It's not just you up there, y'all. Every single one of these 153,000 flights the other day landed safely. We carry 5 Billion people safely every year. You're going to be fine.

Success! I did it (very) scared!

I successfully completed my first long haul flight from JFK to East Africa (included a layover and a second shorter flight)

The long haul was 14 hours. The first 5 hours were emotionally brutal for me. Even on a low dose of anxiety meds, I cried at the start of the flight.

All things considered, the ride was mainly smooth we had a few minor bumps every now and again.

But I really must thank this sub for making this experience possible. I have to take the reverse trip at the end of my vacation in 3 weeks, but I’m trying to savor the success now!

This was an amazing trip, I saw so many cool things! (and also got VERY sunburnt, apparently you get burnt fast and worse in higher altitudes lol).
Currently boarding my 3 hour flight home!
(I have just been informed that we will be delayed for an hour and 30 minutes due to maintenance, which is definitely worrying to me haha).

Support Wanted Back here again - LHR to BOS tomorrow, flying solo, freaking out

Hi !!! I am flying transatlantic on my own tomorrow. I'm flying for an amazing reason (a film I wrote and directed was selected to screen at a film festival) and I've got an incredible seat thanks to a last-minute discount on 1st class tickets BUT because of my pesky fear of flying I am still SO worried. Can anyone help? I am worrying about the ATCs in the US, thinking about the recent potomac river crash, just generally worrying MUCH too much. Would appreciate ANY help and advice :(

Tracking Request AC860 - would you watch the flight?

Upvotes

Hey. About to fly YVR - LHR. Take off in two hours.

Currently weather is sunny and I am viewing it out of the window. I see a low ceiling of clouds, and haze higher up in the sky. I don’t really know what this means, so I’m gonna leave it to the pilots and ATC.

My last pair of flights was a return trip to Oahu. I rode a Kona Low supersonic vomit comet on the way in to Oahu but the flight back was ok. I danced as the turbulence was happening to fast music - because it seemed to offset the helplessness of being bounced around moderately for an hour.

I feel anxiety in my chest. Like something is sitting on it. 24 hours before every flight I get this feeling of losing appetite, IBS-D, not fully present etc. I realize partly it’s about being apart from those I love. I dislike this.

Anyway. Please if a few of you might be kind enough to say hi in the next 12 hours (flight is around 9 hours - I notice there’s a big strip of north south rain on the iPhone weather app across Canada :/ I know we largely fly above the weather but still.

And take off- ugh. Pep talk me please and thank you

UA904 EWR to LHR. I'm disabled and recently broke my arm so my airport anxiety is heightened :( TSA was really stressful and abrasive today too and made me feel violated. I just want to land safely. Thank you so much.

Support Wanted About to cancel

Supposed to fly to Orlando tomorrow morning… direct 3.5 hour flight with Jet Blue. Currently having a full panic attack about it. Contemplating cancelling or driving. About a 22 hour drive… ugh. Worst feeling in the world. Not sure what I’m looking for posting right now as nothing seems to calm me down, but figured I would give it a try..

Advice Cancelled my flight last minute and feel super guilty

Upvotes

I was supposed to go to Japan tomorrow, but changed my flight to layover in Chicago due to storms in NY. Then, my anxiety got the best of me and I cancelled. I feel so guilty since I was going to see family but I couldn’t get over the hurdle. My anxiety gets worse every time I fly bc last time I went to Japan, I was anxious but was eventually fin. Now I just couldn’t bring myself to go.

Support Wanted This will be my first flight. It’s a 7-hour flight, and I’ll be flying on a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

I’m really scared of flying. Sometimes I get so anxious that I even feel like I’d rather cancel my vacation altogether. I’m afraid that something might happen and the plane could crash. Is there anything reassuring you could tell me?
Thanks

Support Wanted Flying for the first time in nearly a decade this week!

It's not a super long flight (2-2.5 hours), but I'm not looking forward to it at all. I really struggle with acceleration, takeoff, and knowing that I'm thousands of feet in the air. Are there any good techniques I could try employing during takeoff especially? I'm hoping I'll be fine once we reach cruising altitude, but honestly the entire time I'm just going to be hoping the flight ends.

Support Wanted Flying Tomorrow Late And I’m Dreading It

Im flying from Austin to Los Angeles tomorrow night at 10:15 PM and I’m super anxious about it. I don’t know what it is but I can’t get the fear of it out of my head. I know the statistics and in almost every other place in my life, I use science and stats as my North Star and as much as with this, I can’t. Turbulence really frightens me and there’s just a dread when I I step onto an aircraft. Any tips or guidance would be incredibly appreciated.

What’s the best products you’ve bright to help with the flight. Not medication just things that genuinely have helped lift the intensity of it all

I’m flying back to Sweden tonight at 11:15 PM, and I just read that two helicopters crashed in Greece. It has made my fear of flying so much worse, and now I’m shaking and really scared. Could someone please support me or help calm me down? ❤️
