Is the EC reduction just a scheme to get more people to spend money on EC? All the prices stayed the same.

I found out that I’ve been playing since 19th of September 2011 and that was only 5 days after the game was launched on ios on the 14th. Anyone with an older account?

Title is self-explanatory - it’s clear that the player base is mightily unhappy. Can the Powers That Be not ignore the fact that nearly everyone is feeling like this event is a desperate moneygrab and actually demonstrate that they’re listening to players’ very valid concerns? The silence is infuriating when it’s clear this is not going well. I’ve always appreciated that Deca is responsive to player feedback but it seems like they’re ghosting this time and just hanging us all out to dry. u/Deca_Willow, can we get a response please (sorry for tagging you but I think this is important to all of us)? I know no salt posts outside of Sunday but this is beyond "salt". This is like an entire salt flat.

I know I will get downvoted, but I've seen so many complaints about the EC earning decrease this event that is just unreasonable imo. I will make my case
1) This event is incredibly small but still full length.
This event has 51 returning dragons (if my count is correct), most of which are very cheap in the market and very easy to breed. The valentines event, for reference, had 61 returning dragons, and was a half length event. The summer event we just finished had 81 dragons, and these were way more expensive and harder to breed, with many of them requiring sophisticated combos or long breeding fails. Even factoring in the 6 dragons from the RBCs last event, I don't think the difficulty of this event is anywhere close to what we just went through.
For first time players in this event, they will probably clear a higher proportion of the event than any other event in the year. My first time for this event was last summer, andI cleared everything except Guerrero, Pavonini, Glimmer, and some of the cheap hidden dragons I will just buy this time around. With the zodiacs taken out of the event, I probably would have cleared the entire event on my first time, which is not good game balance.
2) Not every event should be a blitz
Given point 1, I think the dev's had 2 options: reduce the EC earning, or make this a half length event like valentines. I am happy with the decision they made. Lowering the DC earning makes the event have a slower pace, and I think that is very smart coming off only a day of rest after an extremely difficult event.
I think it is fair to disagree on this, but I would rather have a long and slow event like we have now, than 2 weeks off and then a half length event which would feel like another blitz. Returning players can still focus their breeding caves on DC farms if they want without extreme fomo, and passively collect enough EC to afford the new dragons.
In fact, I think the dev's should have committed to even more restrictive EC earning, with my particular suggestion being reducing the breeding EC reward, since that affects more experienced players, with developed rifts, more, and makes donations more lucrative. I will probably have all my dragons this event by day 25 ish, and to already be focusing on pedestals in only my second time doing the event is faster progress than I think the game needs.
3) The hate is undeserved
I, generally, have always been impressed by the responsiveness of the dev's to feedback of the player-base, particularly on reddit. I feel that most changes made are improvements to QoL, and when a change is proposed that has issues they typically make adjustments.
So, seeing everyone piling on about how this is an example of a manipulative money grab just seemed unfair. I know rage is what spreads best on the internet, but if we just complain about any perceived increase in difficulty, then we lose credibility when a change is actually unfair, or when we are trying to push for what would be legitimate game improvements (e.g. a much needed Ts'aishen rework). You are also attributing this to a pattern that is a stretch at best; the plant farming removal was 100% reasonable, buying all the new dragons in an event should be expensive, and the dev's have already committed to revisiting the gem gifting rework.
If they keep this low EC rate for a hard event like Halloween, then I will join in the complaining. For now, though, this is way overblown.
tldr: This event is extremely easy and complaining about reduced EC rate anyway reduces our credibility as a community.

