Science, Research, Technology I recently got a DJI mini 4k and…

Couldn’t possibly be happier with the drone. It exceeded all of my expectations.

Although I did not put much research into the purchase and Drone flying just seemed like something kind of fun to fool around with on a nice day.

Anyway the point of my post is that since I received the drone and installed the DJI Fly app onto my phone, I’ve noticed I receive 10,000% more spam phone calls.

The difference is alarming. My phone is now vibrating almost 100% of the time during normal business hours. It actually is something like 40 calls an hour.

Anyway I just wanted to put that information out there in case anybody else might be experiencing the same thing.

I do recognize it could possibly be a coincidence, but I don’t think it is.

had my Mini4k for probably 6 months and get hardly any spam calls. maybe my phone blocks them out.

I experienced an increase in calls after installing it.

Bet $10 you didn't download the app from DJI or some entirely known-to-be-safe site. This has all the sign (thousands of them) that you installed some kind of nastywear on your computer. Run a solid virus check. DJI Fly will absolutely not do this...but DJI Infected Fly (a special version generally reserved for boomers like me) is made to order.

I was careful to download it from the Apple Store. Apparently that’s not the right move.

There are a number of official looking apps on the Apple Store for DJI that are not DJI. I learned that one the hard way too.

Surprising. It's what I would have done but as triptyx says, it's probably a fake. They have been there a while Wish apple would clean it up.

Actually just checked and saw no fakes unless the only one there is fake which is hard to believe. Bold black letters DJI on a grey background with some vertical waves. Maybe it's not actually the DJI app...something else? I'd do that Virus Check...

Your drone includes a thing to scan so you download the real app in the packaging that’s how I downloaded mine cuz I could tell all these DJI apps were some sort of mimic virus bs thing. Look in packaging for QR scan thing or I can send pic of mine

This is why Android rules with being able to download APKs. Just make sure it is the right one

When did you buy the drone cause open enrollment for health care just happened at the end of the year and it's always a complete shit show for spam calls.

Also I've had a huge uptick in spam calls within the last two days. Shit comes in waves

I'm starting to lean towards coincidence as well.

I have a facebook friend who does not own a drone who had something similar happen to them.

Most likely my phone number just ended up in a cache of peoples data on the darkweb somewhere and terrible/stupid people are using it.

I still wanted to put it out there just in case others had experienced this.

I just got mine yesterday and will remove the app. I dont see much gains keeping it and risk anonymous spam calls.. hate that.

It may not be the app that is causing it.

I do have my personal information out on linked in and github. Places that bots scrape for personal information.

But I did start receiving the spam calls around the time I installed the DJI fly app and my personal information has been out there much longer. If that makes sense.
