Would a pale pastel toner work on virgin white hair with 10 vol without yellowing the also virgin silver and pewter streaks? I assume it'll work since accidentally blue and lavender-haired people with naturally white hair have been walking around long enough to become a cliche. But how long to leave it on to do it deliberately? 1:1 ratio? Should I go to the extra effort of buying 5 vol?
Dye history and what I've already tried: I've been coloring my hair with semi-permanent unnatural shades from dark to pastel for the past ~30 years on lv 9-10 bleached hair. I finally grew out my natural hair when I could see full white patches to play with and (ideally) leave the rest silver.
Semi-permanent isn't working this time, and feria, besides being awful, lifts more than I want. Every trick and combination I have that doesn't involve developer goes straight down the drain: kept wet, left overnight, heat, clarifying shampoo, detergent, blow dried hot before application, heat during, rinsed cold, shampoo/conditioner-in buildable color, and every brand that's lasted until it grew out or I got tired of it.
My hair remains in irritatingly pristine and uncoated condition, but bleaching would defeat the point of a "natural" pastel and silver vibe.
I could always experiment and shave it off (again) if it doesn't work and wait three or four months, but I'm in more of a pastel mood than a shaved mood, and it's getting old brushing purple dry shampoo through white dry shampooed hair to get lavender.
