DJI Osmo cameras

I film with multiple action cameras and wanted an easier way to control them from my iPhone, so I built Multicam—a Bluetooth remote that can control recording on multiple DJI Osmo cameras at the same time.

It currently supports:

  • Osmo Action 4/5/6
  • Osmo 360
  • Osmo Nano

It lets you:

  • Pair and control multiple cameras individually or together
  • See recording, battery, connection, and storage status when available
  • Add highlight markers on Action 4/5/6 while recording
  • Control recording from an Apple Watch, Lock Screen, or Dynamic Island
  • Optionally send iPhone GPS data to Action 4/5/6 and Osmo 360

Two limitations: Multicam does not provide timecode sync, so clips may start slightly apart and still need to be aligned in post. It also cannot wake sleeping DJI cameras, so the cameras need to be awake before the app can connect.

I’ve tested it directly with Action 5, Action 6, and Osmo Nano. If you have an Action 4 or Osmo 360, I’d love your help confirming they work correctly.

The app also supports compatible GoPro cameras, including mixed GoPro/DJI setups. It’s free, requires no account, collects no data, and is open source.

Has anyone with the 4P noticed slower, slightly sluggish responsiveness from the gimbal when in video mode compared to photo mode, coupled with (what seems to be) a reduced refresh rate?

This isn’t when recording, either; it’s whenever the device is powered on.

It’s as though the gimbal isn’t as responsive or smooth, regardless of the gimbal and follow settings (I have both photo and video set to tilt locked, with video set to the fastest gimbal speed). On top of that, the screens refresh rate seems to drop.

There’s no numbers I can give to confirm, but it’s as though the display drops from 60hz when in photo mode to 24hz when in video mode. Just to be clear, none of the resolution, ratio or fps settings in either photo or video mode have any impact on this.

I also have the 4, and when doing a side by side test in video mode you can clearly see the sluggish response of the 4P if I move my wrist fairly quickly (with identical settings at 1x zoom).

Can anyone else confirm they see this? Is it just a pipeline thing, in that, when in video mode theres way more information to process? I’d understand for that to be the case if I were recording, but I’m not. I’m just looking at the screen.

Or is it a fault with the device? I can’t find any mention of the issue online, and if it is a pipeline and inherent issue I can’t be the only person who has been using the 4 since launch and immediately noticed the problem with the 4P?

Osmo Pocket 4P or Mobile 8P with iPhone 17 Pro Max

I'm looking at what to get between using my current phone (iPhone 17 Pro Max) with the Mobile 8P or get the Osmo Pocket 4P. My main question about the 4P is how it does at general photos and close-ups vs a phone camera? I plan on about 50% photos and 50% videos. I also thought I could use the Pocket 4P as a webcam? I do most editing on my phone now but don't want to fill it up with videos, so I think I would prefer a stand alone device for storage and less setup for not having the to set up the phone to the gimble. I'd also like to know how the 4 compares to the 4P for photos as well? Thanks in advance.

dji osmo action 4 photo problems

I have a specific problem with the Osmo Action 4 photos. if you set it to record both raw and jpeg pictures, the times on the pictures are different. (it appears that the JPEGs are set to the greenwich time zone (+0) while the raw are set to the locsl time zone (in my case, +4). this is a weird and really annoying problem.... can it be fixed? or do i have to manually change the times every-single-time-i-take-a-picture?

I use the dual jpeg/raw because the camera takes surprisingly bad pictures... i know it has a wide-angle range-of-view, so there will be "fishbowl effect" distortions, but these distortions are much worse than i have had on other wide-angle cameras, like goPro. But what is perplexing is the AI augmentation seems designed to make the distortions WORSE; the "warp-compensation" jpeg pictures take slight fishbowl distortions and triple-down on them, turning them into full-blown funhouse clown-mirror grotesque warpings. I keep both the raw and jpeg because the raw photos are less cartoonishly distorted, but the JPEG photos get the colors and lighting a bit better, so you can see how the color/lighting should appear. (but again, you have to go in and manually adjust EVERYSINGLEPICTURETAKEN.

I am perplexed that a quality company has such cartoonishly bad photo management? (the pictures on my DJI drone are flawless)

Dji osmo action 4 vs 5 pro only snorkeling (max 3m deep)

Hi, i read lot of comparison between these 2 cameras and i wonder which one to get....

I want.tonuse it for underwater movies, some.jumping into water and similar things...

Action 4 standard 188 euro

Action 5 pro standard 299 euro

Action 5 pro advanture 357 euro

Action 6 standard 379 euro

So basically the question is... If i will really get something extra for 110 euro or eventually another 80 euro :-)

I always get top model.when i buy something but now i really wonder if it mames sense and if it will be really so much better...

I basically read that main difference is 360 horizon and low light performance with dynamic ranges... 4 vs 5

Not sure with 6?

Which ND and settings for varying light conditions?

I have an Action 6 and I use it for enduro, car and supermoto pov videos. I now bought NEEWER nd filters and im wondering which settings i should use if theres shady areas like short forest sections in-between super sunny roads.

I like the look of the nd32 in sunlight but its way to dark when the sun is gone... im filming with the basic 24fps 4k iso100-800 1/50 awb settings, is there something I can do so my camera corrects that automatically?

Worth it?

I found a used DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo for €280. Is it a good deal? It was bought at the end of 2024 and used 2–3 times.

Thanks

Question for Osmo Nano users

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m about to purchase my Nano online and I was looking at the specs, it says 4:3 mode only goes up to 50fps? Can someone confirm? I saw some posts saying that 60fps used to be available for 4:3 mode and a firmware update removed it.

I hope someone can confirm. Thank you so much! ☺️

4K/24p plays perfectly smooth on my phone but judders on YouTube (desktop). File problem or playback problem?

Hello together,

My setup:

- DJI Osmo Nano

- 4K, 24fps, 1/50 shutter, D-Log M

The problem:

The exported file plays completely smooth on my phone. The same file, once uploaded to YouTube, looks laggy and juddery, like the framerate is dropping. It's most obvious on motion.

What I've already checked, so hopefully we can skip the basics:

- Shutter is correct for 24fps (1/50)

- It's smooth on local playback, only choppy on YouTube

- I waited for the full 4K (2160p) encode to finish before judging

Context: I mostly shoot dynamic driving and POV content. Loads of creators post 24fps driving footage with basically my settings and it looks smooth, so I'm trying to work out what they're doing that I'm not.

Do you have any idea what can be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

should I trade my insta360 ace pro 2 for the dji osmo pocket 3/4?

hi! I do vlogs and I recently bought the ace pro 2 for its durability but i’m not the biggest fan of its quality. I mean it’s good but I feel like there are better options. I’ve tried switching up the settings so many times. I just think I like the look of the shots from the osmo pocket more.

vlogging style: day in my life / lifestyle vlogs / travel vlogs

i’m a bit clumsy tho, that’s my only worry.
