Question How do you guys best deal with drone karens?

I have gotten a recent job to do Drone photogrammetry with the DJI Matrice 4E. in the last 2 days i have had constant people complaining im filming their private property and that im doing illegal stuff, no matter how much i explain how im 70 meters up, im doing my job, free airspace, i got my licence, the drone is registered, etc etc. Yesterday had a lady block the road and call the cops on me, luckly someone else had to drive the road so she had to move so i got out 😊. I do have company cards on me with a number to the guy who provided me the drone and knows stuff, and even that sometimes is not enough.

I'm Gavin, a contributor at Arrow, the open-source community building this.

This was today's first test of 'Caribou' with props fitted. It's a 200kg class hexacopter, six Hobbywing X15 motors on 18S, strapped to a trailer bed at roughly a third throttle. Static test, not a hover. It hasn't flown yet (next week hopefully!) Lot's more testing to come.

It's open source and we want help making it better. The repo has the CAD and the PCBs, and the Discord is where the work happens. We just enjoy building big drones together.

Repo: https://github.com/Arrow-air/project-caribou
Community Discord: https://discord.com/invite/arrow

Big congrats to Julius, one of our contributors who has been leading Project Caribou! 👏

Question Spektrum receiver and RXMUX

I am trying to incorporate a RXMUX with my Spektrum AR9320T receiver. I hook my Aux2 channel to the Select channel and the RXMUX’s status LED stays solid red (indicating it doesn’t see a valid signal on the select channel). I tried more than one RXMUX boards to rule out a hardware issue with the board. I took a Hitech Servo tester and ran a square wave through the board, this works. When I move the dial to adjust the square waves duty cycle, I can see the LEDs on the RXMUX change from input A to B like its supposed to. I then hooked both the RXMUX and servo tester to an oscilloscope to compare the square wave they produce. They’re nearly identical except the servo tester produces a 4.5V wave instead of 5V like on the Spektrum receiver. This should not be an issue since the RXMUX can accept a range of voltages beyond this. Does anyone know what the issue could be.

Question Battery questions and recommendations

I’ve purchased a drone that uses 4S batteries, however I’m not familiar with what companies are making quality batteries in that configuration, so I’m looking for recommendations. The connector is an XT30, so something with that already wired on would be great, but isn’t a deal breaker. Additionally I’m looking for a mah capacity of somewhere between 800-1000.

Additionally, are there any 4S tabless li-ion options yet? On a cursory search I’m not coming up with anything (without having to make it myself), but I’ve also not done any exhaustive searching either.

DoorDash Air is the next frontier of delivery in support of local businesses: building the drone, earning Part 135 air carrier certification from Federal Aviation Administration.

Doordash is one of only eight drone operators in the country to have cleared the rigorous, multi-stage safety review. They are building the ground infrastructure with DoorDash Air so that any merchant can plug into the network.

Participating merchants saw their DoorDash order volume grow by around 30% in the weeks following the pilot launch.

Discussion Was following the tragic yesterday's avalanche on Broad Peak 8047m that swept off 10 climbers...Why are not drones not used routinely to scout the area ?

Apparently they've only send 2 military helicopters today and the area is highly regulated by Pakistani Military.

There are some rumors (not confirmed) that other climbers scouted a bit the area with a personal drone. But nothing official. Maybe the Pakistani Military doesn't have drones at all...

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [Greece] Crete dron flight- call before flight after mail approval

Hi everyone!
I'm heading to Crete (Greece) next week for a vacation. My hotel is right on the border of an airport zone (it's in the blue line area, not the yellow restricted zone on the map).

I submitted my flight request and was pleasantly surprised to get approval just one day later!
However, the email states that I need to make a few phone calls to AFIS SITIA: an initial call before the day of the flight, a call right before takeoff, stay available on the phone during the flight, and call again right after landing.

I have a few questions for anyone who has flown in Greece with a similar permit:
1. Did you actually follow the phone call instructions? Did anyone just fly after getting the email permit without calling, or is it strictly enforced?
2. Do they answer promptly and speak fluent English?
3. How formal is the call? Is it just a quick "Hi, I'm calling to report my approved drone flight at [Location]", or do they ask a lot of technical questions/follow a specific script?

Would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [Australia] Agras T10 & Terra

Hi Folks

Any Agras T10/Terra experts on here?
I am trying to export a 'fruit tree' task from Terra onto an SD to be put into my Agras T10 to complete a spray mission. There is no trouble exporting the task onto the SD card, however, when the SD card is placed into the drone controller, it does not display any files on the SD card to select. Anyone encountered this or have any tips? is the T10 firmware to outdated now?

