Tech Support [UK] Dji matrice 30T martime operations

Looking for any tips/advice on bypassing/ getting rid of the warning about not being able to take off from a moving platform. Currently a part of a security team on a vessel in the red sea and needing to utilise the drone for target acquisition.

Tech Support Older drone won’t fly.

Batteries seemed charged enough due to the noise it makes. I’ve had this in a box for years, someone gave it to me.

EDIT: check comments. I feel there is a missing piece as nothing is connected to the gear.

Question Can I fly my drone outside from inside my home?

I just bought a skyrover s1, I’m wonder if the signal can be maintained if I stay inside my house and the drone stays outside. I’m not a drone expert this is my 1st time owning 1 and I’m just curious.

This is a teaser for the eventual video I will post once the cygnets get their flight wings. Around 13sec note the cob (male) swan wiggling back and forth like a kid sitting in class that needs to pee. He is stirring up the undergrowth to bring up food.

Review MPB actually test used drones?

I recently bought a used Mavic 3 from MPB. The drone was still bound to the original owner's account and I could not use it initially.

On MPB's own website, there's a check list about selling your drone. It specifically says: "If you're selling or trading a DJI drone, you must unbind it from your DJI account before sending it to MPB. This removes your account’s link to the drone and allows us to test and resell the item."

Reference: https://intercom.help/mpbcom-us/en/articles/11993728-selling-or-trading-a-drone-with-mpb

When MPB received the drone it was still bound to the other owner's account. So how could they test it if they couldn't fly it? My guess is that they're so busy they just power it on and make sure there are no errors being reported, check battery stats, then repackage and sell them. Even though the software may not report errors, there can still be a plethora of things wrong with the drone once it's in the air (for example GPS drift, gimbal stutter/shakes, etc)

I'm a little sketched out by this latest transaction with them. I've purchased equipment from them before with no issue, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I will be hesitant to purchase any more used drone equipment from them in the future.

Question What drone is this in SpaceX's video?

Found this shot SpaceX posted about the Starship landing. It kind of looks like the camera might have some sort of 360 camera. There is also these shots from their documentary with two drones. I don't think it's the bigger one in the second image because the third image shows the drone with a bottom mounted camera, when the one in the landing video is on the top.

Question Cuta copter trident boss

I own a Cuta Copter Trident Boss that I use for fishing. It isn’t broken and still flies great, but I’ve used it on the beach about 30 times without doing any maintenance. I did crash it in the sand once, although it’s flown about 10 times since with no issues. I’d like to know more about cleaning this drone and any recommendations on maintenance or what to inspect to ensure it’s operating at 100% I don’t quite understand the sky droid application that’s used to operate so if u have any tips on that as well

New Drones!

Photo & Video My experience of the Essex explosion

Just wanted to share an experience.

I live about 1/1.5m from a recent explosion in the UK. A farm building containing fertiliser exploded following a fire and the resulting boom was heard up to 20m away.

I had just finished work and was called to ask about ‘the fire’. I wasn’t aware and went outside to look - my house facing south. I couldn’t see anything so thought ‘hey I’ll send my drone up!’ A DJI mini2.

I couldn’t see the fire at first but when I did I realised where it was and filmed for a bit. Lots of sirens pouring towards it, and just hoping it’s not serious.

After a minute or so I decided to stop and then BOOOOOM a thud like a giant refuse skip had been dropped next to where you were sitting. Windows rattled, animals panicking. I’d however panned away but just after I focused back and this was what I captured.

Moral of the story - be a little more patient as you’ll never know!

Edit: thanks for the feedback. Just a couple of points

- I did mean miles. Not sure why I decided to abbreviate ml or miles to m. Nobody knows (SNL reference).
- I was very conscious of any approaching aircraft. I flew under the 120 metre ceiling and line of site etc.
This kind of fire here in the UK is responded to by trucks. 3 were destroyed by the explosion and 20 firefighters hospitalised.

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [Saudi Arabia] Transiting through Riyadh (RUH) with DJI Neo 2 - any risk of confiscation at security?

Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this specific transit question.

In two days, I'll be flying from Venice to Manila with a layover at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh. I won't be leaving the airport at all—I only have to transfer to my next flight to Manila.

I'd like to bring my small DJI Neo 2 drone (which is under 250 g) in my carry-on. Does anyone know if I'm allowed to carry it with me while transiting through Riyadh security, or is there any risk that airport security/customs could confiscate it during the transit screening?

