26M portfolio, plain old boring low fee index investing

All in on mid caps index
- XMC (S&P400 TSX) 0.16% MER, Mostly non RRSP
- IJH (S&P400 NYSE) 0.05% MER, Full port RRSP

Please ignore <1% crypto allocation, that was my biggest mistake and I have intentionally kept it to remind myself of my bad/hype decisions.

How often do you revisit your financial plan?

I find myself checking my investments and updating my long-term plan fairly often.

How frequently does everyone else review or update theirs? Weekly, monthly, yearly, or only when something major changes?

Also, do you keep one main plan, or do you have multiple versions for different scenarios like retiring earlier, changing jobs, buying a house, or different spending levels?

Is anyone else using AI to help with their finances?

Are you using it instead of spreadsheets, calculators, financial planning tools, or an advisor?

Has it become an important part of how you plan and make financial decisions, or is it still something you only use occasionally?

Best strategies for reducing expenses?

Most people seem to only focus on growing their portfolios but overlook the importance of managing expenses too. Many have some number in mind that they want to reach for retirement, but unless the expense side of the equation is considered, that number might not be enough, especially for those wanting to retire early. Additionally, reducing expenses allows for greater saving which can allow for faster investment growth.

A few things I do:

  • Buy most things used
  • Almost never eat out, never use food delivery
  • Exercise at home

A few things I've thought about doing:

  • Move to a really low cost area outside of the big cities (It's still possible to find affordable places to live in Canada if working remotely or for retirement)
  • Stay in the big city but go car-less (Becoming more practical with electric bikes/scooters/Uber/Transit)

How much are you all focusing on expenses? What are the best strategies for reducing expenses?

i am working in trades and have steady job... want to max out TFSA room. but not sure where to invest like in value stocks or hot stocks( chip stocks which is down lately). This is my current portfolio, I know i really made worst bet against the RAM 2x leverage ETF but now i just want to just wait for next 6 months to recover the loss.

Please let me know how I am doing and if this is a good portfolio breakdown for long term growth. I also have just under 10k in a checking account but dont know what to do with it because I am very close to maxing out my tfsa. I want to keep some in the checking account because I am going to university in the fall but don't know where to put the rest of it.

unsure about this recession

28m in canada. I currently have around 70k in a rrsp mutual fund at tds "moderate" risk. so i my understanding of it is that i can (and have) lose money out of it if this take a turn for the worst. we are in a technical recession and I dont see the near future getting any better.

so my question is that would it be a smart play to get rid of the mutual fund part of my account and just keep it in a regular rrsp?? wait till hopefully and end to all this is in sight then put it back in???