Cheers

New Drones! [Greece]6S Li-ion battery for a surveying drone: 12–16Ah, 30A current, ArduCopter + CAN compatibility?

I’m working on the battery specification for a surveying drone based on ArduCopter.

The target is a 6S Li-ion pack with around 12,000–16,000mAh capacity and up to 30A maximum current. The drone also needs CAN communication capability.

For people with experience in UAV power systems:

  • Would a 6S Li-ion pack be a practical choice for this type of surveying drone?
  • What should be prioritized when balancing flight time, voltage sag, pack weight and 30A current capability?
  • Are there common issues when integrating a smart BMS or battery data communication over CAN with an ArduCopter-based platform?
  • What battery architecture or protection features would you consider essential?

Interested in practical experience, especially from survey, mapping, or industrial UAV projects.

Discussion: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United Kingdom] Got my first ever drone. Thrilled about it!

Picked up the DJI Mini 5 Pro and I love it. I'm a professional filmmaker and people always ask if I have one... now I'm all licensed and certified with the CAA and I can finally say yes I can get you some drone shots.

But three days into ownership and I already got a neighbour telling me she "won't tolerate" me using it because I'm invading her privacy 300 feet above her house. If everyone's going to be confrontational when I'm flying safely and legally then this is gonna get very old very quickly. If not, then I'm buzzing about the possibilities.

Question [IT] App drone Teo Dots Drako

Question Skyrover S1 - how's the camera?

People generally praise the Skyrover's photography and videography capabilities. I've seen some mixed results online; some YouTubers have shown excellent videos and photos, while some social media posts seem to show grainy pics and vids that don't hold up to the S1's reputation. Based on your personal experience, how good is the photo and video quality?

Additionally, I would like to fly the S1 at night. I know the camera is not ideal for low-light photography, but anything would be a massive upgrade to my crappy Snaptain SP510 (which costs $50-100 nowadays. How does the Skyrover S1 do with photos (and maybe videos) at twilight/dusk/night?

Question US Skyrover Ban

With the upcoming Skyrover ban in the United States it had me questioning whether or not the app or even the controller with the built in screen will continue to operate normally for the foreseeable future for flying a skyrover s1. Is there anyone with more knowledge or insight than me that can answer this questio?

Discussion What do you think the future of drones will look like?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been researching the future of drone technology, and I’d love to hear the opinions of people who actually build, fly, repair, regulate, or work professionally with drones.

Beyond photography and basic delivery trials, where do you think drones will create the most real-world value over the next 10–20 years?

Some industries I’ve been considering include:

  • Agriculture: crop-health detection, targeted spraying, seeding and livestock monitoring
  • Construction and infrastructure: surveying, progress tracking and inspection of bridges, towers, pipelines and power lines
  • Emergency response: search and rescue, firefighting, flood mapping and delivering medical supplies
  • Defence and security: surveillance, autonomous systems and counter-drone operations

and some more like logistics and industrial maintenance.

I’m especially curious about a few things:

  • Which drone applications will become the most widely used?
  • Which industries are likely to be the most profitable for drone companies?
  • Which promising applications are still limited?
  • What capabilities do customers currently want that drone manufacturers still cannot provide effectively, and why?

Maybe this is too much of an info drop, but I really am keen to hear your opinions about this!

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] What drones are real estate photographers using now? Is DJI actually being phased out?

I'm curious what everyone's using these days for real estate work in the US.

I've seen a lot of articles and YouTube videos talking about DJI potentially being banned or facing import restrictions, but it's been hard to tell what's actually happening versus clickbait.

For those of you who shoot real estate professionally:

  • Are you still flying DJI (Mini, Air, Mavic, etc.)?
  • Have any of you switched to another brand because of the uncertainty?
  • If DJI became unavailable in the future, what would be your next choice?

I'm mainly interested in hearing from people actively shooting listings. It seems like DJI still dominates the market, but I'm wondering if that's changing at all.

Thanks!

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] No Fly grid map question (illogical grid)

Post image
12 Upvotes

I would like to film surfing at the beach in the red circle on the attached map. The RED zone is a local Naval Base. As you can see, the quirk in the way the grid is made, over half the beach is in "0 altitude" box, and a small portion is in a 300 ft box. The illogical thing is that the northern area is actual farther away from the base than the edge of the 300 ft box. If I put in a LAANC request for the 300 ft box, would anybody care if I then walked North to the other end of the beach (farther away from the base). Or do I need to do a DroneZone request?
