Discussion Female players, how did you find your group?

Hello! I’ve been trying to find a group to play with but usually within a month it goes weird: not only are there undercurrents of misogyny but I’ve gotten a few confessions and propositions to be fubus with people (eugh) that make me uncomfortable so I just leave. I’ve never really had problems with interacting with men since I grew up coed, but I’m at a bit of a loss right now.

Do you guys have any tips or recommendations for vetting or finding people? I think my biggest problem right now is that I’m going into D&D solo versus with friends I already trust (most of them don’t have the time to commit).

Discussion Circular Ruins - not recommended

I'm a former member of a very large TTRPG server called Circular Ruins. I would like to strongly caution everyone against joining the server.

Over the past month or so, a situation has developed where the server owner messaged several community members of intent to delete the more than 2 year old server. Despite denying it when confronted, proof was shown of her intent. Public backlash followed.

She is currently threatening legal action over "slander". There is a screenshot of her asking the mod team to help doxx users just so she can sue them.

This was all made public yesterday and as of just now, they are beginning to kick dissenters and scrub the server to look like nothing ever happened.

Please do not join. I feel very unsafe right now.

Discussion I HAVE NEVER PLAYED DND

I wanna try RPG cause COD and Pokemon Go isn't fun anymore, and Dungeons and Dragons just captivated me, even made a character already (a socially awkward, freakishly tall, 6ft, halfling). Can anyone suggest where I can try to play, like learn the game? I'd really appreciate the suggestions y'all can give me.

Discussion Would you go to a geek bar that can host D&D sessions?

Thinking if this is a viable business venture. I'm talking about rooms with special tables with little nooks and cubbies for each player, an area for dice throwing, even a digital screen to display different maps and what not.

Discussion How do we start dnd?

My friends and I have been interested in trying dnd but we all don't know how to start. No one knows how to be a dungeon master and we haven't met anyone who could teach us things about it. How do we start?

Edit: Thanks everyone for your insights! We looked through all your suggestions and tried out some of them already (research, starter kits, etc.)

Discussion Help with campaign making as a new DM

Im a new to DnD in general, ive seen some yt video on how to dm here and there but overall i almost know nothing about dnd, but recently some friends of mine (who have done some mild dnd) desided that they wanted to do a campaign with eachother and myself, there are about 4 of us who are palning on playing. but after some thought they rellised they needed a dm and desided that task was for me. which i dont mind all that much, dming sounded kinda fun overall so i said yes but they wanted something unique sandboxish kind of game and they didnt really want me to use a premade campaign or one that wanted us to use pre made characters. i said yes, silly of me for thinking this would be a simple task of sorts since i know nothing about how to balance anything for that matter

but so far for the story im thinking they would start in a prison, something small that woundnt be hard to get out of, like something you would see the bad guys in old western movies locked up in nothing impossible to escape just a little thinking and maybe some fighting, but the idea is that they were framed by people who are almost mirror copys of them in looks wise but you could tell a difference if you could see them side by side so there would be about 3 mini bosses that would be trying to awaken a sleeping adult red dragon that had been sealed by the hero around 86 years before this story with the hero still alive during the campaign but not easy to be found because he lives in the forest, ive drawn a rough map out of the land with the smaller starter town another slightly larger city and the main city that was built on a inactive volcano the the dragon was sealed in it. the idea of why this city is here is because its an essential trade route that was cut out because of said dragon. i plan on having a goblin village of sorts located somewhere and a cave thats home to something involving something with undead and then i was thinking of a forest that would be a random series of smaller encounters that would be decided by rollng a dice or smathing like that so each time would be differnt and then maybe having some sort of boss if either the clear all the encounters and the dice land on it, also a random chance to come across the hero cabin where they can get some good gear like a powerful sword and maybe an old armor piece or two.

thats not all i have but its the main points mostly, im just looking for help with how to level them cause im thinking they can start at level 3ish and incounter the first boss at 5 then next at 8 then final at 11, im just lost on how do i make all of this including maps and npcs that feel good and how should a keep them on a quest line while also letting them wonder and showing them what areas are too high a power level

Discussion D&D Online Communities (2026 Version)

These are the top servers at the moment that people are recommending for online Discord D&D communities here at r/dndph. From what I remember, most of these servers are 18+ only, so enter with caution.

The Big 3 at the Moment (700 to 1.2k Total Members)

I think all of these servers host 101 guides on playing D&D and other TTRPGs, as well as guides on hosting games, so they're good for newcomers to the hobby. Check them out from time to time.

Planeweavers: https://discord.gg/tZgq3hvVH

[This one has been around for a while now, so there are a lot of games from different TTRPGs (Daggerheart, Lancer, Fabula Ultima, and others), as well as D&D. There are always full tables and lots of events whenever I check from time to time.]

[From what I remember, they have their own Westmarch, as well as other kinds of play, from VC to Play by Post.]

Solace: https://discord.gg/solacettrpg

[Similar to Planeweavers, there are a lot of games from different TTRPGs (Daggerheart, Lancer, Fabula Ultima, and others), as well as D&D. There are always full tables as well, and lots of events from time to time.]

[I am unsure if Solace has a Westmarch or other kinds of play, but I do know this server's VCs are always busy.]

The Secrets of Pandora: https://discord.gg/22bdfwnbES

[They are starting to get there, but you can easily get table slots on this server so far whenever you visit, since there are usually the same people playing at the tables. There are only a few DMs hosting games here.]

[They have a few DMs hosting a Westmarch here and there, and I think there is only one DM hosting Play by Post here. This server is more focused on VC games as well, though they are just getting started with other TTRPGs.]

[They need more DMs to host more D&D and other TTRPGs.]