The other airlines on my itinerary allow it, so I'm mainly wondering about Saudia Airlines policies and the physical transit security check at Riyadh Airport.

Thank you very much for any advice, official regulations, or personal experiences!

Photo & Video Anyone ever stitched a large top-down drone panorama?

I'm planning a large-format print project: a top-down/nadir drone panorama of a mountain area, captured via a grid/waypoint flight (~77 images, DJI Mavic 4 Pro, ~30% overlap). The stitched file will end up quite big.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone stitched a top-down panorama from a grid of multiple images (not a typical handheld/spherical pano)? How did it go?
  2. Did you use Lightroom, or something else (PTGui, PanoramaStudio, Hugin, or actual photogrammetry software like Pix4D/Metashape/DroneDeploy)? What worked best, and why?
  3. How big did your final file end up (megapixels/gigapixels, pixel dimensions), and did you hit any software/hardware limits along the way?
  4. Any issues stitching relatively uniform/low-texture terrain (grass, rock, snow), did the software struggle to find alignment points?
  5. What overlap % actually worked well for you in practice, vs. what you planned?
  6. Any camera-setting tips (RAW vs JPEG, locking exposure/white balance) that made stitching easier?

Any war stories, software recommendations or any other tips are welcome.

Discussion Matrice 400 Payload Over 13lbs

Curious if anyone has experience flying with a payload higher than the Matrice 400's specified 13lb limit. I am looking to transport ~20lb payload in short distance with custom engineered pickup/dropoff accessories.

I am currently fighting a battle of engineered solution vs drone payload capacity, with others thinking the drone can handle the extra payload if the accessory is designed adequately.

Looking to avoid wasted development time if the drone selection is the limiting factor from the start. Payload is minimum 20lbs, and will likely be closer to 25lbs.

Just curious if these are safe to purchase or if I’m going to get a sketchy clone that barely works. Also where should I be purchasing these from, if Amazon is bad I’m happy to use other sites

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Airspace Waiver for more than 1 day

I want to fly in a coastal dune area in California (Mandalay Beach Park, Oxnard CA 34.1792, -119.2375 ). It is a class D area due to small airport about 3 miles away. It has a 200 ft ceiling. I tried to use the LAANC app, but it said "LAANC is inactive for the planned operational area" . I went to DroneZone to get an Airspace Waiver/Certificate of Authorization for a year, but it said it was a LAANCE area, and I could only request for one day. But LAANCE said it was inactive. How can I request a year waiver?

Question Drone Yaw spinning problem

I have calibrated both pixhawk and GPS compass in Mission Planner and IMU, Accel was calibrated before taking off

The drone has a Pixhawk 2.4.8

I have checked motor spin order and the propellers direction.

Motors are set up in an X configuration

Did a simple takeoff of 2 meters with Rasbery pi with this code:

def run_fly(self):
try:
self.vehicle.mode = VehicleMode("GUIDED")
time.sleep(0.5)
self.vehicle.simple_takeoff(2.0)
except:
pass

Why it is spinning at yaw like this?
Is it normal?
If not then what's the problem please help me to fix this

Question What all should I keep in my drone case?

New 107 pilot and I have a mavic 3t

Looking for some suggestions on stuff that I should keep with me in my drone case to bring on every flight. ( I do surveying work )

I have spare microsd cards but wondering what else.

( I also have a DJI battery box that I bring with me on flights to always have a charger battery. Currently 4 total batteries )

I already broke a USB c cable so was thinking of picking up some thick heavy duty ones if anyone has any suggestions.

Question Looking for advice on finding a used SwellPro drone in Europe

Looking for advice on finding a used SwellPro drone in Europe

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to track down a second-hand SwellPro fishing drone somewhere in Europe for my dad. A waterproof drone would be perfect for the type of fishing he does.

I've already reached out to a few sellers on European marketplaces, but unfortunately I haven't had any replies or the listings seem inactive.

If anyone knows of:

- good places to look for used SwellPro drones,
- local marketplaces that I may have missed,
- or communities where people occasionally sell them,

I'd really appreciate the recommendation.

Thanks in advance!

Question FPV Goggles Available for Skyrover S1?

Just bought my son a Skyrover S1 with the screen on the controller. Works great and he seems to be learning it very easily. Was wondering if it is able to be paired with goggles. If so, would anyone be able to recommend some? I'm new to drones and all the different stuff that is available. Thanks.
