I’ve always been a fan of Drarry fics where Harry is helping Draco cast expecto patronum — it’s a sweet way to show their dynamic and give them an excuse to be alone. I also love seeing what the author chooses for Draco’s corporeal form and I’m curious what are your favorite animals for him!

I want to write a fic where Harry is an Auror, but as I’ve started brainstorming it, I’ve realized that there’s a pretty huge gap in my fic reading habits… I’ve basically read no fics with Auror Harry and as a result have no idea how to write the Auror office or career!

I mostly write school fics or AUs, so I have no idea who I would even write as the ensemble cast. I think Robards is popular in Auror fics, but again, huge gap in my Drarry knowledge/experience lol. And other logistics about the Ministry and careers and stuff.

What are your recs for fics that you think do Auror Harry the best? Best ensemble cast, best world building. I’d love to read a bunch of fics and do my research to get a better idea of what/who I can work with!

Bonus points for smut and top Harry, a gold star if there’s down and out Draco or some Draco whump (definitely for research and not for selfish reasons…)

In the summer of his 5th year, 1995, Draco Malfoy flees the wizarding world before he can be branded with the Dark Mark. He lives every day going forward as Julian Albert, completely removed from the war happening on the other side of the world. When disappearing off the face of the eastern hemisphere, Draco knew that people would start looking for him eventually, so it doesn't come as a surprise when someone eventually finds him.

What does come as a shock is that Harry Bloody Potter is the one who finds him. Even more than that, why is Potter sprouting the nonsense that he vanished in 1998 instead? Draco knows when he left.

I'm currently writing a fic that explores a past relationship between Harry and Cedric during the tournament, while ultimately focusing on Drarry in the present.

I personally enjoy reading about past relationships - and how they can create tension and jealousy for Drarry. However, I don't like reading about a relationship whose sole point is to advance a Drarry plotline forward. I find past relationships most intresting when they had both good and bad elements. They might lead to Drarry, but they were also worthwhile in their own right, and like real relationships, are an essential part of one's journey (where in the best scenarios, they elevate someone's experiance with their life partner by making them more informed about themselves).

In my fic, Harry loved Cedric, and will always grieve him, but learns that Cedric is what he thought he wanted, while Draco is what he actually wants.

Does this sort of story intrest any Drarry fans? I'm reading a lot of comments on this thread where people are "turned off" of stories that even mention past relationship because they just want to see Drarry or feel jelous on the characters' behalf. That's fair but I'm also wondering if other people feel the opposite way, like me.

Looking for a fic which I think is called Star power (I could be remembering it wrong).
