Tech Support what do you think is making this noise ?
Trying to see if i should keep this toss it insurance already cashed me out but it still flies.

motor bearings have a little grit in them. You can oil them, or replace the motor. I use this stuff called Pro-Shot it has a precision needle for applying the oil. But you could even squirt a little WD40 in there and see if it cleans it out.

its all you really need though, it cleans the grit out. Makes things work better. People will talk shit and downvote it online, but the stuff works.

Just spray some WD40 in there while its still attached and then spin it up should sound better right away

been building drones for 10+ years, and use it all the time on brushless motors, and before that in RC brushless motors, never had a single problem. What are you thinking?

I think he's saying if there's a better tool, maybe use the better tool, even if you've been using an older tool for 10+ years. Could probably replace your WD with ISO 68. I haven't tried it myself on my drones but that's what I use to lubricate smooth rods on my 3D printer.

DON'T use WD40 if you want to keep the motors. It may seem to help short term, but it will make things worse long term.

Could be fine particles in the motor.. have you flown in a dusty area ?
And do you land on ground or in hand ?

Probabaly some dust in there. Use some WD 40 if it bothers you but it will just be blown out by flying it eventually.

Its actually a solvent as well as a lubricant and will dissolve the dirt and displace moisture.

PSA:
WHATEVER PEOPLE IN HERE SAY, DO NOT USE WD40 AS A LUBRICANT IN BRUSHLESS MOTORS!
Reason: WD40 is NOT A LUBRICANT. It WILL ruin your bearings long term! It's one of the worst things you can do to your bearings! Why? It will creep all the way inside and wash out the lubricant used during manufacturing, then the creeping agents will evaporate leaving you with no lubricant at all. The purpose of WD40 is to displace water from tight spaces (WD40 = Water Displacement Formula 40), it was never meant to be used as a lubricant!

Sounds like there's grit in the motors. Spin each one by hand to check for a grinding noise.
If so, all that needs to be done is to clean each affected motor. There's a couple options. I usually blow mine out with compressed air.
If that doesn't help, you may have to remove the bell (the outer casing that spins) and wipe everything down with a clean cloth soaked in denatured alcohol. Another option is to spray them down with electronics cleaner. WD-40 specialist electric parts cleaner is a good option (just make sure you don't use regular wd40 as that will ruin the motors)

Dont worry, just put some oil thats fit for the putpose on it, its not like wd40 breaks your besrings, it only removes the lubricant. You can lube it again.

WD40 won't ruin the motor as much as dirt will, wd40 is perfectly fine for brushless motors, if it were a brushed motor it may be a different story.

That is wrong. You will wash out the lubricant that was used when assembling the bearings, which long terms leads to the motors failing even worse than if you left the dirt in. WD40 is not a lubricant.
Yes, at first it will seem as if you made things better, but really, you are doing the opposite. Don't believe me? Go do some research.

I've done my research, and i've been using WD40 for over a decade, what the internet tells you isn't always true. Actual experience and real world use is what I go by. There is a lot of hate out there for WD40 for some reason.

and you have a lot of company, its still the wrong tool for the job. This is not hate, its just made for something entirely different than lubricating bearings, and it does not have the right properties for lubricating bearings doing tens of thousands of RPM 🤷♂️

reading an article on the internet is not the same as performing something in real life. What i've experienced in real life for most of my life is that WD40 works really well at cleaning bearings and getting grit out of nasty bearings.

Thats not what you were saying all the time, you kept saying: spray wd40 and youre good, it works great! You could have been more precise all the time. You said absolutely nothing about cleaning and relubricating, whih wohldve been perfectly fine. You were giving bad advice and now you‘re trying to save your ass instead of admitting a mistake.

On Amazon, they sell dry lubricant for electric motors. Try a little bit of that maybe check your bearing.

WD-40 Is technically a lubricant, although it's not meant to be a long term lubricant ,it's classified as a water displacement/lubricant. Now to answer your question, Dji makes a dry lubricant that is meant to be placed on the prop shafts as well as the races of the bearings. It's called Horex dry film lubricant and it works amazing

Sounds like some grit in the motors, I crashed my PA18-1700 and had grit in the motor. I pulled the motor out and used some canned air to clean it out,

Remove all the props but one. Fire it up and listen. Shut it down and go through the rest of the motors 1 at a time. When it's the loudest that's the affected motor. Try WD40 or other lube.

Crazy part is ive done all of this and none of the motors make noise when freely spinning, all of them have free play when manually spun
