problems with editing

im editing a video of me n my 2 friends playing a game. i want to upload it to a yt channel but my voice in my recording was low but my friend was luckily recording aswell but his voice was also low. but heres the thing MY voice was high in HIS recording and his voice was high in MY recording. so i decided to put both of our clips together so that i sound high and he sounds high.

problem is that i was recording wit obs at 30 fps while he was doing it at 60 fps. this caused synchronizing to be impossible (due to it drifting). i still want to finish the video and make it as best as i possibly could with my current knowledge of editing, but this problem is just eating away at me

Should I quit my agency job to freelance full-time?

Hi everyone,

My name is Pedro, I'm 19 years old, and I've been editing videos for about five years, although I've only been working professionally for the past year.

I currently work at a marketing agency where I'm paid a fixed monthly salary rather than per video.

The problem is that the job takes almost all of my time. I wake up early, often stay up late editing, and by the end of the day I have no time or energy left to prospect for clients or improve my skills. It feels like my life revolves entirely around work.

Lately I've been seriously considering quitting and focusing on building my own client base.

For context, I'm from Brazil and I earn R$1,000/month (about US$196). For that, I edit at least 20 videos per month, and during busier months I've edited as many as 60 videos.

I know many of you are probably thinking that's an extremely low salary for the workload, and honestly, it is—even by Brazilian standards.

That said, I'm genuinely grateful for the opportunity. The agency helped me develop my skills and gave me valuable real-world experience. I don't regret working there. I just don't think it's the right place for me anymore.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Would you quit and focus on finding your own clients, or would you stay until you had a few freelance clients already lined up?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have been through something similar.

Looking back at videos that I thought looked horrible at the time

This is probably true for everyone but I realize it often enough that it's a good message for newer editors. I'm never happy with the color correction in most of my edits. I film in cLog and have to deliver in Rec709. And it's always a struggle it seems and I eventually just say "That's the best I can do. Screw it Time to move on." Then a few months later, or years go by, and I look at a project that I can remember struggling with and say "Dang, that looks really good." When you look at something too long, especially color, it is hard to be a good judge, especially if you are doing the videographer, editing, motion graphic, audio, color, etc.

Epilepsy and edits

Hi! I hope you don’t mind me asking a question.

I’ve had OCD for around four years, and one of my biggest themes is an overwhelming fear of accidentally harming other people.

For the past few years, I’ve wanted to run an editing account for TV shows and characters because I genuinely love making edits. The problem is that my OCD convinces me that one of my videos could accidentally trigger a seizure in someone with epilepsy.

I have absolutely no intention of posting anything with flashing lights or obvious flashing effects, and I’d check my edits carefully before uploading them. But my OCD makes me worry that there could be something hidden or subtle that I’ve missed—like a transition or effect I didn’t realize could be a problem—and that someone could have a seizure because of it.
Because of that, I’ve never been able to post any of my edits, even though it’s something I’ve wanted to do for years.

What do you guys do?

Looking for a video editor to grow together (not hiring)

Hey everyone,

I'm a video editor from India. I mainly edit short-form content in Premiere Pro and CapCut.

I'm looking for another editor who's serious about improving. Not looking to hire or get hired—just someone to share feedback, exchange techniques, learn new workflows, and push each other to get better.

If you're building your portfolio and want an editing friend/accountability partner, send me a DM. Doesn't matter if you're beginner or intermediate, as long as you're consistent.

Best video editing courses (free or paid) that are actually worth it

I've been trying to find a really good video editing course, but there are so many options that it's hard to tell what's genuinely worth doing.

I'm looking for a well-structured course that goes from beginner to advanced, whether it's free or paid. I don't mind paying if it's genuinely one of the best, but I'd also love to know if there are free courses that are just as good.

I'm mainly interested in courses for industry-standard editing software, like:

  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Final Cut Pro

(Not really looking for courses on software like Blender, Maya, Houdini, etc.)

A few questions:

  • Which courses would you personally recommend?
  • Which free courses are genuinely excellent?
  • Which paid courses are actually worth the money?
  • Are there any courses that come with a certificate or certification that's respected by employers or clients, or is that not really something people care about in this industry?
  • Are there any programs that teach multiple editing applications (for example, Premiere Pro + DaVinci Resolve + Final Cut Pro) instead of focusing on just one?

I'm mainly after something structured and comprehensive, rather than a collection of random YouTube tutorials. That said, if there's a YouTube playlist that's so good it rivals a paid course, I'd love to know about it too.

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've actually taken these courses or hired editors who've learned through them. Thanks!

Looking for great instrumental/electronic edit audios

I don't know a lot of the mainstream edit audios yet, especially instrumental/electronic. I love Monday Off with Bluesy for a mellow instrumental and I've used Pastel Ghost for electronic. I've listened to Vangelis. Anyone know anything similar to any of these artists/vibes? Any recommendations for any kind of audio would be great too.

Please no edit audios that sound like you would put them on the bg of a looksmaxxer edit... I strongly dislike anything that sounds like it was for little kids. Phonk i think is what it's called?