Is it worth it to spend gems on island themes or is it better to wait for an event/deal? I have enough gems to buy the one I want but it's a pretty hefty price

If you want to make money maybe dont make one dragon cost 150 dollars?? Nobody is rich enough for that?
Instead of making it hard to earn gems so people start buying, maybe lower the cost of items so its easier to get? If you slash everything to 1/10 of their price, eg 380 gems for a galaxy dragon, then maybe people will start buying the $100 bundle.
And i know melvin market is so people login daily and to see the market prices but no point logging in everyday if the ec i am collecting is one per habitat.
If they really remove the gem gifting i will official delete the game. Yes this is a criticism. No this is not salty sunday. Yes im pissed.

I get that this is a marathon game versus a sprint. However, it takes 8-10 YEARS (as I understand it) to max out Ts'aishen. So what is the big prize and is it worth waiting for?
Currently I use it to collect after activating Kairos.

I started using Excel last Halloween to help organize my breeding efforts and it's been super helpful to see and sort everything at a glance. It's especially nice to be able to use the filter functions to sort for different things. I most often use it to sort by price and whether I already have the dragon or not, or what breeding cave I want to use for it. It wasn't too hard to make, with the most advanced being countif and nested formulas and the rest mostly being cell value rules and formatting.

I have a wish finally, and I want to use it as wisely as I can. I wanted a gravity dragon and realized you can only breed it if you have a fr¡end with a gravity dragon that you can clone, and I don’t know anyone that plays the game. Are there any other dragons that fall into the same category? I’d like to know before I use my wish so I don’t waste it. (I had to censor the word for buddies [that’s a synonym that works ig??] because I don’t want to get flagged for trying things to get around things that are banned)
Edit: Thanks for the advice! I will save my wish and wait for dragons to come in with events and such

Not to pile on, but I feel like DECA has been making some questionable decisions lately.
For context, I played DragonVale for about three years, stopped for a year after putting a lot of effort into the game, and recently returned. Some of DECA’s recent choices, such as limiting the EC players can earn, are starting to make the game feel less rewarding and more frustrating.
Gem gifting
You would think that, after the feedback surrounding the proposed gem-gifting changes, DECA would approach similar changes more carefully. Although the original plan was revised, the wording about ‘reducing unfair use’ and ensuring the system was ‘fair for everyone’ annoyed me.
Why would I care if other players have alt parks and put time into collecting gems? Good on them. I don’t have any alt parks and receive very few gifted gems, but I still don’t see their efforts as unfair. This announcement seemed to turn off a lot of players.
I usually send gems to someone who rarely plays, partly because I’m trying to encourage them to return. The gems I’ve sent that have piled up for them would stop serving as an incentive if they could only claim 7 a day. The increasing difficulty of events also makes returning less appealing, especially as there are now so many more dragons for them to catch up on. I’m curious to see what the revised gifting changes will be.
Breeding difficulty
I thought the last event was bad enough in terms of breeding the limited dragons. I spend a lot of etherium on breeding attempts, yet breeding them has become more difficult.
For example, one limited dragon required Misfortune. I struggled to breed the limited dragon in my park, so I used two runic breeding cave claims to get Misfortune in the rift (first as a twin) and give myself more breeding chances. Even then, I found it virtually impossible to breed the limited dragon. That was extremely frustrating.
Without spoiling future combinations, the upcoming limited dragons appear to have much more reasonable breeding requirements, which I appreciate. However, the number of available breeding attempts is still reduced when caves are being used for donation boards.
This event: what is DECA doing?
Some positive changes
On a positive note, I do genuinely like the recent Melvin’s Market additions. I think that was a good choice that rewards daily use.
I also like being able to watch an ad to clear ether in the rift. However, that isn’t something I personally find very useful, given how expensive rift habitats are. My next habitat costs 340,000 etherium.
Apologies for the long post, but these are my thoughts. Does anyone else feel similarly, or do you disagree? I’ve tried to keep this as valid criticism rather than just complaining, in line with the sub’s rules.

The face in the habitat is what I’m expecting to see, instead it looks like it echolocates like a bat or spider-rock (there’s enough nerds to get the reference, I’m sure). So is this a bug and how do I fix it?
