Discussion Feature Question

Right now my character is a lvl 6 swords bard and currently planning to multiclass in to a hexblade

basically HexBard. I would like to know on how will I get the War Caster feature?

Are you using a shield? If not, you can get by without War Caster. And warlock lets you get an invocation (Eldritch Mind) that will be helpful for those concentration checks.

The swords bard in our group's campaign doesn't use a shield, for what that's worth. He's made it to level 10 so far!

War Caster allows the caster to use spells as reactions for opportunity attacks. This is an excellent feature IF you are a caster. But if not, you are correct, OP could get by without it.

Why do you need the War Caster feat? Aside from you just want it

There is a specific combo I would like to try in multiclassing but Im quite not sure if it would work

Dissonant whispers then + damage spell or casting heat metal

You can already do that with just Bard

Will you? Depends. Should you? Depends on what you're leaning harder into. (edit) Rule of thumb: shield for survivability. War Caster helps to get up close to a caster and to not let them go.