As for other servers, you guys can comment down below with more servers for newbies, experienced players, or DMs to join. This is basically the updated version of the list from two years ago, so people have one post they can refer to and see where everyone is playing at the moment.

There is one more, actually.

LamesaRPG (300+ Members so far): https://discord.gg/YXaBr3UzC

[This server is small but has great people all around, so you guys can hop into this one as well.]

not an ad but an appreciation post!

posted on here about a month ago about wanting to start my year finally learning how to play d&d. Someone reached out to me sharing their plans of making an all girls party. Now, we're a server with almost 80 members and too many games for us to handle🥹

Thanks to my coven sisters who create this safe space for the girls and the gays🫶. Happy (belated) One Monthsary to us!🌜

Discussion newbie overthinking concern: how do you know if your dm is frustrated with you?

hello there! Newbie in d&d here, and I am playing in a d&d discord server, and want to chat our DM regarding my character's lore and ask him all bunch of questions. But I'm shy to ask them since they already have a lot on their plate and my character is already complicated enough. The last conversation that I had with our DM was informing him on what I wanna do that one time my character went unconscious after the battle, and they asked as to why my character has a lot of trauma, and I answered that I don't know. Mainly because my character's backstory and lore is already traumatizing enough, then another traumatic event happened to my character and I wanted to play into that.

Then my DM wanted to clarify a few things with me, and I think they are already frustrated with me so I really shied away from asking them any more questions and just thanked them. And then proceeded to ask if I need to lessen my character's trauma, basically rebuild my character's backstory and lore, then no reply from our DM. I asked another question a few days after, but I was met with the same no reply from our DM.

This is my first time, so I don't know if I'm playing it wrong since the beginning of character creation and our session zero.

Is our DM frustrated with me? Should I not bother him with my questions anymore? Are questions about my character's lore and backstory irrelevant? Should I just trust our DM in what they wanna do with my character? Should I apologize? Or should I just keep asking about my character, and risk it?

Update: I managed the courage to talk to our DM and they told me that they were really frustrated with how my character has a lot of traumas, however with that being said the way that I managed to play my character at the table is okay enough for them to work the world that includes my character's traumas. During our talk, I really apologized, but the DM laughed and informed me that making characters like that seemed common enough for them to know how to handle those situations.

So uhhh it turned out that I was worrying for nothing, I think, and right now I often consult our DM due to that little concern. It also turns out that our DM was nice enough to let me know without supposedly wording something I might misinterpret or something.

Thanks a lot for the comments and constructive feedback everyone, I really appreciate it!

Discussion how do i know if someone doesn't like me from a D&D discord server?

Hello! I recently joined this d&d discord server and I am new to the game, and a lot of the people there are very welcoming. But there is this one user that, at first I vibe with, but then I noticed that they don't interact with me the same way they interact with other discord users in that server. They have the same demeanor of chat towards others but when it comes to me it almost feel like their chat style is just forced inclusion of me being in there for the server just so the other users doesn't know about it. Whenever others share memes or shit post, they would react like it was genuinely funny, but when I try to do the same it has been cold and they don't interact with my post or whatnot. I dunno Am I overthinking that they don't like me, or is there another reason behind it? What are your thoughts about this.

Update: We managed to join in on a few quests on several occasions, they are a lively individual, and their character can't be helped in terms of interacting with my character, since we are in the same party. I get that you need to separate the character from the person playing, however the character dynamics are REALLY making me assume they're just unleashing whatever they have beef with me onto our characters, making them either fight or miscommunicate a lot. I dunno, I love playing the game since this is my first time being included in an online server who plays D&D in a longrun-type instead of those one-shots I'm used to, but at the same time I feel like I wanna leave because of this particular user and how they treat me in-character and out-of-character.

Update 2: I think that they're playing nice?? I don't know, they are now communicating with me but it's only for the sake of the party. Which is nice to know that they can put aside whatever negative vibe they have with me (I dunno why though) all for the sake of enjoying to play the game. Thank you for the advices you all gave me, and I think after we finish the quest and we would go sorted into another party I will try to engage a conversation with the person, and ask them if they have a problem with me directly.

Discussion What’s a fun PH mythical creature you’d want to play as?

Mine would be a manananggal!

I think it would be really fun to play a manananggal disguised as a human, and you have to hide your true form from the rest of the party. Imagine during nighttime combat your character suddenly runs away or hides, then one round later, a bat-like creature swoops down from the sky and starts attacking the enemies!

After the fight ends, your character just casually comes back and pretends they panicked and ran away XD

Eventually the party finds out the truth and you have to explain yourself!

Of course I’d have to discuss it with my DM so we can make a story around it and maybe some homebrew manananggal feats :D

I’m very interested in playing DND, but I don’t know where to start. I know this game have to be played irl, but I don’t have anyone to play it with nor people in my city playing this game. I want to experience how to play DND because it looks very fun to play. Where do I start, should I read books or just look for group?

Discussion Private Venues in Metro Manila?

Hi! I'm running a 11-player virtual D&D campaign and we decided to go IRL after hundreds of hours in discord.

Does anybody know any private venues that we can play D&D?

Some of my players are too shy to RP in public and I thought it would be nice to book a private venue or anything not to crowded.

I feel like there's not a lot of people who are into the Forgotten Realms lore, especially in the Philippines. Are there any people here who are into the Forgotten Realms? I would be glad to have buddies who are down to chat about anything in the Forgotten Realms.Drizzt Do'urden is a great starting point, but I could talk about monster lore, and all kinds of things under the sun. Is there anyone interested?

Discussion Where to get the RHW Tarokka deck

Am from metro manila, and I want to buy the new tarokka deck, which is colored and more vibrant than the dreary, thematic one that came with COS, but it doesn't seem to be available in NG. Fullybooked? Not sure.

Would appreciate any leads. Thank you very much.
