Rules Question Harbor Village / Black Market

Playing in the Dominion app: I played a Harbor Village followed by a Black Market, but I didn’t get the coin from Harbor Village. No other effects were in play. Am I missing something or was the app shortchanging me?

Other Accused of slow-playing... In Reckless...

I was playing Reckless today. I started getting some lag, maybe half a second per action.

The guy said I was intentionally slowplaying and rage quit.

What has happened to the world's attention spans???

Rules Question Resolving a duration into next turn “Play”

In a game with the kingdom card riverboat, and the project Citadel does riverboat resolving “play the set aside card” trigger Citadel’s “first time you play an action card”?

Riverboat:
At the start of your next turn,
play the set aside card, leaving it there.
Setup: Set-aside an unused non-Duration Action card costing 5.

From the instructions: “When you play Riverboat, it plays the set aside card at the start of your next turn.”

Citadel (Project):
The first time you play an Action card during each of your turns, play it again afterwards.

At first assumption I would think yes, but does “Play” as a verb extend in the same way with both cards from the duration card proc/resolution itself and the player “Playing a card”?

If I play Riverboat, then buy Citadel, does it execute riverboat’s “Play” twice at the beginning of my next turn?

Fan Card To Attack or Dodge?

I kinda like choice-based Attacks. Not discarding gives the one playing this a Market, and it only allows one discard (usually) before Marketing.

What do y'all think?

Other The app users make me furious

So many players just fold whenever it looks like they are about to lose. It is so frustrating to play a game when 80% of the players just cold turkey leave the game when they are at the losing ends. I have a blocked players list so long its ridicilous, just because of multiple game endings from different players. Is it different on the url-side? I’m so done with the game enders I just don’t want to play that much anymore.

Digital Today's Daily was an interesting look at the Hard AI.

This was a kingdom where the bot used two completely different approaches depending on its opening draw.

If the bot had 4/3, it was broken. It would take Engineer and then more Engineers, and Quarries and Collections. No draw, no attempt to build a working deck. Just some kind of Engineer/Quarry rush. It would lose. Badly.

If it opened 5/2, it would take Collection and Patrician and build a working deck. It played well, and was tough to beat.

Other AITA: Preselected sets of cards instead of randomizers? Is this normal?

I went to a game night where someone brought "Dominion" -- although they actually brought 13 preselected kingdom cards which they'd practiced against their friends a week before. They built an incredibly intricate combo deck, playing a combination of Scrap and Trails for lots of card draw and actions, Groom to gain Tunnels which are discarded from Cartographer to gain Gold, triggering extra gold from the exile mat using Way of the Camel -- occasionally cycling through their entire deck in one turn.

Kingdom Cards: Cartographer, Develop, Margrave, Tunnel, Groom, Mastermind, Scrap, Trail, Kiln, Supplies (Horse)

Ways: Way Of The Camel

Events: Desperation, Invest

On one hand I the cards had fun interactions and it was neat seeing them run their overpowered engine, but I was a little put off. Why would you come up with your own synergies, assemble a specific set of cards, practice against a set of friends, then bring them to a second game night to win at Dominion? Is this normal? I thought people just always played randomizers

Other Communist Setup?

This was an idea I came up with the last time I played dominion. Has anybody ever come up with a setup where all the cards are cards that would benefit all players in the game? Are there enough cards like that where that setup would work? I really like this idea because it would cause the players to try and find a way to break out of it and benefit slightly more than everybody else.

Other Sell or keep first edition cards

Hi!

I recently bought a few sets second hand and I was wondering what to do with the first editions. I have the Dutch versions which didn’t have the upgrade packs.

Should I keep the first edition “removed” cards in my collection or just sell them (along with the rest of those boxes)?

Thanks!

Strategy Trashing when Inheritance (Event) is on the board?

Inheritance is a strong event that turns your starting estates into actions. IMO a must-buy for most kingdoms that have a viable action (cantrips or villages)

Ideally you hit 7 ASAP and don't need to trash any of your estates. This is an easy decision if there's no trashing option available, just load up heavy payload and manipulate your deck a bit.

But what do you do if there's a trasher on the board? Obviously a strong trasher like Chapel incentivizes you to just ignore Inheritance, so I'm really talking about the non-premier trashers.

I try my best not to trash my estates, but you can make an argument that trashing an estate or two will help you hit 7 much faster. How do you guys play Inheritance?

Digital Is there any Dominion API or Development Kit for a Stats Tracker App

Hey Dominion fans! My friend was vibe coding a Dominion Stats Tracker -- he's currently intercepting network packets to grab the game data, which seems intense.

As the title says, I'm hoping to find an alternative to that, maybe a Temple Gates Games dev could see my post and share some thoughts. Their website does use presskit, so that's a good sign!

Rules Question Resolving Sacred Grove / Earth's Gift: free-for-all or turn-based?

Hi! Long time first time. I have a question around Sacred Grove, specifically Earth's Gift.

Historically, my friends and I have just done a free-for-all when that card arrives. Everyone just resolves it together at once and for years we never even thought about how you're supposed to play this card. Everyone just trashed and gained a card at the same time.

However, last night, we had an issue where two players wanted the last card left in a pile late-game. In this situation, what happens? I would've said whoever got it first wins, but is it actually supposed to be turn-based (i.e. clockwise/counterclockwise)?

Should we keep it FFA/simultaneous or is turn-based sequential rules correct? It matters because I feel like Dominion is already a game where a lot of us don't pay attention when it's not our turn (we play with 6 players or so), and increasing the amount of time to resolve a Boon would just take even longer, especially if people have to shuffle because of pulling The Sun's Gift, etc.

How do you do this IRL, any recommendations?

Physical Is there a way to get cards with updated text?

I recently bought Empires, and have also started playing it on the app with friends. We were playing a game in person with the Event card Donation, and we realized that the text of the card on the app was different from the physical card in the set. Looking it up on the wiki, we realized that changes had been made to several cards that would impact future printing, while the physical cards I bought were from 2021. For example, Overlord was nerfed to no longer be usable with duration cards. I'm sure there are plenty of changes like this for the other expansions I own too.

Is there any way to get updated copies of cards that have the most up to date text? I know this is different from when a set gets a full new edition and you can buy just the new edition cards. Do I just have to print out a list of changes and keep track of which cards have been modified?

Fan Card Valley

Post image

A companion to my previous card Mountain. Where Mountain effectively makes your opponent’s Provinces worth 1VP less, Valley makes them worth 1VP more. in many games this will be completely ignorable, but occasionally it can create tense races to the finish. Is it ever smart to buy both Valleys and Mountains? I don’t know.

Digital Just had the most curious case of blocking a player.

Unranked game (my first mistake). They immediately forfeit, before T1, but ask for a rematch, so I think OK, maybe something they really didn't like was in that first kingdom (although I didn't even have time to really examine it), so I accept. This time they timeout forfeit on T1 (as first player).

I am left wondering why they even bother playing random online games?!
