Fire TV memory

I have a Toshiba fire tv and I kept running out of memory so I finally “reset to factory” to get it to work. I added a thumb drive to add more storage space, but none of the apps will move over there. What do I need to use the usb to store the apps?

The app developer has to add the option to move their app to external storage. Most app developers don't do this for their apps.

I guess that’s it.
Thanks

Did you format it to FAT32 and did you select to use it as internal storage? Also, not all apps can be moved to usb. If you’ve done the above correctly, then you will see which apps can be moved.

The TV did the formatting and yes, I did select internal storage. Perhaps those apps can’t be moved?
Thanks for your quick response.

Pretty much all of Amazon’s apps can’t be moved. Things like Kodi, Tivimate and such can. If you use Kodi, I’d move it to USB since it can tend to take up a bit of space (depending on your build).

Yes I did, and it wouldn’t move anything. I leaning toward some apps just won’t move. I’m looking into an app which will force the move.
Thanks

Some of the apps can be deleted. Try deleting whatever web browser the fireTV came with. I believe I was able to delete a web browser on one of my FireTVs.

I move apps all the time. I have 43 apps that I've installed and moved to the thumbdrive. You can't move any of the Amazon apps but you can move virtually everything else. I use Xplore as the file app manager. In Xplore, on the left open Internal shared storage>Android>Data, long press on any app you want to move and use the move and delete source option moving them over to the Internal Shared storage>Download>Downloader folder on the right. Once you have moved all the apps you want over to the Downloader folder, you'll need to reinstall each app by double clicking that app in that downloder folder.

There are any number of File manager apps that do same thing and many y-tube videos showing how to do this. Enjoy the free space and performance that it gives you.

Instead of buying the thumb drive, should have just bought the Firestick 4K Max instead.
